Just a super brief segment in this video. Also touches on the "500 Million Dollar" budget that was rumored and then debunked, reinforces that it seems "accurate", if not exact.

343 has commented previously on including Battle Royale, with the following quote:

"I'll tell you right now, the only BR we're really interested in is Battle Rifle, okay. So, the original BR. So, calm yourself."

But the Battle Royale world moves fast, and this was pre-Apex Legends.

It wouldn't be surprising if they changed their stance due to fan demand, and I kind of hope that they have.

Edit: Update from our own dear Stinkles on the matter

We will not talk about the launch content of Halo Infinite until we're ready. I haven't watched the video so if I am misinterpreting the headline as "'Halo Infinite is launching with/as a Halo Battle Royale mode" that is still not the case. You can probably make your own Battle Royale mode in Forge even right now though. It's a mode not a genre. And all the variants out there now are in my opinion quite radically different from my perspective. Apex vs Fortnite is chalk and cheese - one focuses on movement and map traversal and the other on building and budgeting. Like CTF. BTB Super Fiesta (for example) contains a lot of the shenanigans and emergent fun of that kind of large experience but big sandbox modes are not Battle Royale any more than Oddball is CTF. The launch modes for MP are not 100% defined and are subject to change till quite late in the process - but Battle Rifle will still be there. So you can have BR. But are we interested in big social modes with loads of organic shenanigans? Yes. Specifically A blimp full of survivors heading to an Island after a (metaphorical) lecture from Beat Takeshi? No.

We are NOT doing this as of now - and no plans to -- but Battle Royale could be made for any of the Halo games in MCC or 5 with some content and scripting additions, because it is a mode. It would have limits based on each engine. I'm pointing that out to be clear that it's one of the ways we think about gameplay possibilities rather than a single direction for a title.

Just turn Warzone into a BR environment where it's a PvPvE setup where to get better weapons you have to take them from AI that are roaming the map.

Do this in a bigger ODST style level and that is a good new unique BR experience.

I might think less of the 343 team if they cowtoed to pressure and included a slapdash BR mode just because "everyone is doing it".

Given that Halo has always done weapon pickups and vehicles, BR just feels appropriate for it.

Wow. 500million just for Halo? I wonder what budget they have spread around the other 1P studios and incoming acquisitions? Battle Royale with a Halo twist sounds interesting, It's great to see MS going all in.

I would certainly think it's a more interesting investment than a slow and clunky Moba-Esque mode.

The Halo sandbox is super ripe for it. Of course players can make their own Battle Royale in custom games and forge, but unless Halo Infinite's Forge Component is next level, it'll still always be a subpar experience.

Halo has had ancillary game-modes since 2009. Ideally I'd just rather have an ODST Firefight kind of thing, but a single Battle Royale map would be a fantastic supplement that I doubt would take away very much from the traditionally "core" components.

Considering what they achieved with Halo 5 forge, Infinite with a new engine should have a Forge component that is something special.

Apex already has the Halo 5 boost slide mechanic, laser accurate weapons, and decently long TTK. Idk what Halo BR would really add unless it's wildly different from everything else and Halo gameplay as we know it.

I'd still love a PUBG clone that runs at 60fps with a Halo ODST skin on it for instance.

PvPvE where the weapons arent found on the ground, they are found via AI encounters.

I feel like halo multiplayer works best with faster combat. I can't imagine a br mode being very fun.

1) I thought they said they weren't doing this?

2) Didn't he say they were going to split launch the campaign and MP last year? His track record on this seems weak at best, though I know he generally has decent MS knowledge.

I'd have to imagine their Battle Royale mode would be a larger, expanded Warzone and not a traditional BR mode.

I doubt they'll have a BR mode as we know it. I'm sure they'll have a large playercount mode that scratches the Warzone itch, but addresses it's glaring issues.

Given that Halo has always done weapon pickups and vehicles, BR just feels appropriate for it.

I don't think Halo is a natural fit for BR at all. Halo is all about having a level playing field, where advantages are obtained through skill and opportunism rather than luck.

I think it would be tough (but doable to make BR halo work)

It's been long enough since that statement that it's perfectly valid for them to change their minds. And it's far enough away that it's not some slap-dash inclusion.

I think it's a great franchise for a fun BR mode personally. It's well suited in general mechanics wise, vehicles having always been a thing, weapon pickups and other "power up" type deals...

Dude straight up leaked XBO SAD and Halo coming to PC. His track record is usually very VERY good. Plans change though so his split MP/Campaign might have been true at one point.

I don't doubt it will be advanced, but I just don't see forge maps ever reaching the fidelity of, well, official content. Unless Forge is really built with PC in mind first, maybe.

The easiest way IMO is to include Halo's signature vehicles and random AI encounters. Like how care packages will drop in other BR games, but instead it's like a Phantom of brutes.

Mix that with different factions of AI infighting, and.... Whooh boy.

I think people kind of just dislike Battle Royale because it's the hot thing right now, but Halo's sandbox would legitimately lend itself to some crazy and fresh experiences.

I just want invasion to return in a bigger and better form! One team of Spartans and one team of elites, with additional AI marines and grunts. Also bring in a battlefront like system where you earn points to play as specialised classes/ vehicles. Imagine players on the covenant side getting to play as brutes that are the tank like classes or jackels with beam riffles that could scale certain surfaces to get to spots that others can't normally get to. And on the human side you could have more tanky like Spartans like George from reach or ODST that get silenced weapons and maybe camo or something. Something like this has been a dream of mine since reach! 😭

Why is this always the assumption when there is a new popular multi-player genre? How is it slapdash? Who is pressuring them?

Halo is about large arenas with vehicles. BR could work with it. Might not. But I'm pretty sure if it's in its because the devs think it's a good idea. Nobody is holding a gun to them.

Sounds like in this case rather than trying to copy it, they want it to be different than what others are doing. Best way to do that is do PvPvE

The only reason they would make this is because BR is the in thing right now.

And thats fine really. There is nothing wrong with that. And I am sure it will be a fun little extra for the 2-3 weeks that playlist is populated.

I am just saying that its pretty much how Halo operates since Halo 4. Look at what is popular in the market, try to fit that into Halo somehow.

I'd argue that it started during the Bungie era.

Firefight was a pretty direct response to Horde Mode, and to an extent CoD Zombies.
Invasion was really cool, but not a particularly groundbreaking idea. Kind of Halo's take on Rush from Battlefield I saw it.

Battle Royal games have taken a dive in players lately, I doubt they'll be as big as they are now when Infinite is out.

I'm not saying BR is dead, I'm just saying the playerbase is getting bored.

this seems like a requirement to get people hyped for fps multiplayer these days. it's a rumour, but it basically needs to be true for halo's success.

What? Every time a new BR releases it shoots up to the top of most played and more watched lists. BR is going nowhere and still one of the most popular genres in gaming right now.

I see this being more like when bungie looked at the gears 2 horde mode and made their own version of it with firefight, rather than when 343i added killstreaks and class loadouts to halo 4 when cod was king.

One was chasing a fad while the other took notes on interesting things the industry was doing and seeing if there was a way to incorporate it into halo in a natural and meaningful way.
