Likely to be another DIY song, right?

That'd put the pass at 1 for 4 for legit stems so far.

Hair Metal challenge? Not many songs would be eligible which means it's not that unlikely to happen!

What's with the sudden Skid Row love?

I assume they've been pretty heavily requested over the years, and now with them not worrying about releasing tracks without masters, it was only a matter of time. At least we know these were stemless or nothing ever due to legit damaged/destroyed masters, iirc. Not a fan of them spreading them so thin, but that all seems to be the state of Harmonix with DLC now.

Doubt that, I think they most likely held the second Skid Row song until now just to have a Hair Metal themed challenge week with the Whitesnake rewind alongside it. Plus it sticks with the current pattern of only having multiple songs from an artist in a week if it's a 3-pack.

Well obviously they held the song off for a challenge, doesn't mean that they didn't purposely spread out both Skid Row tracks.

Oh well, that's just how RB dlc is nowadays.

Still, we did get five other decent songs for free, so we've had worse weeks, even if 20% of the season pass is Skid Row (For those that don't like Skid Row).

More entitlement fixes for SIEE owners, at least. Sex Machine is up, with the whole pack to follow. It's still not New Fang or Walk Like an Egyptian. But progress is happening at a steady rate! So it's not all bad.

Some interesting songs over the holidays, I will pick up a bunch once I play again. Still hoping that they do more songs I specifically want - if they're going to do Natalie Imbruglia they're dipping pretty deep into pop already.

Then again that's what they were doing before they ended RB3...

Doubling down on the Skid Row, I see.
Excellent. I've been hoping for I Remember You.

On the matter of Skid Row, I was looking at Rocksmith DLC and noticed they had a 5 pack some time ago!

Skid Row Pack
I Remember You
Slave to the Grind
Youth Gone Wild
18 And Life
Monkey Business

So I reckon our chances of getting "Youth Gone Wild" might be fairly high in the future. Here's hoping!

Oh, and here's this week's first playthrough scores, stem confirmations and impressions for this week's Skid Row single and RB3 Rewind.

"Here I Go Again" - Whitesnake - [Guitar: Tier 5 | Drums: Tier 2 | Vocals: Tier 4 | Bass: Tier 1]
Expert Guitar: 117,718 | 100% Notes Hit (523/523) Full Combo | Gold Stars
Expert Bass: 92,478 | 100% Notes Hit (430/430) Full Combo | Gold Stars

"I Remember You" - Skid Row
- [Guitar: Tier 4 | Drums: Tier 3 | Vocals: Tier 5 | Bass: Tier 3]
Expert Guitar: 195,092 | 100% Notes Hit (892/892) Full Combo | Gold Stars
Expert Bass: 143,882 | 100% Notes Hit (630/630) Full Combo | Gold Stars

Stem Confirmations: "Here I Go Again" is an RB3 export so you can bet your arse that the song has stems. Much like last years Skid Row release "I Remember You" sadly doesn't have stems as anyone who's done research on the self-titled album knows the master tracks are unusable, in fact they don't even exist any more. A shame but totally expected to be honest.

DLC Impressions: "Here I Go Again" is easily one of the most overtiered guitar songs in the entire game, but it's still got a fun chart. While most of the song is easily managable alt-strumming and bursts of chords with sizable spaces in between it does have a rad as fuck solo with a fair bit of fretboard sweeping towards the end that could easily throw off players who aren't prepared for it! Bass is pretty pedestrian, mostly just plodding single note strumming that really doesn't switch up throughout. It's a party classic though and essential for any players who never acquired the RB3 export!

"I Remember You" is quite frankly one of the best guitar charts in the entire game. The first half of the song is constant chord and single note strings with a shitload of gentle and faster hammer-on snaking up and down the fretboard. It's constantly changing up and never really repeats itself, it's fucking fantastic, then the second half of the song consists of two huge-ass solos with a lot of crazy sweeping up and down the guitar neck with plenty of more relaxed parts to help break up the frantic pace, a fantastic combination of challenge and fun! Essential for guitarists, buy it. Bass is pretty fucking good for a tier 3 as well, the first half is a much more gentle and laid back affair with some gentle 3-4 note hammer-on sweeps in between bouncy single note strumming, but when the first solo hits you're ambushed by a pretty interesting anchor riff that requires you to hold down the green fret while hitting hammer-ons back and forth and some action on the lower end that requires you to hit some tight 1-note hammer-ons. After that it's long note snaking all over the place, one of the best bass charts I've played in a while to be honest. Buy this song peeps!

