For those who doesn't know how to play Shogi mini game:
Download Shogi app (
I wouldn't imagine it's needed. Unless it makes it easier to make profit on each property?

I cleared the minigame with the same 4/5 people (for the Shareholders meetings), who were either substory characters or just offered to me to hire.

Otherwise, I've just been selling businesses and buying bigger properties whenever I raise enough capital.

Yes it's not needed. But I used DLC to finish the business in several hours from the beginning that I start the mini game. It's very easy and don't need to go outside for side quest employees.
Anyway, it's not necessary, but will make the game easy. It's a way to see the characters you love to work in your company, and because this game has no deluxe edition or collector edition, I purchased the DKC to support the developers haha.

Can't wait to get to that lol everyone is hyping that part up. Currently just got out of the chinese hostess club after that pervert arm licking guy tried to harm Saeko >:(

I love Saeko. It's great to see woman get a bigger part in this series (also I love the muda muda muda move).

Also I mostly understand everything so far even though I only learn japanese since last April (well a lot every day, but still) and it's a great exercise reading everything unvoiced. :)
Saeko rocks. She's definitely portrayed mainly as a strong woman (her past is really interesting as well). She gets to kick ass and so far, hasn't been kidnapped! I'm still using her DLC class as while its not super strong, enemies aren't exactly too dangerous either and since its AoE attacks are great, it stays. Well that and she has a machine gun now which is hilarious.

Eri though is the dark horse. She's not as strong personality wise as Saeko, but I tried her in battle and chose the attack where she throws a bunch of pins at enemies. Its AoE is insane, she's great in battle. So Namba is sitting the next couple of chapters out for now!

I'm definitely enjoying exploring, gathering more employees for the business and just doing side stories and stuff. The different classes are fun to play with as it adds a bit of variety to combat, I opened the three hidden shops you need the demolisher/hammer class to open, which was worth it for the safe keys and Pachislots items alone. So that's cool! I don't see me moving the plot on much just yet!

Question for people who can understand japanese lol, is the main char Bi-racial? I mean, he looks like it at least to my eyes.

Just curious how many times Dragon Quest is explicitly referenced in this game? I thought it was wild that he mentions it in the trailer, was wondering if it comes up a lot in the full release.
I am in chapter 5 and I think I already saw it mentioned like 5 times.
It's hilarious to the point where I wonder if SE paid for it lol.

Just had a look at the trophy list. Seems like an easier plat than usual but with a bit of grinding needed.

Really hope it gets a date over here soon. I'll have the remastered collection on disc in a few weeks but I really want this.

No, he's fully japanese. There are some foreigners you do recruit to your party
one is Korean, the other is Chinese.

Oh word? I didn't think Japanese genetics allowed for crimped almost afro-like hair like that, which is why I thought that. Then again it's not like I know much about the subject at all haha.

It's not like Ichiban wanted that hair style :) Adachi even makes fun of him that asshole

Man I love those guys too much already lol

So is the general consensus this game is great? What's the grind like in regards to the platinum? Currently going through judgment and while it's good I'm not really a fan of the combat. There seems to be no real strategy. The wall running attacks look and sounds cool but they are rarely used and miss most of the time? The detective stuff isn't bad but the combat I'm just spamming and the enemies with weapons are really annoying especially in tight spaces

So glad you posted this, it cracked me up when I got to this point in the game. Adachi and Ichiban go so well together. Its one of my favourite scenes in the game, along with Ichiban and Namba's talk at the end of chapter 3...

Anyway, been doing more chapter 6 side stories. And some of these are cracking me up like
the fight against the masochist who wants you to hurt him as much as possible - I smashed him with a sledgehammer, threw lots of pins in his face, stabbed him, shot him with a machine gun, electrocuted him and did a tag team attack with my entire party. Not a scratch on him.

Also, the dude kicked out of the soap land mid session leads to a really silly brief mini game. Very funny (wish it was a bit harder though)

Believe in me. All players who said this disagree d after they played 7. I have seen too much posts about such topic. They made this turn based combat so good that I can't stop trying new classes and skills.
I am playing it and I still don't care for it I like everything else about the game which is why I hope for some classic Yakuza action based title again in the future.

I'd imagine I would not care about the new protagonists as much if we were playing as only Kazuka. The Turn Based Element really allows the group to seem like a group. It always felt that Kiryu was alone in his story-lines.

If you like RPGs a little bit you will love this game. Has tons of options and it's the Final Fantasy I never knew I needed. It's not like I needed tons of strategy so far, but I am also still early game and saw videos of late and post game that didn't look easy.

For me the biggest change is just having more people with you and the game not being about a single person at the moment. It just works here.

Yakuzas brawl system before that was braindead easy even on Legendary and sometimes even just annoying at certain fights which I don't have here so far and it's not just a means to experience the story for me. For me 0 still had the best system in the brawling style.

