Are you laughing at the idea of an esports journalist being an actual thing, or the idea of him being an esports journalist?
This is a bad take. It's a billion dollar industry. Of course it's going to have journalists.
I'll never understand this kind of take. It's a job that involves a lot of travel and hours. Sometimes eSports journalists out scandals and scams that target children. Just because some people in the industry are assholes doesn't mean you should scoff at the hard work every single person in the field puts into their jobs.
Can you expand on why you think these sites are problematic?

Can't believe it either. She should have won the award let alone been nominated for it.
I wouldnt say "problematic", because hell, they are websites. If you dont want to read their pieces, dont go there.
I would just say that over the years, I have disagreed with them in many things.
Some reviews and article from Polygon were laughably bad (Doom's review and that Mario Kart pizza chart comes to mind)
That whole thing with badly written sexual articles on Kotaku was disgusting, and enough to make me turn away from the site for good. There's no such thing as "oh that was only one person", because an Editor approved those. So fuck that site.
I only consume Tim Rogers videos from them, because he deserves the clicks.
From what I understand by doing actual investigative journalism.
My point is that Dr D is a well known asshole so I don't see how anyone with half a clue can construe the OP as a positive piece on Richard Lewis.

Yeah, nope, I'll take Waypoint over this dude any day of the week. I trust Polygon and Kotaku as well. Looking forward to seeing if Austin, Patrick, Rob, and the rest of the crew respond. Another reason for me to ignore e-sports. Every time I read about it, it sounds like a dumpster fire filled with assholes.

I don't know how many of you actually care about esports but the level of behind the scenes professionalism used to be really bad before certain people reported on the abuse players had to deal with. Heck Lewis exposed how the audience was being exploited by a gambling company.
I wouldn't have called the people doing the reproting back then journalists but if they are now flipping their extensive connections such that they can peddle rumors as well as shine light on important problems in the esports scene then more power to them.
Even in that clip Lewis calls out 3 specific article he felt lowered the quality of esports journalism so he wasn't naming names and leaving it only at that.

How does one apologize for posting child pornography? and think "Hey this is article worthy of posting on a website" .... And before someone comes in here and tries to debate this, yes underaged digital character count as cp. Apologizing would be firing all those involved with that decision. (or refusal to do business with them ever again)
But I dont want kotaku to go since they do have good articles from time to time. Just that "one article" should never have even passed through someone's mind and the editor should literally have went " WHAT THE LITERAL FUCK IS THIS" and that should have stopped right there.

people with hatchets to bury with kotaku take one of the times they fucked up (and it was definitely a real fuck up) and use it to rinse the whole site and its body of work. on the whole kotaku has been a hugely positive site in terms of investigative journalism. i rarely see these criticisms as good faith tbh.

There's a lot of worse websites than Kotaku/Waypoint/Polygon, so him calling them out might come from what he read or heard on certain forums and YouTube channels. You can definitely find some articles you wholeheartedly disagree with or simply think are poorly made and not associate with that part of the community. However, targeting them in public seems more destructive than anything else. There's better ways to go about this and he went with the most hostile route.
Kotaku is literally the only site that breaks news and the news they break usually involves mistreatment of employees at large publishers or devs. Their work is important, well researched and professional
I just found a video where he alluded to progressives being bad, gamer gate wasn't about harassing women, and he chose to work for brietbart because he truly respects Milo for being contrarian...
