Remember: With Avengers out, SE has basically cleared the deck of all their major announced upcoming projects.

They're going to have to announce something soon. A lot of smart, reliable people thought we would see FFXVI at the last PS5 event. It seems it might have been pulled.

Japanese publishers have a huge vested interest in getting consumers to upgrade to the new hardware as soon as possible, so the install base is ready when their games do come out. This is why SE announced FFXIII before the PS3 came out, and FFXV before the PS4 came out.

I still think this was intended to be concept art for FFXIV. That dragon looks like the one in the Heavensward logo and the city on the hill looks a lot like Ishgard.