HEADS UP TO XBOX ONE OWNERS: People who previously bought "Runnin' Wild", "I Don't Like You" and "Dance Epidemic" can redownload them now from the Ready To Install section of the game management page. Oh and "Visions" as well.

EDIT: Reports about "Dance Epidemic" seem a bit conflicted, I can download it but others can't!

I Remember You also seems to feature new DIY strategy from Harmonix: It appears they didn't try to make vocals an actual filtered DIY stem so the vocals volume control doesn't do anything at all to the vocals, nor the rest of the song. For those just joining us, usually DIY stems are accomplished by filtering by frequency and other tricks, so for example they'll filter everything out but bass frequencies and then make that the bass stem, which is why when you miss on bass on DIY songs it takes all of the bass out of the vocals and drum sounds. So they'll usually try to filter the vocals range and make that the vocals stem, meaning when you turn down vocals in stemless songs you'll sometimes hit the other instruments, or the vocals will lower a bit but not much.

In this one it doesn't do anything at all. Appears they just left vocals in the general mix (everything but what you're playing).

Personally if they're gonna do stemless I'd prefer if the song just played normally, so this is an improvement for me.

Anyone happen to know if I can buy the Rock Band 10th Anniversary songs? I apparently don't have them in my library, and can't find them to download or buy which sucks as they're part of the weekly challenge lately.

If you're an XB1 user then they're here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/p/rock-band-10th-anniversary-pack/bzfzjz4mwpz5 or failing that check in-game.

If you're on PS4 I'm not sure. Just check the in-game store. It's free on both, no purchase required.

I'll check - I've been searching for the songs themselves, perhaps I need to search for "anniversary". Thanks

Oof

Maybe the spotlight pass song will be fun to play at least? Hopefully the challenge for the week covers more than just country, because I can count all the country songs I own on one hand.

I'm super glad that Body Like a Back Road isn't the spotlight song. I don't know the Shania Twain song, but it can't be worse than that one.

They made the right choice between those three for the spotlight pass. Country weeks are always rough weeks for me but the Shania song ain't too bad, just poppy enough to circumvent my usual distaste for the genre.

But hey, it was all but a guarantee once we found out that season 4 was genres themed that we were getting a country week, so with that out of the way already we have 5 more other genre songs to look forward to.

Pop, Rock, Alternative, Punk and Rap as the rest of the pass maybe? A lot of the other genres have a really small selection of songs like Blues and Reggae/Ska so I'd imagine those will get lumped in with something else if at all.

Well, I guess they have to release a pack, we can hardly have a Country song rewind after all, and evidently it sells given how we're somehow on pack 10. At least they picked a song that I don't dislike for the spotlight. Might even be fun on guitar, too.

That said, bring on next week. Make it modern rock and give us Make It Wit Chu. Then make it Classic Rock and give us Hocus Pocus.

Huh, I actually know that Shania Twain song. Turns out she had another Dutch hit apart from Man! I Feel Like a Woman.

Well looks like I'm not gonna be much help on this challenge. I hate country music, and no, Shania Twain is not a national treasure.

Country music sucks. All it does is take precious air space away from shock DJ's, whose cruelty and profanity amuse us all.

Fingers crossed we get a Rap/Hip-Hop week and get It's Tricky as DLC.

Outkast, Sean Paul, Childish Gambino, Run-DMC and A Tribe Called Quest all have new songs in Dropmix. I don't expect to see a 5 pack but that would be fantastic, I just hope they all make it over to Rock Band at some point, especially "Temperature"

Okay dicks and cunts, here's the lowdown on this week's Country song pack!

