MyDrivers is reporting on two new GPUs in the Ampere family of GPUs: GA103 and GA104. Long-time nerds and enthusiasts will note that the GA103 is an interesting entry, as we would've expected GA102 and GA104, but GA103 is reportedly powering the upcoming GeForce RTX 3080 and has some beast specs with it.

GA103 will reportedly pack 3840 stream processors, 60 SMs, and 10/20GB of GDDR6 on a 320-bit memory bus. The 10/20GB VRAM option there is an interesting one, as we haven't had a card with 20GB of VRAM before. Moving onto the GA104, we have 3072 stream processors, 48 SMs, and 8/16GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit memory bus -- this will take form in the GeForce RTX 3070.

Uh ... wow. That's staggering. The price is gonna be wild on those cards.

I'm just sitting here thinking about what the fucking 3080 Ti is gonna cost if the 3080 is coming with 20GB of VRAM

Got some time to set aside some money. Need that card before Cyberpunk comes out though that's for sure.

Give it to me.

Holding out for the 3080ti been saving for a year or so. Gonna need a new cpu as well...what's the best gaming cpu to pair with something like this?

By the time 20GB of GDDR6 is relevant for PC gaming, I would think the 3080 would be a mid-tier card AT BEST. Seems like severe overkill at this point. Probably won't be anywhere near necessary for gaming for another 3 years.

But yeah, the price of the memory alone will drive that cost up something awful.

I thought so. The next gen consoles jump is gonna make my 1660Ti all but useless even at 1080p. PC can flex for once not being limited by consoles.

The 20GB of VRAM is likely for the Quattro version which will use the same board. You're not going to see 20GB of GDDR6 on a non-flagship gaming GPU.

You're likely not even going to see that on the 3080Ti.

Yeah people are misreading this, it's likely the 3070 will use 8GB of VRAM with the 3080 using 10GB. The other will be used in AI and non-consumer facing products.

Im glad I held out on the RTX2080 Ti. If 50% more powah is confirmed then my GTX1080 can count its final days. Give me MOARRRR!

I just hope there's something reasonably priced for folks who want a decent equivalent, price/performance-wise, to the old 970.

I'm not exactly optimistic, though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd be happy to see 20GB VRAM on a 3080ti. You can't even max out Red Dead Redemption 2 with the 2080ti @1440p, you run out of VRAM.

Just caved and got a 2070 Super a few weeks ago cause I couldn't wait. Phew boy this is gonna tempt me when it comes out.
I did the same but with a 5700XT so it wouldn't be as insulting when this is announced. Depending on the price of the new cards, the 5700XT might last a bit longer than I anticipated

I'm not quite excited about those specs. If we ignore any improvements from architectural and core/mem frequency improvements (as we have no idea about those), just by pure stream processor and SM count that would put the 3080 somewhere between 2080S and 2080 Ti rather than above or equal to the 2080 Ti. Throwing in more memory is not useful if nothing truly utilizes it.

I would not be surprised if Nvidia pulls another Super series out of its bag when AMD comes out with anything remotely relevant.

I'm curious, let's say the new consoles launch at $500. Would I be able to purchase a $500 gpu and except it to perform as well as the consoles for the entirety of the generation?

I know that question has a ton of "what if's" but was that case when the ps4/x1 launches? And even the 360/ps3?

I'll be looking at that 3070, depending on its price it could be a worth upgrading from my 1060. Though idk how future proof 8GB of VRAM will be for 1080p/1440p.
