I had no problem with the Karting final stretch (last 2 mission opponents and dragon cup) when i noticed that they were not that good to begin with.
So i took the last heavy military kart (don't have the name in mind), Took is slowly (braking for U turns, avoid oil in the L turns of Kamurochou hotel district part...) get 1 boost and 1 rocker (x4 with the military kart), and obliterage the one kart that dared pass me and don't care for electricity obstacles, since rings fill up health and the military is very sturdy.

Maybe your issue is that you don't do the mariokart style start boost (acceleration at 1 roughly 2 seconds before the go ), which is almost mandatory for the strategy.

I've not put tons of time into the Karting yet (more gambling at the moment!) but I've just been getting down the drift strategy with heavier karts at the moment which has been lots of fun. I also appreciate that the karting mode seems like the one mini game that has an instant retry option (at least in time trials).

My copy of the collection just arrived.

It has some pretty cool art on the inside of the case.

That Collection case gives me the best PS2 vibes. Reminds me of those PAL editions of Silent Hill 2, Ico etc.

Listening to some of the full spec Karaoke songs... and Machine Gun Kiss is even better with the full version:

I've still not done the last song yet, but from the songs on offer in this game, I love them all. Ichiban's and Saeko's especially are really nice. Not 100% sure on Eri's song though, I prefer it in Yakuza 6.

Decided to read some of the stories of Online and they are totally different from 7. So obviously online is not canon anymore. Wonder how they can bring the Ichiban in Online closer to the one in 7.

Or are they just gonna keep doing spin-off from previous games in Online and ignore Ichiban for a while.

Yeah, Online's story in retrospect is really bare bones, its basically just a brief opening that introduces a few of the same main characters, and then its basically just fighting the 4 kings in Kamurocho, with no real deep look into the characters (though Mayumi and the cop to get a brief moment to shine each). 7 is way deeper, and while it kinda follows a similar basic idea plot wise, its just way more in depth and interesting thanks to the 3 gangs in Ijincho and seeing just how everything relates to each other. Online ended on a cliffhangar, which is basically a similar point to where I am now in 7 funnily enough, but I do wonder if they'll go back and finish Ichiban's story as its sorta paper thin compared to 7's. I'd still love to know who the heck X is supposed to be though...
I do love the crossover/flashback events in Online though, those are cool. I think I actually prefer them more to the main game story.

And the thing with Online, is that I really liked the detective (name escapes me ) and the female lead (Mayumi) but their plot archetypes and even basic plot sorta shares some striking similarities to Adachi and Saeko so I don't quite know if its even worth introducing them into the main series, as they wouldn't really add all that much. Heck, even that gang leader you team up with in Online (again, name escapes me) is basically a weaker version of Zhao/Han...

The only actual person that NEEDS to be brought over from Online asap is Akiyama, he's too damn good to not be used again in a major roll.

So, had some time to put into the game today, managed to tick off pretty much all the side stories to this point in chapter 11... I think the standout one today has easily been the
second Ono Michio side story. Its everything I wanted from it actually - good vs evil (well, real vs fake) Ono Michio's including Ichiban dressing up as him and delivering the smackdown. It cracked me up, and the Ono summon is pretty great as well in terms of effect. So that's a nice bonus! Also beat a Monkey driving an excavator (lol!) and another Karting mission. Also finally hit up Space Harrier and did some more Virtua Fighter 5 FS (which was fantastic fun).

Also, more time spent on side content, and... I like what they did to hostess clubs? Its basically removed all dialogue and such and its basically just a method of boosting male character bonds really quick (handy for the last two characters who just joined). Granted, I really loved how Kiwami handled it, but I certainly don't miss the days of having to romance 10 hostesses in some of the older games, it was just so darn boring. So I welcome this completely stripped back version.

Also, Zhao's Karaoke song really rocks. Very much the kind of thing I'll listen to over and over!

Oh, also hit up the casino, and some good points and bad points:
The bad point is that you can only buy chips in increments. Its annoying when you want to tackle high stakes stuff because I like to have an excess of chips in case I lose (which will happen sooner rather than later). I wish you could choose how many chips you buy at once, rather than rebuy 1000 chips over and over.
The good points are that, like in the Japanese gambling stuff, you have high stakes stuff unlocked from the beginning. I hated low stakes stuff in previous games because it took forever even if you were winning, I prefer the high risk/high reward nature of this way more. Also, having a button to auto max bet in black jack as well as the rebet option is a nice new addition to save time.

At this point I have around 85% of the mini game completion list done. I'm really just missing out on some of the tougher Mahjong stuff, and a little bit here and there as the rest is super easy to do, doesn't even take as long either. That said, if your aiming to 100% it for the heck of it, its still a 100 hour + affair!

Started Yakuza 7 chapter 12 this morning - plan:
woo! Off to Osaka!
- reality: lets play Karting for several hours!

Seriously, not quite sure which kart is the best (aside from the one you get at the end which I don't have yet) but I've found one that has a decent speed and doesn't handle all too heavily and I'm just loving the time trial mode going for better times. Its no Ridge Racer (my favourite arcade racer ever) but the courses are designed fun enough for some decent time attack!