"That Don't Impress Me Much" - Shania Twain
[Guitar: Tier 2 | Drums: Tier 0 | Vocals: Tier 3 | Bass: Tier 1]
Expert Guitar: 140,875 | 100% Notes Hit (558/558) Full Combo | Gold Stars
Expert Bass: 73,513 | 100% Notes Hit (300/300) Full Combo | Gold Stars

"Burnin' It Down" – Jason Aldean - [Guitar: Tier 1 | Drums: Tier 2 | Vocals: Tier 2 | Bass: Tier 2]
Expert Guitar: 90,622 | 100% Notes Hit (543/543) Full Combo | Gold Stars
Expert Bass: 96,925 | 100% Notes Hit (397/397) Full Combo | Gold Stars

"Body Like A Back Road " - Sam Hunt - [Guitar: Tier 1 | Drums: Tier 0 | Vocals: Tier 2 | Bass: Tier 0]
Expert Guitar: 82,756 | 100% Notes Hit (318/318) Full Combo | Gold Stars
Expert Bass: 27,018 | 100% Notes Hit (096/096) Full Combo | Gold Stars

Stem Confirmations: "That Don't Impress Me Much" is a DIY job sadly but it's one of the less egregious ones in recent months. "Body Like A Back Road" is legit, no muffling other other tracks or overall track degradation when missing notes on your own instrument. "Burnin' It Down" also has the original master tracks as well so that makes it 2/3 for the pack this week. Not too shabby I guess!

DLC Impressions: "That Don't Impress Me Much" is an absolute blast on guitar for a tier 2 chart. There's a great mix of 2-3 note chord strumming, slow and fast hammer-on movement and a kick-ass guitar solo that'll have your fingers dancing up and down the fretboard. Excellent chart and well worth the money for guitarists. Bass is okay, it's mostly just steady sustained note strum with some brief movement back and forth across the fretboard every now and then, although there is a rapid 5 note hammer-on to hit at one point, overall okay, but nothing outstanding on bass.

"Burnin' It Down" is pretty decent for a tier 1 guitar chart! There's a nice little "riff" that has you anchoring down the red fret while using your other fingers to hop back and forth between yellow blue and orange frets, followed by some gentle movement up and down the guitar neck later and some sustains thrown in, rinse and repeat. Not bad. This track has the highest tier bass this week and it's actually good despite a slow start at the beginning. A lot of steady fret movement up and down the neck with a nice mix of strummed notes, hammer-ons and sustains and it's consistent almost all the way through. Pretty nice!

"Body Like A Back Road" is actually pretty fun on guitar! It starts off with some short hammer-on bursts before jumping into the meat of the song which is some nice laid-back switching up between single notes, chords and three note chords. There's even a pretty rad section that has you hitting bursts of alt-strumming and three note chord hammer-ons too. Overall a solid chart for such a low difficulty. Genuinely surprised. Boring as fuck on bass though, hope you like slowly placed single note sustains because that's what you're getting for the entire song, oh except for GASP! that one time you get to hit ONE three note hammer-on! Whoooo….

Best Guitar Song: "That Don't Impress Me Much"
Best Bass Song: "Burnin' It Down"

On the subject of DLC releases, SIEE are going through their usual early year period of actually doing shit. Another week, another bunch of songs working! Here's the current list from this week:

February Heartache Duets - 7 songs
Weezer Pack 02 - 3 songs
Rock Band 3 Pre-Order Pack - 3 songs
Alice Cooper - Vengeance is Mine
Alice in Chains - We Die Young
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Weapon of Choice*
Black Tide - Warriors of Time
Bullet For My Valentine - Waking the Demon
Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call
Motley Crue - Same Ol' Situation
The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian
The Jam - Town Called Malice
The New Pornographers - Use It
Them Crooked Vultures - New Fang

I've been waiting for New Fang for yeeeeeeeears. It wasn't even delisted. It just didn't work. Weapon of Choice seems to be a bit iffy at the moment, might not work, but the rest are all above board. Nearly there!

Bloody hell, it's expensive to find & get a new band kit. :(

How does the PDP hardware compare?
Do the RB4 Pro cymbals work with older drum kits?
