Not sure how accurate but came across this on Xbox Reddit. Quotes a 'source within EA', but statements don't seem to be too implausible to be real.

That first statement seems idiotic and a fantasy for people to hate the game even more. Don't believe it for a sec.

Also 3.7 million sounds awful.

EA Access in less than 6 months? All that's happened with Anthem and that still would surprise me.

I would love for it to hit EA access but I don't see that happening till maybe end of the year. It only came out a couple months ago.

Looks fake but I would believe it to be true that Bioware would blame the players because of course they would.

I take it this Jesse figure is the subreddit's community manager? Reminds me of poor Forge over at Battlefront II if so. From the outside looking in, it seems like no one high enough up at EA to "count" on this matter ever thinks highly at all of the importance of good communication. These CMs have their hands tied behind their backs but take so much flak.

3.7 million copies sounds great for like...I don't know...Ace Combat 7 which is a AAA game that didn't get much marketing before release (and it sold well going by the Bandai Namco fiscal year thread). For a game like Anthem which expected to sell 6 million copies, that's a major underperformance.

This rumor sounds believable to me.

That's like rule #1 for creating a believable fake leak.
Let's just say that Anthem status right now at least make the rumor plausible.
Well EA obviously need more players to try Anthem and why not do that with doing it on EA Access? Try Anthem for 1 month at $5 or buy the game at the current prices of at least $30-$40? If more people try it and invest in the game they can recoup some of the costs with MTX's, since the game obviously underperformed for EA.

It will need to hit the Vault to have any chance of legs.

"EA is still very committed to the game because "it fills a gaping hole in our offerings".

The game has been out for a mere 3 months...

Anthem disappointed, Div 2 disappointed, Apex is dying.

What are people playing then? Still Minecraft and Fortnite?

Adding to that, the game is GaaS. Buying the game is just the beginning. If you throw your game "for free" in EA Access, it allows for more players to get those juicy microtransactions. And if they decide to turn the game around and make it worthwhile, they can sell future DLC to the EA Access base. I think right now, there are little incentive for people not on the game to buy it (pretty much like Destiny/D2 was before TTK/Forsaken).

Well, it's possible. The game is certainly not selling like hotcakes, and it's already getting heavily discounted. Plus, its dwindling player base is making it difficult to find matches, so it's all downhill from here unless they do something.

I wouldn't play Anthem for free to be quite honest. It's seriously hard to sell a game like that in the state it's in to anyone.
