I think they were just getting some more money back from an investment that didn't really pay off (enough for what they wanted at least). This doesn't appear to be real regardless.

Not really. Licencing the tracks maybe a final step, but a YouTube playlist to inspire the studio during preliminary work could happen at anytime.