Up to rank 20 in the business management. Yeah, I like how the mechanics on this works way more than Kiryu's in 0. I sold off some old buildings because their profits sucked, then grabbed a loan or three and got some far more profitable buildings. Now I'm making insane money, enough for another couple of decent profit builders I reckon.
Recruiting characters via side stories and finding them in Ijincho is definitely required for these better buildings though, Hikaru? is a fantastic character that you should absolutely track down as he's got amazing stats for both boardroom battles and general property management. I must have wasted a couple of hours already today on this mini game just getting more money and furthering Eri's bond (which seeing as she rocks as a party member is well worth doing just for the general combat buffs you'll get by doing this).

Oh, and did more Dragon Kart, which is great fun as a fun little mini game. And now I have a good 3mil yen spare I'll power up my kart some more! And finally start on the gambling stuff...

*edit*
We totally need a gif version of the "expensive purchase" in the business mini game. Its even better than 0s. Cracked me up the first time I saw it.

Yeah, i am feeling the exact same way too. The RPG elements and combat aren't doing anything for me, not a fan whatsoever however, everything else about the game has been stellar so that's good at least.

It would suck if RGG Studios fully abandons the old style altogether.

I mean that is the point, the games involving Kiryu generally revolved around him. 7 is a different beast, it's built as a party based game which of course has to reflect a story where it's not just Ichiban in the center. I never felt that about Yakuza 4, 0 and 5 though, which definitely like a group based story. In fact I was all about Akiyama in Yakuza 4 and Shinada in 5. Plus Yavami was a freaking great protag in Judgment, lots of camaraderie with the likes of Saito-san. I don't think Ichiban would have felt less fun in an action based title, it would have just been a different game.

Thanks for all of the impressions in here.
I'm playing through Y0 right now and loving it.
The thought of a Final Fantasy battle system / party system is hard to wrap my head around based on Y0 lol.
But, I love FF games and hope I end up loving this game.
Have we had an English release confirmed yet?

Gave the first optional dungeon a try. Yeah, I need to come back later. Not so much because of the boss but the pirates right before, perfectly possible under leveled, but not exactly a good idea.
Still I backtracked and got a shit ton of XP so I'm happy. And even more over leveled than I was before. Oops. Guess I won't have to worry about long boss fights for a while! I think I'll take this chance to try out some more new classes.

Also, aside from tackling dungeons far too early, I did give more of the side content a play:
Golf is the driving range from 2/Kiwami 2/5 (so no full golf course :( ) and I believe a change has been made to the aiming - before it was all down to aiming left/right and shot strength (and keeping in mind the wind direction). This go round you basically move a cursor on a small overhead map in the corner and then take into account wind direction etc. honestly I quite like the change, I wasn't that much of a fan of the whole degree's/aiming thing of the old version. I forget exactly how Kiwami 2 did it though, so maybe I'm just mistaken on this being a new feature. But either way, its fun.

Batting Cages is same as Kiwami 2, what with the points you win lessening the better bat you use, so while you could walk the challenges with the best bat, the game encourages you to not do that. Its not particularly hard yet and I'd rather get as many points as I can for the Daytona and Border Break CDs.

Darts is the 6/Kiwami 2/Judge Eyes version (so super duper easy) but the good thing is that you can play against your team mates, which instantly makes it more fun (well, fun for me, Saeko seemed pissed off I beat her!). You can buy better darts if you want, but its not exactly all that hard to begin with but having the option is cool.

Dragon Kart is fairly easy (at least at the moment) with the AI really not being a threat. But I really quite like the handling and course design. Encourages that you learn proper positioning and drifting so the time trials end up more fun than actual kart races because aiming for my best time is super fun. Plus the side stories associated with this are just plain silly, so its all good.

Other than that its mainly been me playing the arcade. VF2 is still a technical marvel even after all these years, plays damn good as well. Outrun is pretty much the perfect arcade game for me, clearing the courses is supremely satisfying. The UFO Catcher feels maybe a hair easier to get toys this time, or maybe Yakuza 5 just broke me at certain points with its evil toy/shelf placements... I do like how there's actual reason to get the toys this time beyond a completion list though, the missions you are given ask you to win certain toys which can then be traded for money/items which is nice. Also managed to score me a nice number of bugs for the completion list as well...

Now I'm making a bit of cash, I plan on starting the gambling stuff, there's a few nice looking items I want that I need to win, lets see how my Koi Koi skills are these days...

Played a few more mini games and focusing on the completion list.
Slots is probably the least interesting mini game yet again. Just so... slots. Never been a fan and this did nothing for me.
The Japanese gambling games (why no Ceelo :( ) are really easy to clear in this though, requires very few points. The quickest I've ever finished Koi Koi.
Likewise, the casino stuff is pretty easy.
Also, someone needs to turn the bloody brightness down in the gambling games, the whole thing is bizarrely bright now, especially in Koi Koi, no idea why either!

