This is probably something to do with Disney saying they've done too much too soon, and are reconsidering. He's waiting for confirmation is my guess.

I both love Rian Johnson as a director yet remain squeamish about what he did/can do to Star Wars. With that said, if he were allowed to make films in the Star Wars universe at least partially exempt from the lore of the Skywalker films, he may actually put out a compelling product. Just don't go back to the casino Rian, for the love of god.

Anyone who has seen TLJ and season 8 of Game of Thrones and would rather have D&D make Star Wars movies than Jonhson lives in a reality so far away from the one I live in that I can't even imagine what sort of eldritch creature inhabit it.

Neither one sounds like a series I care to watch. Sad this is the state of things.

I don't think LucasFilm has quite figured out what they're doing beyond the D&D trilogy, so I doubt Rian's is definitively off the table. It's true that they have way more projects than they can reasonably work on though. As far as I'm aware, the film situation is this:

- A series of films (most likely a trilogy) that take place in a different time period. This is the next project planned. The GoT showrunners D&D are writing the first movie and allegedly a treatment for the trilogy. No director has been announced.

- Rian's trilogy. Completely unrelated to any other part of the franchise, a true blank slate. He was going to write and direct the first one but not necessarily the other two. Was seemingly set in stone until recently.

- A KotOR project. Supposedly a script by Laeta Kalogridis (Alita, Avatar sequel) for what could potentially be a trilogy has been written. Nothing was ever formally announced about this.

- Kevin Feige project. This is the most recent one and no details are known about it. Maybe this has to do with the uncertainty about Rian's trilogy?

TLJ was fantastic, I would put my faith in him. But the vocal part who hates the movie is apparently very vocal. The best thing is that nobody they can choose will ever please more than 50% SW fans. It's just impossible.

We lose Rian Johnson and get the D&D Star Wars, darkest timeline and all that.

Of course, it might be better for Johnson anyway. He can make movies without the inane expectations of the Star Wars fandom. Apparently Knives Out is amazing.

I want to buy rian that milk when he gets fired, like he give us after 30 years. It's clear that good shits has started in Lucasfilm.

I didn't like TLJ but I would like to see a movie or a series of movies where RJ has total control, nothing before and he controls what comes after. Same ideas and concepts throughout.

And I would much rather see a RJ trilogy than a D&D one, for sure. RJs body of work is way more interesting.

So that actually isn't even a fake news alt-right Geeks+Gamer bro rumor, i just heard that from the boy Jason Ward from MakingStarWars, (whose sources fairly solid) he said that on a recent podcast. That after whenever Indy 5 actually gets made Kathy would be ready to step down (but still produce movies for LFL) and Feige would come in. Feige would run LucasFilm but will have separate divisions run by other people (which i swear i thought is already how it's done is it not, doesn't Filoni run the animation department?) I actually kinda buy it cause Feige's been spending over like 2 decades on superheroes ( counting some of his pre-MCU days producing Fox-men and other early 00s Marvel movies) and i actually see him ready to move on a bit after literally having his Endgame come to life. I understand he already has amassed many protege producers who help carry the load, so he could have one of em step up to the plate over at Marvel (i believe i heard Nate Moore, who pushed and spearheaded the development of Black Panther, is one of his Feige's top apprentice atm and could be a potential candidate)

It is all just hearsay so far, just to clarify, but i totally see a future where like Kathy goes from LFL to like say be in charge of the main Disney movie studios and Feige moves from Marvel to LFL.

I think Rian is really talented but as someone who did not like TLJ at all, I'm glad he can put his creative efforts into other endeavors. I thought for a while now that he wasn't actually going to get to make the trilogy and this all but confirms it.

I think it's time for Kathy Kennedy to step aside.

Lucasfilm keeps flip flopping...
They need to be more decisive and learn from Marvel Studios

There was one poster here who explained how they'll slowly but surely sweep rian johnson's trilogy under the rug right after TLJ came out. Guy was a prophet.

Would rather him go work on something else but no matter what hope the next trilogy is manned by the same creative team through out.

Solo also bombed due to the reception of TLJ and proximity of its release with TLJ. TFA, while it had issues, had an overwhelmingly positive reception which helped ticket sales for TLJ. We see that it many sequels after the release of a successful movie/game/etc.

They seem to be evaluating all their Star Wars efforts right now so makes sense this would be up in the air. Though I really hope it eventually happens since I love TLJ.
