The Killing Joke is one of the more well known, revered and popular Batman stories around and it dives into Jokers origin story so probably not.
Oh, that's right. But still, that just dealt with his pregnant wife, right? I did a quick search after my post and it looks like the only mention about his parents was one of the ever-changing stories about how he got his scars. Is that correct?

Admittedly I haven't watched any movies Robert Deniro has been in lately, but I still thought he was considered a pretty good/great actor?
According to this thread, apparently not anymore lol

He's starred in a lot of crap. I'd like to say recently, but it's been quite a while since Jackie Brown.
Or Heat if you don't care for Jackie Brown.

You know y'all are just waiting to see Joker put on the red hood get-up and get dumped in a vat of chemicals. That's probably how the movie will end.

This is just weird casting in general. Like, Deniro... probably could've played a decent talk show host in the 90s, but even then it would've been pretty far out of his wheelhouse. And now it's 2018.

I don't know, he does he realize he doesn't need to do literally anything with Scorsese's name somewhere on it, right?

part of me is..Why are they making a damn joker movie, hes the one origin story I don't need or want. But on the other hand, they are getting star power to a damn joker movie. I never would have guessed 5-6 years ago the actors they got would want to do a comic book movie let alone one focused all on the joker. What a time to be alive.

So how does this tie into the other joker currently in the DCeu? I don't pay attention to the comics, so never knew about more than one joker

They going full Wolverine with Joker?

X-men Origins: Wolverine = Batman Origins: Joker
And now
Logan = Old man Joker.

Joaquin is great, DeNiro could be good, I'm looking forward to this. I don't care about ultimate accuracy of the mythos or being tied to any specific origin story, I'll give it a shot and if it's a good movie I'll be happy.

So De Niro's going to play an older, more successful version of himself from King of Comedy?

DeNiro hasn't been able to say no to a script for more than a decade, so his casting wouldn't be indicative of quality. I love Phoenix, but Phillips is so mediocre.

I've been saying it for a while now: Something being connected to a larger universe does not make it better.

I'm in for this. Way better than a Leto joker movie, even if I did moderately enjoy his performance in what little he had in Suicide Squad.

When they got Scorsese and DeNiro on board (though I dont think Marty has anything to do with this aside from offer some clout) I cant help but think they gonna look to king of comedy for inspiration

The dude is even playing a talk show host

Anyways I got little faith in the director but this cast is absolute flames and the prospect of having Joaquin play such a scenery chewing role like joker is hype enough

Scorcese is no longer attached. So he's doing this for the same reason Pheonix is doing this. They like they pitch.

He's been in a lot of trash for sure, but from the recent I've seen he was good in Silver Linings Playbook (I hate the movie), Being Flynn and surprisingly really sweet and sympathetic in the Intern. Which Tarantino hyped up a lot that year, especially De Niro who he thought was Oscar nom worthy. Intern was also at the TOP 10 movies for Hideo Kojima in 2015, liked it more than Straight Outta Compton and Force Awakens! I haven't seen Wizard of Lies yet. While his heydays are behind him, he is still Robert De Niro and I'm really looking forward to the Irishman and this shit right here.