Ok, made it to
Sotenbori
and while the battle music is simply reused from a previous title, I see that as the best choice as its already perfect as is. The enemies here are nicely powered up, and some of the designs are absolutely fantastic! Grabbed a couple of better weapons from the pawn shop as well. And since the hidden safe's, Tojo badges, briefcases etc. are all in attendance around the city, it gives me an excuse to explore it all over again. Also finally managed to acquire a few missing items for the completion list, which is super handy.

Finished 7.

It's a compelling story but the party/bond stuff makes it very cheap. I fed up with the word 仲間/nakama, I don't know the English eqiuvalent of it, more than "dream" in 5. Ichi and his party members often bring the word here and there. We are best friends I'm always be with you if you need a shoulder use mine brabrabra. RGG now becomes Mother with Ojisan & Obasan skins. Boys and girls get together and saying hey lets's beat the evil and save the world... It's like a manga on Young Magazine moves to Shonen Jump with a new chapter. Also, the party members appearances are very awkward in some cut scenes. Sometimes, it's very weird they are there but none of the characters pointed that out. I think Ichi's solo adventure could make the story better. It would stand out the very last scene more effectively.

As for the battle, I'm not a experienced JRPG guy so I don't say much about it but the standard static command battle could be better? "live action command battle" doesn't add "fun" to the game much. The environmental stuff doesn't work in most of the cases. The positions of the characters are important but you can't manipulate the position of them at all. The battles in the wide open area or the complicated area, the party members are sometimes far away from the group of enemies. Watching them approaching a enemy, attack and return repeatedly is annoying.

I'm not a big fan of the job system. It doesn't add anything but kinda useless skills to the long command list I have to browse ever time when I want to use a kiwami skill.

The balancing is not good. This is kinda expected though. If you are a player like do all the side stuff available at the moment first and then advance the main story, the game becomes very easy. I didn't have any tense moments in all the boss battles.

Nakaya is the best actor in the series.

Anyway, now the writer(s) is(are) free from the legacy of the series. if the studio continue to make RGG games, I would like them to stay away from Yakuza stuff.

Yeah, this is definitely something that leaps out at me here. I've been doing everything as I go, including keeping up on modding and just cleared the battle arena in chapter 12. Ended up at high 50's for each character with good gear for everyone. Tackled the boss fight(s) at the end of the chapter which I've seen cause people problems, but I didn't really experience that myself - as long as you use buffs, debuffs and summons along with decent gear it really isn't all that tough. But that said, I loved the fight and that entire section as
anytime Majima and Saejima get to spend screentime together is a joy for me. The intro rocks, the boss music and intro rocks, and being so leveled up meant I had plenty of Kiwami skills to use for each character, which again made the fight mode fun because I wasn't chipping away at the health rather dealing decent damage

I see what you mean about the job system though, I used it early on when the game was super easy and got my fill of the various classes (or most of them at least) but this point in the game aside from Adachi and Saeko, I use all the default (well, I count Hero as Ichiban default) classes as they are just so much better I guess? Not sure about Zhao's class vs what he can use but I just love all the Bajiquan moves, makes me want him in a fighter about anyone else, his animations are fucking fantastic.

That said, I much prefer the active battle system vs a static one. Granted there are definitely some glaring issues with it (I'll cover those later) but I just love the flow of the combat, and the way the camera pans over the battle field as you switch from one character to the next. I think it can certainly be built on in future games to fix most of the issues.

It's 9/10 for Gamekult.com !

For the record, the best score they gave for older yakuza titles was a 7/10 (even Yakuza 0).
That's a huge deal. They are brutal on their reviews, so that's high praise indeed. Thanks for sharing :)

Anyway, one detail I loved in the chapter 12 boss fight against
Saejima and Majima is that, despite you technically winning the fight (as in, you deplete their health) is that Ichiban just made them break a sweat... I kinda love how they make sure to prove that despite you winning, Ichiban still doesn't quite seem to be all that strong when compared to the legends. I'll be interested to see how they handle Kiryu's fight in a couple of chapters time.

has anyone got the DLC characters for the company employee thing? Mainly the hostess girls, but also legacy characters.
I know I can progress without it but I just want to make things a bit easier + I want to hear some of the voices.

So are you supposed to grind for 3 million yen to progress the story around Chapter 11 I believe it was?
I was far past the 3 million mark when i reached that point thanks to the business. But yeah, you need the money.

How do I access my DLC?.
By memory, from the main menu, you can access the smartphone and from there you will see your DLCs (middle row left icon iirc) and can redeem them iirc.

I was trying to make progress yesterday night and instead got embroiled into a hardcore battle of Mahjong. I was so close to winning the second table in Sotenbori several times yet had victory viciously snatched away each time! Managed it in the end, no reason to even be doing all this, but dammit if it isn't fun in its own way! Just got the hard tables in Ijincho (China Town) and Kamurocho to go now. I've pretty much cleared all the mini game requirements already, which is strange, as I expected it to take way longer. They really did relax those requirements this time round...? On the other hand I'm 100 hours into the game so maybe I'm just having so much fun that I'm not noticing how much time I'm spending on everything!

