Yeah, I don't know. A lot of clowns like to recontextualise progressive voices in the industry and community as people who hate games and wish to destroy your favourites. If you tell people ERA is just a bunch of Jack Thompson outsiders who want to come and take our video games away, it's not hard to get support from people who assume you're not arguing in bad faith. A large amount of the resentment of old NeoGAF/ResetERA stems from the bitterness over getting banned too. That and trying to come up with reasons that absolves them of the actual reasons why they got banned.

That ResetEra hates all white people, that they support murdering white babies as retribution, that they are paranoid and view everyone as enemies, that they are a suicide cult where people fuel each other's depression, etc. These are all things I've seen people say to describe Era.
Wonder where people pick up these things...

"political" pun apart... attract working on every pokemon is a bit overkill... you could just spam it and be almost invencible as your enemies wouldnt act most of the time! right now is a risky move to have. (although is the same with many moves that have lower accuracy, a part of the pokemon comunity just want to avoid "chances" as much as they can)

Lmao at "he didn't understand the language he was using"

Who's buyin' that shit?
Tbh, if he did understand the language he was using, then that rejection notice comes off more as intentional website sabotage than anything else. Like if he's conscious of what he's saying, then he'd almost have to know that he's inviting a shitstorm.

So he either really didn't know or think about what he was saying, didn't think the uploader would fight back, or is having a laugh at the website's expense.

Real talk, as much as this would be fun in single player, wouldn't this make it incredibly overpowered for competitive play?
I mean, yeah, but I doubt anyone's going out of their way to make a competitive ladder for this mod.

It's a completely optional hack for an 18-year-old game. Framing this as a mechanics argument is silly. Let people play games how they want.

im only stating the obvious XD. nobody is forbiding anyone to play as they see fit. its the same as using cheat codes, you want to? use it... but the "political" part taking the spotlight is funny though.
i REALLY doubt all those connotations would be even on the table when thinking about moves, so i dont know why they should be a reason on deciding on them (on one way or the other)

Who looks at that move in pokemon and thinks 'this must apply to all genders of these little monsters!'. Like cool, but why even spend your time making that as a romhack.

Then again, even more surprising is somebody turning said mod away for being too 'political' lmao. They played themselves there.

Why the fuck do people (romhacking's response in the OP in this case, but often seen elsewhere) keep referring to this stuff as "american politics?" Who gives a shit about the US? Homophobia and bigotry is global. Fucking weasels.

Guess it was addressed later on but even thinking along those lines to begin with makes no sense to me.

This whole "this must be a US thing because we enlightened Europeans have long since evolved beyond such things as racism and gender discrimination" is basically a meme at this point. A really shitty one.

It is if you see it as an evil agenda to turn your son GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! [spooky music]
Pokemon mods turning everyone gay! These are truly the end times!

Let's all be thankful that romhacking can see the evil agenda before we can and save us from all the gayness, BAN POKEMON!

It's pretty simple. You play the game, there's a move named "Attract" that makes opponents of the opposite gender infatuated with you. You then go "hey, wait a minute, isn't it dumb that creatures of the same gender apparently can't be attracted to one another?" and then you make a mod to change it. Not particularly far-fetched.

What you're really asking is "why does that move even exist in the games to begin with?". Removing the gender gate isn't the dumb part.

Here's what they had to say for their apology statement on Discord.

Again, not quite the norm for them and they are sorry. Doesn't look like it'll be repeated again.
Seems like they genuinely know it's wrong, but at the same time don't want to fire the person responsible. Probably because they're friends or something.

They seem quite eager to go "no, no, no, he didn't mean it!" Rather than giving a boilerplate "this is not our values" response.

Why are they using the term if they don't hang around in places where it's used?
That's not what is written there:

"He doesn't hang out in the sections of the Internet where it is used, either sarcastically or for its intended purpose of being a hateful term."

That message doesn't say "he doesn't know the term." (as you imply)

That messages instead says "he doesn't know the term is ALSO loaded with other meanings".

Homosexual Behavior in this context is same sex coupling. Again this doesn't mean some dogs are gay. Dog's don't have sexual preference they mate when possible. Dogs hump stuffed toys does that mean they are Paraphiliacs? Dogs use mounting to show dominance, if you took your gay male dog to have sex with a female dog during a breeding event it wouldn't declare that it isn't into female dogs

Attaching human constructs of sexuality to animals is stupid. They treat neither sexual preference or sex with the reverence humans do.

Are they employed? I mean, this was dumb, but the site has apologized and the policies have theoretically shifted. I don't necessarily see the need to go nuclear. At least not yet. It will likely come.

Oh I'm not saying fire him, just that I've seen this sort of behaviour before. When someone the boss likes does something really bad that requires at least some sort of discipline they start trying to spin round different ways in which it was actually a misunderstanding or something.

It seems to me like they're trying to not upset the employee who sent the rejection.

What other meanings does the term have? How (and where) is the term used in a way that is not sarcastic or hateful?

The usage of SJW is pretty telling. I hope people upload more mods that upset the heteronormativity that is prevalent in all games.

Is there homosexuality in Pokémon?
Brock (or Takeshi rather) said in the Japanese version of the anime once that it’s impossible for Pokémon to be attracted to a Pokémon of the same gender (in the context of Pikachu and Piplup, who are both male spending an episode infatuated with each other).

What a mess. Romhacking.net needs to make this right. And by right, host that mod and give it some promotion.

Wasn't the move in Gold/Silver glitched and only attracted the same gender?
That was the Love Ball, Attract worked as they intended it to. Personally I think the Love Ball should be changed to only work with the Pokemon's Egg Group or Daycare compatibility but that has some room for technical and balance issues.

Can't say i'm surprised...
Huh, this person has me blocked on Twitter. Can’t say he’d regularly see my profile. How?

And yeah I was watching a video about it the other, DYKG did one about how Attract only ever worked on the same gender, it was always gay. (But maybe it was fixed in Crystal? Idk)

Edit: nvm it was the love ball.

To be fair, thanks to the fan disassembly this sort of thing would take 5 minutes to do if you're a bit familiar with the source.
