God this show. I read the beginning issues of the excellent Mark Waid Archie run right before this show came out. The first season of the show felt like a slightly darker take on that version of the characters, but it's just been non stop crazy town since early season 2

I enjoyed this episode, though I still feel like Archie choosing to go to jail is the stupidest thing ever. I hope that stinger isn't a fake out, I want my Sabrina crossover

Well, that was exactly what I was looking for from the season opener; weird twisted genre tribute (beach party homage beside the burned out Blossom mansion), gorgeous over the top giallo inspired cinematography and lighting and absolutely bonkers weird shit. Between that True Detective/Wicker Man/Dark Dungeons Gargoyle King shit and Betty's Lynchian hallucination I am HERE FOR IT. The only thing I worry about is what feels like an inevitable Shawshank Redemption riff.

Do I have to watch the rest of Season 2 in order to understand what's happening in this season opener?

Because dear god, Season 2 went off the rails...

Just watched. Stray thoughts:

Cheryl with the bow will never get old.

Whatever the Gargoyle King shakes out to be is hopefully handled better than the Black Hood was. If it's not setting up a tie in with Sabrina, my crackpot guess is that Jellybean Jones is behind it all.

Only Archie can snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory like that. What an idiot.

Hiram continually baffles me with his decisions. Why admit everything?

WTF at the ending. Probably just a drug induced hallucination, but still

This show is so dumb, but yet it's so entertaining

I would really love it if they set the flying baby thing up to SEEM like it's just a drug-induced hallucination, but then as the season goes on more and more supernatural shit keeps happening and Betty realizes that she was right all along.

That would be the best shit ever. Fingers crossed they double down on the weird. I wanna see Red Ranger Cheryl vs Demon Gargoyle in the finale!

I feel like a Sabrina crossover isn't going to happen... Isn't it set in the 60s?

THE SERPENT QUEEN IS THE WARRIOR QUEEN

Great, crazy premiere, just the way I like it. That ending tho, that surely was something....

Also what's up with the title? Isn't it Dark Betty, not Black Betty lol

Cheryl is ridiculously attractive, but somehow it feels wrong.

Cuz it is

Hiram Lodge is literally the dumbest gangster of all time. Framing someone who is actually guilty of dozens of crimes for the one crime he actually didn't commit, then admitting to your already-rebellious daughter that you did it SOLELY to fuck with her. It's like he's trying to get himself iced.

Lmfao

I'm just glad the trial's done, and EARLY in the season. How torturous would it be if we spent the entire first half of the season building up to Archie taking the deal and going to jail only to get out a few weeks later?

*remembers the Flash's trial, shudders

Archie really wasted everyone's time standing up there and yelling that he's guilty when he didn't pull the trigger. 2 years in juvie for what? SMH.

Yea what the fuck was that about, why is this kid so dumb, punish yourself some other way, jesus

I said it before in this thread but if you notice, they drop the babies then it cuts to them floating. Betty then has the seizure and it cuts back to mom and sister....and they aren't holding the babies. This is AFTER Betty is already collapsing, which means we're not seeing it through her perspective. Which means either: they actually dropped the babies in the fire, or the babies are ACTUALLY floating.

If this isn't true then their editing fucked up.

God I hope you're right. It would make me so happy if they finally embrace the weird full-stop.

I'd be ok with that, honestly. Just dive deep into insanity, because it stopped being believable as a show about teens in high school a long, long time ago

It really feels like they need to do that. If it goes too far, they can always reveal that everything that happened took place inside a novel Jughead's been writing.

Just watched the episode.
Ending was good...but everything before that was rough to watch even for a CW show...they really aren't pretending anymore what the show is about.LOL.

I definitely hope they go full supernatural this season. They've been flirting with the idea since the series inception

Just do it! Make our dreams come true

The episode in season 2 where they
break Cheryl out of the convent
was hilarious. Veronica's outfit made no sense.

That's actually one of the examples that came to mind haha

I mean, hell, look at Cheryl's first appearance in the premiere lol

EDIT: Or the whole mess that is Dark Betty

I guess Archie's their manservice bread and butter, guess no one is chomping at the bit to see shirtless Cole Sprouse, lol.

That's why they keep Kevin around clearly

Veronica is clearly the kind of girl who has been to NYCC with her own self-made cosplay of an original character she made up and hired a Marvel artist to draw for her.

Ah, this is starting up again.

The Carrie musical episode last season was a bit of a breaking point for me, but I think I'll give it another shot.

I will never understand why they chose to do a musical episode and then set it around a musical that bombed, hard, on Broadway. There had to be another choice they could've picked.
