Just crazy and very premature. Virus is already slowing down in China. Still have 3 months. Could've made a decision in late April early May.

I'm not surprised, but E3 getting canceled during a console launch year is pretty devastating to its future. Once companies realize it's no longer necessary, then what's the point?

This could very well be the day E3 actually dies. Publishers will move to an online format, and if it's a success while they can save the costs from E3 the show is basically dead and buried.

even before the coronavirus there was never really any need for these huge hardware/gaming conventions...you can easily hype up products using a YouTube video or press release...in fact just release the product with very little hype and you'll still get the same amount of sales...From Soft should just release Elden Ring next month as a gift :D

Will everyone just do a "direct"? Around the same time as E3? Whenever they feel like it?

But E3 being cancelled this year was only a matter of time.

Obviously this is terrible news in terms of the severity of the pandemic and health concerns and everything.

But also? Maybe E3 will die for good and that'd be kinda cool at this point

Meh we'll still get a Nintendo Direct around then, and that's the only thing of worth from E3 anyway. Plus anything that was going to be announced will still be announced.

Stage shows are horrendous and cringy. Cancel E3 every year.

Hmm maybe postponed not canceled based on Patrick's tweet?

Just crazy and very premature. Virus is already slowing down in China. Still have 3 months. Could've made a decision in late April early May.

There were seventy cases coming from one conference in Boston announced just today. It's not premature at all. It is a public health hazard and video games are not more important.

Cases have slowed down in China but haven't come to complete stop just yet and things are picking up in other countries. If you want to be conservative, you are looking at maybe early May before it's really under control world wide. Even then, people will be slow to return to normalcy for many months after that.

Heads-up, I just heard from several people I know within the industry E3 cancellation was officially emailed out to a lot of developers/publishers. The official announcement should be in the next 24 hours.

But if there was any doubt, it seems to be real.

We had a good run E3. You had some great years, some down years, and plenty of embarrassing years.

Now let's get on to planning the real event, "Get Everyone in Town So Jeff Gerstmann Can Interview Them" for it's inaugural year.
