is there a set standard on what a game can be priced at that corresponds to how old it is? I'd like to know so I too can shitpost with "LOL $50 for an PSX game?"

It's holy shit $50 when the remasters of the other two PS1 games were priced at half that on PSN when they came out. And why FFVIII and not either of the other two? Or are they coming too sometime down the line?

The physical versions were popping up since the first announcement. Will be interesting to see if there is a collectors version.

I would normally be very happy about this (Physical release), but, since they didn't do it with VII and IX, this is worthless to me. Since I already bought VII and IX on the Switch in digital (the only way to get them), then a single box with VIII does nothing at this point.
Same guys that are selling Octopath Traveler for 60$ on Steam.
The backgrounds don't look enhanced at all though, and the people handling the ports are the same team who did the FFVII re release. From everything they've shown us it looks JUST like the previous releases but with new character models (which IX had too, just not as nice).
So at face value $50 is wayyy too much. But it also suggests to me that there's more they've not announced yet. So fingers crossed!
Because while the enhanced character models look good, this remaster also seems quite bare bones just like the VII and IX remasters. We don't have many details to work with, but with the current features advertised $20 is the upper limit of what I'd pay for this. Add in some more substantial improvements and changes and then $30 might become feasible
$50 is ridiculous unless there's some massive overhaul and upgrades planned (like the rumoured voice acting)

That's a terrible rumor if even remotely true.
It came out July 2018. It's a year old game and the PC version isn't adding any new content.
Yeah, I agree, I meant it more like if we compare to FFVIII at least, it is relatively new.

The chance of this being $50 with just updated visuals is very small. If the price ends up being $50 then it will have a lot more than just that.

$50 is absurd price for what's been presented. It's a lackluster remaster of an old game that at this point looks like very little went into. I could be wrong, but i'm guessing the price will be more reasonable stateside.
Amazing non-answer. I see lots of posts in threads about older games about how they shouldn't be x amount of dollars because they're y years old and no one can provide a pricing model on exactly HOW they are supposed to be priced.
Personally, I'm basing this scenario on FF7 and FF9 remasters which were released earlier at less than half the supposed $50 of this. FF9 costed more but it had more work done to character models and such. FF8 had much uglier character models so they needed more work, but I don't see that more than doubling the price of the game, so unless these VA rumors are also true, I sincerely hope the $50 rumor is also not true. I'm going to get it either way, that's why I just say I hope.
(I know this wasn't directed at me entirely, but I did give my opinion on $50 being too much so I figured I'd weigh in.)
Reminds me of people complaining about paying 40 bucks for Chrono Trigger DS. Literally one of the best games of all time, that released for closer to 100 bucks, somehow wasn't worth $40 13 years later with an all new translation, the only good features from the PS1 port, and even some new content.
FF VIII while not quite on the level of Chrono Trigger is still an all time great and it'll sell well enough that they'll do the same with VII and put it on a Blu-ray/Switch Card for people who like that.

As soon as they said there might be VA along with the updated models, I figured it was going to be at minimum $40
While VIII is the one I'm least interested in, I'd still buy it physically!

Wouldn't the 'voice acting' mention for Eng and Japanese just be for the Eyes on Me song ?
I really doubt SE will put the effort to voice the entire game.
Ff9 was completely rebuilt in Unity. It wasn't "just" a reskin. I'd imagine that's what they're doing for 8.
What I mean is, this looks exactly what they did for 9, there's no reason for this to be more than double the price.
