Well radio is dead. The largest audience for radio today is talk radio. I think people, especially older generations, tend to hear what plays on the radio and believes that is what's popular with today's youth, but young folks simply don't listen to radio at all. Plus iHeartMedia, which owns like 90% of radio stations in the US is about to go belly up with almost a billion dollars in debt. It's a dead medium.
Except that doesn't really explain why the pop and rap channels are doing just fine in this market. Fucking Kiss 108 is never going to die, ugh.
(And iheart/clearchannel dug their own grave and fell into the venture capitalist death trap.)

I'm not sure why people keep saying rock is dead. Tons of amazing, new artists out there. I guess no one listens to modern rock or alt rock radio anymore?
It's not cool anymore, and it probably won't be again. The kids who would have been in a rock band twenty years ago are making music on their computers today.

While it's not like it was in the 60`s or 70's, there's still some good shit out there like Halestorm, Fozzy and Greta Van Fleet for example.

There hasn't been a good rock surge or scene since The Strokes, Interpol, and The White Stripes back in the early 2000's.

I see what you did there op.

Their first album was called rock is dead just in case it was a coincidence.

What about Cage the Elephant? I feel like they're decent but it seems like no ever talks about them despite being somewhat big.

I'm not a fan of Metallica. They're like Queen to me: overwrought, overcomplicated and nowhere near dirty enough for my tastes.
Kill 'em All might be more up your alley than AJFA, though.

If not, then Venom and early Sodom are the bands for you, assuming you aren't already a fan. ^^

I'm gonna wait until their first full album until I pass judgement.

I really liked their EP despite it basically sounding like Led Zeppelin I.
They already released their first LP. Honestly I dont think this band will be much more than a flash in the pan. The future of rock isnt going back and retreading well trodden ground.

I dont think theyre bad. Pure technical ability of being able to do what they do is impressive. But thats about where my interest begins and ends.

King Gizzard is the future.

I don't think the genre is dead at all, but I also enjoy some of the more mainstream stuff that comes out. Mad hyped for the new Shinedown record, for example.

My local station tends to play a good mix of old and new stuff, so it's hard for me to think it's dead when there's always something on the radio. I don't always like it, but it's there.

I feel like those bands rested on their laurels. They got hot and failed to innovate/re-invent themselves or their sounds. Instead of Nirvanas, we got a bunch of Pearl Jams.

But then again, I feel like I'm being a little unfair.

Nirvana wasn't that original. Just an iteration on the Pixies, Husker Du and the Replacements. Nirvana was just the first of that kind to get massively popular.

New albums from Bullet For My Valentine, Breaking Benjamin, Halestorm, Ghost, In This Moment, From Ashes To New, A Perfect Circle, Asking Alexandria, Starset and many others just this year. Rock is in a great spot. Also like Greta Van Fleet.

Have you guys heard of Puddle of Mudd? If we are talking about rock groups that are on the verge of breaking out you should check them.

King Tuff's older stuff is very old school psychadelic rock. Was dead and his self title are great albums (though his newer stuff is just okay in my opinion).

Ah, it's just Metallica in general. These old ears find them a bit nonsense. YAY-YAH!

I had a listen to both and they definitely got the dirt!

All my mates growing up were big into it, but I find most Metal - I dunno - a little cheesy? Is that sacrilege?

When it comes to the heavy stuff, I'm more of a fan of this sort of thing or this:

Rock is always dead, thats the whole point. Its the idea that it cant never be fullfilled, always thirsty, always hungry.

Rock as being a pillar of music is dead. When was the last big rock band? That's why all these old rock bands still fill stadiums.

Some of the rock bands I dig are:

PUP -- Punk / Emo and 100% energy

Hop Along -- A bit like if Nirvana and Joanna Newsom had a baby.

Their / They're / There (Though who knows if they'll ever get an full length out--the three members are all in different bands).

The hipsters that are saving the genre.

lol Deafheaven rules but Hipster Black Metal ain't saving rock! When it comes to straight up Rock bands I'm not sure if there's anything that touches the glory days of the early/mid 90s but there are some great bands out there

I went to a sold out Russian Circles show a few weeks back and just being there made me so fucking happy. To see a sold out show for an instrumental rock/metal band put the biggest smile on my face. They absolutely killed it that night.

I'm liking this new Perfect Circle album too. Some songs on here totally kick ass
