I agree, his hair looks just so different.
I don't understand why they changed him so much. He even looks like his dissidia model and that looking so off.
The others are looking almost the same just better.
Not crazy about his kingdom hearts hair, but I'm killer excited for this game. I hope we get a release date soon, and that it doesn't slide to next year.
This. I wonder if some of the people who complain about how Squall acts actually played FF8. It's a defense mechanism to push people away, and it's also why Rinoa's persistence eventually allowed her to break through it.
i grew up thinking Squall was, like, 28 or something
never cared for his revisions, going all the way back to KH1. but this is just way more fitting (i guess, i'll have to play the remaster to say definitively)

The new model is still quite different from Dissidia's ugly ass design and Squall will still be wearing his original outfit.

Rinoa(from what was shown) is the one who had her face cut out and pasted on from NT and so far it looks bad.
He is specifically overseeing the character models. I don't know that he's doing anything else.

Wait, he actually says "whatever" all the time on the English translation? I always thought there must have been something terribly wrong with the English translation since the Spanish one was very different, this would confirm it. That's not why Squall acts detached. He has a severe abandonment complex and is extremely afraid of losing people he cares about, so he tries to minimize close connections.
Quistis abused her power as teacher to try and seduce Squall. He was right to be disgusted by that.
Squall's personality is a huge localization mistake. He does blow people off, but he has like 9 different ways he does it that fit his actual personality and character better as well as the individual situations. The localization team decided to merge all of them into a single catchphrase of "whatever". Using whatever for every situation makes him come across as an uncaring asshole.

-Squall is a 17-year-old military student who barely touched a GF in his life
-Cloud is a 21-year-old genetically-enhanced infantryman who took out Sephiroth in Nibelheim...
Not even remotely true. The only party member where this is true is Selphie (and Rinoa I guess?).

It's true. Dude forgets to take his only GF to his first mission and his teacher has to remind him how they work like he's unfamiliar with them.
Have you really played the game? The reason all the kids in the orphanage forget they were together is due to the extended use they've made of GFs (the only exception being Selphie). So no, he's not unfamiliar with them by any means.
He has 2 GF as soon as you start the game (Quetzalcoalt and Shiva), you just need to check your computer in the class to get them. The only reason Quistis reminds him how they work is for gameplay purposes, in fact from what I remember you can skip most of the Quistis tutorials with a dialog option.
I swear, this GF thing is the best and worst pun of all final fantasy
Irvine is the only one that didn't have his memory wiped, not Selphie, because Galbadia doesn't use GFs. It's why he chokes on the assassination mission.

Forgot about that. That's true, but Selphie also remembers since she only started using GFs after moving to Balamb from what I remember.

Most people were just asking for a port so giving us something with updated models is more than enough though I do wish they tweaked Squall and Rinoa a bit more to resemble the original designs. Everyone else is wayyyyy more faithful despite also receiving a more anime styled model.
Only the gif which isn't great quality. From the shot his model looks good but not really as notable as the rest. Hopefully HQ photos will show the upgrade.
I still think the model looks good but I swear SE can't model Squalls hair for shit. They have never faithfully modelled his original hairstyle other than the ps2 tech demo.
I'm super happy with this remaster but man..imagine if the style they went for had been the ps2 tech demo models? It would have been the best and most exciting direction they could take the game in.
It happens lol I've remembered dialogue but incorrectly named who said it example the character who reveals Angelo is a female dog. I kept thinking Squall makes a comment but it's actually whoever is left behind.

Modern Squall has a garbage outfit. The hair I'm not really that broken up about.
I like it, but then again I've always been a fan of Yoshitaka Amano.

I mean to be fair one of the main plot devices in the game is that he literally remembers none of what you're talking about so it's pretty hard to latch onto.
Squall not being able to place the source of his trauma doesn't make the effects of it any less real. He still has fears of losing people in his life and no family to support him. He still understands he was abandoned just not the people and why.
I would disagree that he understands he was abandoned. His introspection for most of the game is limited to statements that people can't rely on other people.