The business mini game with Eri. Its worth doing anyway for all the unlocks you get, but once you hit rank 1 you get 3 mil per run. I have around 30million at my disposal at the moment. Arena also pays out pretty decent, running all 30 floors got me something like 3mil, but depending on where you are on the story, you cant access that yet.

You should do the business mini game already. This is the obvious point the game makes :) you get a ton of things other than money like the strongest AOE attack in the game and...Eri the beast as a party member (well for that you just need to reach the first and finish the first meeting). Game is very easy and can be finished in 2-3 hours easily.

Otherwise tons of other things that give you lots of money like finding all cats or photographing the kappas for example. I think there are more than 5 ways to get money quickly if you don't want to run the business game.

Apparently one of the kappas has a bunch of level 50 dudes guarding it, not sure if I’ve started the cat quest yet, and I still haven’t entirely grasped the business minigame not getting a lot of money from it at the moment.

By the time you reach that point, you have a fancy watch and jewelry you can sell around two millions.
Collection Kappa and cat is the easiest way to earn three millions yen. It only takes about 15 mins for each.

Kiryu? Currently level 55 and he’s smashing my face in. Already finished the arena a few times to level up but can’t seem to make any head way with him. They really smashed the difficulty up with these legend bosses. Majima was a pain too

Your level should be fine, what jobs and equipment are you using? At this point you can have ultimate weapons through crafting, also job levels give way more stats than normal levels, so you should at least be close to 30 on some.

Almost everyone as their usual jobs except I got idol on sachan. As for the ultimate weapons, I’m assuming that’s with the weapon creator? I unlocked the legendary weapon seller but his stuff is all awful by the time I unlocked him

Yes, you need to invest three times, 2220万 overall, I think. Also
Level Namba as host enough to learn spread Ice, IIRC it’s Kiryu’s only weakness, then switch back to homeless. Use Ichi as support with his healing spells, maybe one more support with Saeko, then use Cho to debuff and Namba to damage.

When does Cho get the debuffs? I can't recall me unlocking those yet (or I've not paid attention to his move unlocks). I've got Ichi with the spread ice attack though, which is certainly handy.

Business mini game is really easy. Cat quest is started by finding a cat (they meow like in past games if they are nearby) I think. Or I think it was visiting Bait Heros office in the north which starts it.

For Business mini game for simple explaination:

You can buy two business at first, always buy the ones that have the most Yen symboles on them
At first you can just fill them with employees to get those scales full and not upgrade anything
Then you do money collecting runs, 4 in a row and then you start the share holding meeting
Winning the meetings is easy, your employee set up should be at least one red, one blue and one green employee with another employee having a big persuade stat to attack them when they have their guard down
It then goes like this: Someone will stand up and start to complain, you press X to select them and immediately chose the corresponding employee that will immediately break their 3 shield guard (it's the Fire Emblem weak point system just with colors, it even shows you who is weak against their argument)
Shield is broken and then you use your strongest persuade employee and just attack them till they sit down
Repeat
Every second gives you another attack point which you see mid down below, attack with one of your employees will cost points
After a few seconds you can also use apologize skills to let every sharehold person sit down and calm down for a few seconds

If you defeat everyone you win and get money according to your rank and shareholder % you managed to get, at 100% it's 3x the money you would get otherwise

After your first meeting and winning you can buy an additional building also get newer employees in the mean time to chose. Also new building listings will appear (take the building with the highest Yen stat). You can now start upgrading building in the options.
First upgrade stat is always for making more money with the building (which also increases the stats you need to meet with your employees), the other stats are for improving the scales and making it easier to stay blue and not get red

Do your 4 session run again, always stay cautious that your employees are happy (go to employees, manage employees, press square and then just accept to make everyone go happy again for a bit of money). Here you can also upgrade employees level and break their limits for future buildings and future shareholder meetings to give them more and better stats.

It's really easy and I never got below 100% acceptance rate or had any trouble at all.

Most importantely: Sometimes you are able to do CM (which are very funny) which will give you double the money for 3 or 4 runs. :) it pays off immediately. If you can manage 4 buildings or more you can start to look at selling older buildings and get better ones to reach the top more easily and quicker. Otherwise it's just a grind with pressing R2 :)

Get the rocket launcher in Osaka to make it easier (about 3000 damage with two rocket launchers) which makes it a lot easier. Otherwise I had Ichi, Han, Sae (as idol) and Eri for him and smashed him without troubles. Sae just heals everything every round and the others can just go ham with everything they had. The fight before that was a lot more difficult for me, he.

Almost all his standard blunt skills have debuffs as side effects, make sure to read the full descriptions.
I'll be honest, never noticed that as no one really stayed alive after using those attacks to get inflicted with those status debuffs! Thanks for the heads up!

Unlike Majima, Kiryu won't attack woman characters so having Sae and Eri in the party is a good strategy.
See, I was thinking of doing this but technically wouldn't that mean he'd be more likely to attack Ichiban, which in turn may make it harder as if he's KO'ed its game over?
