ROTS vs TLJ

Those places were full of PT bashing before the ST came out.
Well.... yeah. That's what I'm saying. Things have changed a bit.
A bit. Not a lot.
People who were kids when the PT came out have nostalgia for them. Add those folks to the 50% of Star Wars fans that think TLJ is the worst thing that ever happened to the franchise and the bevy of internet memes, suddenly the PT is more popular than it was before.
But people who were teens and older when the PT came out aren't really budging. They remember what they saw and it's not attached to fuzzy childhood memories.
Revenge of the Sith is a fun movie. The novel explains so much more so much but it's a novel so it doesn't count.
I saw Revenge of the Sith 4 times in the theater.
I saw The Last Jedi more. And I enjoyed it more. I love, rewatching scenes from the the Last Jedi a lot more than anything from ROTS.

Also consider that the PT spawned a ton of long running and successful secondary media. I'd imagine for many kids, they'd have seen something like Clone Wars before seeing the
I didn't think we were likely to get a 50/50 split. Revenge of the Sith relies on someone basically having an outsized from the norm appreciation for dramatic structure or loving B movies. A +1/3 showing on Era is pretty good.

To this day, I still take about how Yoda v Palpatine, from the novel. That Yoda realized that he is the paragon of the light. And then problem with that is that the Light casts a large shadow.
And hey, that explains a lot in the sequel trilogy.
The prequels are badly constructed films, but at least have interesting world-building and lore. The events they tell are interesting (in theory) and it really makes the galaxy feel big. It's overambitious and falls flat because of it.
The sequels are the opposite, they are well constructed films.... that do nothing with the source material except reset the state of the universe by essentially undoing the actions of the OT. It's incredibly safe and falls flat because of it.

The thing that gets me is that the ST setting is litterally just aore poorly executed version of the OT setting. There's a reason as to why the most popular secondary media is mainly PT and OT.
Or it's ST content that makes use of EU classics
Or there's no functional difference had it taken place in the OT as oppose to the ST.
The ST as a setting just blows.

This whole scene. People literally groaned in my theatre.

Look at these nuggets of potential, squandered by horrendous execution.He's also been told all his life that he's the chosen one so he already has an immediate buy in to messianic leaders that'll fix everything.
Padme asks if he's talking about himself and Anakin denies it but he totally is thinking he'll be right for the job eventually.
TLJ, as someone mentioned, has far higher highs and for me, it's frustrating how it can't quite get the rest of the movie across the finish line. i feel like one more script revision would have really gone a long way. It's frustrating to me just how close TLJ is to greatness.
On the ROTS side, we had Lucas actually try rewriting scenes after principle photography without re-shooting. The Anakin turn sequence is famous for this. (i'm sort of curious to see what that scene looked like before it was reconstructed. The Senate clearly ends up with Anakin's saber at some point during his fight with Mace. )

Revenge of the Sith is a terrible fucking movie, loaded with bad acting, even from usually good actors. And way too much shit CGI and green screen. I found Last Jedi boring, but it is still better than the trash that is Revenge of the Sith.