Oh, and played more Virtua Fighter 5 FS. Its still so damn good, best mini game in the series yet again. I'll never tire of this game...

Made some decent progress in chapter 7. Ended up equipping my weakest weapons just to make fights last a bit longer (I don't really want a challenge, just an excuse to use all my cool moves!). Ended up fighting
Han Jungi, who gets his badass boss theme from Yakuza 6 back. Loved it! A nice array of moves and I had plenty of my own to use

Swapped around styles a bit, using the host class on Ichiban (yay, Ice attacks!), dominatrix for Saeko (ok, I really like this class, its got quite a few really funny moves) and the gambler style... which is my least favourite (think I'll go back to the office class for Eri, much more fun).

Oh, and I had to laugh at one of the big revelations in this chapter, so the Korean Mafia are basically...
Hanaya of Ijincho! Camera, surveilance, information etc. but it does explain the whole need for lots o electricity. Oh, not sure if its coming or not, but kinda wish we'd have a fight against the boss of the Korean Mafia, she rocks. At least 7 probably has the best female characters in the series, not exactly a high bar but its about time we got more than hostesses/damsels and Haruka

Cleared out a little more side stuff tonight. Switched Eri back to office class while retaining the coin/chip toss move she has, so I guess that's best of both worlds. Her new stapler move is fantastic as well!
Cleared the business management side content, great fun and I now have a decent amount of money should I need it for modding etc.
Also decided to give Mahjong a try, note to self - don't turn half game on again, it lasted forever (oops) but hey, got Ippatsu on my very first hand, so my luck somehow is still there! Will tweak the rules and play more later, the completion related stuff seems not too bad, but winning some of those later tables is probably gonna be a tough one assuming the AI is just like I imagine it.

Now I have a stack of cheat items, I'll give slots another try, see if that can make it more fun. Otherwise I may just give up with that mini game, it continues to not really be any fun :(

Yeah I don t understand why they put friggin slots when they have so many pachinko machines in their portfolio... slots are boring as all hell.

The highest level paid weapons are 1000man that s quite a lot, but you get 4/5th of these for free in a battle challenge. Sadly one of the missing ones is for my ichiban :/
I am starting to see the limits of my current team setup, I am in chap 15 and cannot expedite a couple ennemy types ... I don t have the debuff capabilities necessary to break their defense... I will have a hard time, the ~2000hp damage of the rocket launcher removes quite a small chunk of lifebars now. I need to develop another job... though I don t know which job is the debuff job, I ll have to experiment xD

I should probably look into debuffs... I've not actually bothered using any yet what with the beginning so easy! I look forward to getting back to the game tonight so I can top off a few side stories and more Mahjong. Probably should get some more Virtua Fighter done as well for the completion list (but really I should get back to the story, which has taken some great twists recently)

There some very nice and playable pachinko, though my favourite were not In fact real machines but video games of pachinko. Ps2 had quite a lot of these.
Anyway... just finished the game :3 I love the staff roll music...
It s not finished though, i must prepare for the post game final challenge (well i think it s the final one). Why do i feel this won t be a walk in the park ?

After some pretty easy stuff on the Mahjong tables in the past, the last one + championship match in the first parlour tested me way more, but damn was it some tense fun!
Also did some more batting cage stuff (got enough points for the music CDs, Rent a Hero baby!) and also cleared more of the Byte Hero completion requirements. And some darts... no actual plot progress though, I'll save that for the weekend! And thankfully with extra dungeons, arena, probably a little bit of grinding for later bosses etc. I'll have no shortage of things to do as per usual. But I do think this might be the least invasive completion list we've gotten in a while, aside from being optional, the requirements are far tamer than Judge Eyes (for example) - because here we just gotta play darts a few times, in JE you had to get certain feats in darts (3 in a bed, white horse etc.), Mahjong is just clear all tables while obviously JE was way more demanding. Only stuff that remains the same is the arcade, and honestly those requirements remain a pushover. Ok, maybe clearing Dural in VF5 could be tough (you only get 1 shot per run) but even that's perfectly doable, with no Puyo Puyo in this one there's no super hard challenge this time. Heck even Shogi just has you clear the challenge mode which is easy to cheese with a Youtube guide.

Indeed, some really nice shots there :) I loved how you get this really nice look down on part of Ijincho when you move offices in the business mini game. That and the really nice water in most of Ijincho at night with those reflections. That said, its also got some grimy looking water, especially during the day time when you see all the garbage floating by in the river. Little details like that are really cool.

Glad to hear it :) It'll take me a few weeks to get close to the ending, I've put so much time into side stuff I've barely moved the story forward any this past week!
Me either. When I finished the game I only have 2 trophies unlocked. Maybe I can't platinum the game because the Dragon Kart last level is too hard for me.
