Rumor: PSN Name Change May Delete Your Saves and Trophies

I just saw that news. I don't know who the hell is this Tidux.

After much speculation and anticipation, it's looking increasingly likely that PSN users will finally be able to change their names. Great news to those of us who opted for a seemingly amusing name almost twelve years ago, but have been regretting it ever since!

The latest news on the PSN Name changefeatures comes from industry insider Tidux via Twitter. Though it's firmly believed the ability to change your PlayStation ID is coming, he also believes that doing so will have some nasty consequence, including losing all your current trophies. Not only that, but it could also affect your current games and game saves tied in with that account.

He writes: "Good News! looks like PSN namechange is closing in! bad news? looks like you have to give up content prior to the PS4 if you wanna change your PSN name. Trophies, games and saves. I'm not 100 on the last point."

Of course, there have been rumors of this new function circulating previously. Many fans assumed that the PSN 6.0 firmware update would bring in the PSN Name changes.

First of all, Tidux lol. Second of all, deleting most personal data pretty much eliminates the purpose of changing your name. You could just make another account in that name and keep your old one just for game library access.

Seems like if that were true, which I don't believe that it is, it's basically making a new account and masquerading it as a name change.

There's no way they would do that. It's too easy for them to create some conversion process if they did have to relinquish the data for whatever reason.

Is it really that hard to just have a display name above your PSN ID?

Mobile games have used this for YEARS. Make it so it displays your PSN ID beneath your display name on leaderboards and multiplayer lobbies so no one gets confused. The display name can absolutely do nothing except be the most outward facing name. This shit is not hard.

THe only reason to change names would be to keep games, saves, and trophies. Otherwise we would just create a new PSN name.

I'll just keep my stupid name if it's going to effect my game purchases. Microsoft had this feature since the 360 days, so how is Sony still having issues with this?

Guess Im very lucky to have chosen a username I always liked (lostfantomena). The "lost" part came from me being a big fan of Lost at that time. One of my favorite shows of all time. Really the first "big" show I started watching.
