This rumour comes from Graczpospolita.pl who reported through their source close to Techland that they are currently in the process of bringing over Call of Juarez: Gunslinger to the Switch. All of this lines up with the fact that Techland regained all rights to the Call of Juarez IP back in 2018 and revived the Facebook page with the image 'Legends Never Die'. Furthermore, we know Techland have been working on a Switch game that's going to be revealed later this year according to this interview with Techland's CTO Pawel Rohleder that popped up a few days ago.

I'd assume they're looking to gauge interest in the IP with a potential remaster in the best game for all current-gen systems but this rumour only mentions the Switch for now. I'll quote the article now but it's in Polish so Google Translate is going to have to suffice.

In October last year, I wrote that one of Techland's friends told me that "something is happening" with the brand name Call of Juarez . Now I know it for sure.

In 2018, Techland regained the rights to the CoJ brand , which Ubisoft had previously owned. The social media of the series revived and, oddly enough, only Gunslinger entries appeared . It took several months and I managed to confirm in several sources related to Techland that the home studio is working on the Call of Juarez port : Gunslinger on Nintendo Switch . I decided to officially ask at the source. I asked them to confirm or deny the possible versions on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, whether it is a remake or remaster and the release date. I did not receive any answers, however Techland confirmed that they are working on some Switch game.

" Techland always listens very closely to its fans. We know that many of them would like to see our productions on the Nintendo Switch. We decided to take up this challenge and later this year we will tell you about the surprise that awaits the players. More, however, I can not betray. "- Paweł Rohleder, Chief Technology Officer at Techland explains to the blog.

As the studio staff told me during the Digital Dragons conference, Techland is now focused on the promotion of Dying Light 2 and upcoming E3 fairs. By the way, in a positive atmosphere, we also talked about my leakage from DL2 announcements before last year's E3 and the break-up and comment of the head of the studio regarding their publishing house. They promised me that they would always refer - in any way - to my often uncomfortable questions.

Returning to the Dying Light 2 promotion, on Thursday they announced cooperation with Square Enix in the distribution of the game on the markets of the Americas. E3 fair is coming soon, so they are trying to make the game loud. But it is not said that it will be in Los Angeles that they will not announce the return of Silas Greaves. I am counting on it very much, but on the other hand it could slightly "disrupt" the promotion of Dying Light 2 .

No E3 sucks, but I can imagine this getting announced in a random Direct at some point in the year. If this has gyro, I'll pick it up for sure. I've played through Gunslinger dozens of times on PC and just finished a playthrough recently so I can't imagine going back to it again unless there's something that shakes it all up. Great game, though. I'd recommend everyone to check it out!

Really enjoyed it back then, Switch is in for a treat if it's true. Definitely up there with Bulletstorm in terms of ridiculous over-the-top fun action.

Weird insinuation that the Switch isn't for AAA content there.
I'm assuming he's talking from the lens of current gen games which in that case, is he really wrong? Like this year alone, the only day and date AAA current-gen games coming to the Switch are Youngblood and DOOM Eternal.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is probably the best game Techland has made. I like the Call of Juarez series as a whole (minus The Cartel), but Gunslinger is so on point and confident with its straight-to-the-action design. Each level is built around hand tailored, precise encounters that encourage mastery of the game system to chain together abilities and maximise your score. It's really utterly brilliant arcade shooting and is never not utterly exhilarating. Its method of narrative delivery is also beautifully pulpy and cheeky, cleverly playing on the unreliable storyteller trope in a 3D environment.

I'm getting a bit tired of the whole "port this old game to Switch" shtick but if this is true, and you missed out on Gunslinger, I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. It's a marvellous action game.

Also baffling it never got a sequel. Last I recall Ubisoft stated during an investors meeting way-back-when that Gunslinger performed above expectations. I figured a sequel was on the top of the deck.

Best arcade shooter there is, perfect for the switch with the short levels and going for high scores.

I still want a sequel of some kind, hell give me a VR version.

If true, I will buy again in a heartbeat. I still go back and replay it; such satisfying shooting. Very clever delivery of the narrative as well.

Outside of those three though, there's not many that come to mind...
DQXI could also be in my opinion.
I just hope that Bethesda/Panic Button can release the Switch version in parallel with the other ones. I truly believe that they'll find success and hopefully, this can incentivize other developers to see Switch/Nintendo as a real alternative to put their games on.

Kinda blows my mind that the smaller, independent studios are more likely to support Switch than big publishers. Gearbox (Bulletstorm), Ninja Theory (Hellblade), Techland (this) are actually doing their best unlike Ubisoft (no Far Cry 3 for Switch), EA (no Burnout Paradise) and Take Two (no Borderlands Handsome Collection).

Sadly this seems to be the case. I for one want Nintendo to make this all powerful console everyone wants just so they can see it won’t mean shit for getting games. In my opinion this is the best situation Nintendo and third parties have been in for games to sell. Switch has a hungry fan base that don’t mind spending money...... yet most publishers are like fuck it. Or they bring the games no one asked for.

That happened with Wii U. And just like you predicted, they tried to scam Nintendo fanbase instead of treating them like any other console owners (Mass Effect, Batman Arkham City and Deus Ex were full priced late ports. Yes, they asked $60 for ME3 while full trilogy for Xbox was just $50).

The opportunity cost is too high to port old stuff internally.

No I mean all powerful as in just as powerful as every other console on the market. It is in line with the PlayStation and Microsoft console. Just so people can stop using the dumb power excuse. Publishers just don’t want their games on Nintendo consoles. They have to cultivate and grow the fan base for their games as they haven’t been on Nintendo consoles. This is a prime opportunity with Switch. They are just dropping the ball. It is what it is I guess. I’m just a big COD fan so I’m always going to make a stink about that.

It's pretty good, yes. Fun story, cool bullet time mechanic and gunslinger duels. It was a digital release so it's not very long, like 5-7h but you can replay it and carry over your skills. IIRC it even has an arcade mode where you can go for high scores.
Yeah, it's a budget gem.
It's a prime example of a middleware/AA title that's fun, short, sweet, and to the point. Games like it aren't made too much these days.
Highly recommended.

Thanks. I like seeing games like this that can be considered a gem. I haven’t played a shooting game in a while.

The Call of Juarez series in general is such a hidden gem. They're such good western games.

Currently playing through this game on Switch, previously played on PS3 and the game is just as amazing as I remember it. The gyro aiming might make the Switch version the ideal platform to play it on. It will always have a spot on my top 10 FPS games and I pray Techland is working on a sequel. If you enjoy FPS with a solid narrative you owe it to yourself to play this game.
