After Chapter 10 I finally realized that Yakuza 0 - 6 were Seinen anime and Yakuza 7 is Shounen anime.

And I enjoy it a lot.

No there was a safe station afair. It was a bit "hidden" or more difficult to find (well it's a side alley before the boss room)
was there one with actual save point? Because I only saw healing station and item box.
Anyways I got past this now. I went back and some weapon and armor. They have some really high stat ones I can craft relatively easily lol.

Finished all the side quests. The last quest is really good.

Did the game just hint at the boss at the bar being Kashiwagi?!

It's strange not having a trophy incentive to get the completion list done. I only am forcing myself to do the Batting Centre to get some Cheerful points.

Second time completing the Battle Arena and my highest job is only level 29, with Job Exp buffs. The Kamuro Dungeon is stingy with regards to Exp so far, and is quite easy.

I've been using Kasuga with an item that increases Character Exp but halves MP for most of the game. Only downside is I can't use the Kiwami gained from the Business minigame. I will swap it out for the MP item you guys mentioned earlier.

The Kamurocho dungeon has a new second floor, there you can find the metal slime like enemies. Make sure you have Han Joon Gi on your party, his rapid shot will melt them.

Chapter 10, decided to actually do some plot... and wow this was definitely worth the wait!

Its actually one of my preferred "dungeons" so far because it isn't really long like a few others, so the pace feels tighter, it relies on stronger enemy/boss type characters which is ok by me. Obviously we were fighting the tiger! But also I loved the fight background music and fight music (all of it) in these bits, really helped set the tone.
Oh, and while I knew Namba wasn't staying away, they nailed his return. Showing up to help you kick Omi ass. I approve! And seeing Mitsu again briefly was great.

So yeah, overall I really liked this entire set piece, nicely paced, great soundtrack, fun fights and some nice plot advancement as well.

If you are feeling burned out by playing the first three, you'll feel the same after playing 4 more. There's really no need to rush through them anyway, taking your time with each is really the best approach as they are all very similar in design.

Chapter 10 down. Some nice heartfelt scenes there... Ichiban's backstory is forming nicely, I'm really liking him as the lead protag.

Also, I've not played many RPGs, especially those that have summon monsters/attacks, but does anyone else really love how its handled in this game?

I really love the romantic couple/film dude (forget his exact name) that is basically a powerful blizzard attack - but instead of a big ice beast showing up and freezing everyone, its the dude hugging the lady to keep her warm during a snowstorm while everyone else freezes. Its so very... Yakuza. Likewise, I cleared the whole 1million yen surgery quest with the little kid, who you unlock as a summon after that, and out of curiocity I tried her summon, and its a really nice summon which just damages the enemy as money is drained right out of them - and you get no cash for the battle win if you use her as it all goes into the donation box!
Then you have the Jason-esque butcher who is slicing up some meat rather brutally (yet also pretty accurately) and the enemies freak the fuck out because it looks like he's hacking a body apart - it damages them all AND inflicts them with fear.
Then you have Lau Ka Long who's just a badass display of martial arts (loved how he'd do that in 1 and 3 as well), the cat who transforms into a tiger, the sumo, the diaper dude etc. Oh, and of course GBH, whom I love summoning just because he's badass. That's not even taking into account the ones I'll get later like Kiryu, Majima, Watase etc.

Also, while finishing chapter 10 I decided to stop off and do some side stories and happened upon one which tied in wonderfully to a certain Yakuza 6 side story with
Ono Michio becoming a super popular mascot - I love the little Kiryu voice samples, and would totally by one of those models if they existed. I also love the knock off figure/mascot, and after finishing this side story I noticed that it seems that its not over as I saw the fake mascot elsewhere. Can't wait to see what they have in store next

So as I've said quite a bit while playing - even if the combat change kinda leaves you cold, there is still so much charm and Yakuza style to this game that its still well worth investing time into the plot and side stuff. I'm a good 78 hours into the game now as I enter the final third and am still loving it. I get the feeling this is the point where I need to start powering up more, as all the bosses I assume will come my way next will be the super strong and legendary ones...

*clap clap*

you are not completely done though ;) You have one last battle arena to beat !

I love the staff roll music (specially how it ends).
Yeah, any recommended party setups? I'm in the late 60s level wise but the final fight took forever, as I didn't really have any elemental offense. I'd imagine the post game is even tougher.

Only to level up once more, clear the dragon kart stuff and the post game and I have the Platinum. Only 62 hours on the clock so far.

Well... i went in with Demolition expert Ichiban, Idol Saechan, DLC eri, base others. Sae and Ichiban are maxxed out on their jobs, so i have near infinite recover-from-death-without items, she also has the wonderful song that highly lowers defense + makes enemies fall in love, and a special song that increases in power by the number of people in love. Ichiban is brutal with his all-hitting "demolition special" :P
Ichiban is also high ranked in fortune-teller for the allmighty lightning orb attack (very heavy electrocution for 3 ennemies).
Sae is also high ranked in dominatrix so she inherited the flame attack.
DLC eri and base..."you know whom fighting with ironknuckles" both have area spreading gunshots.... you-know-whom has a special with a zapping tool very convenient and very low cost, and DLC Eri has a special that messes up others' capacity to hit and speed (you know how you fought with siblings at night time ? that one) .

Spray gun with you know whom -> Spray with Eri -> defense down Sae -> Ichiban lightning Orb or group demolition special -> Spray you know whom -> just guardxX -> [best fitting attack you know whom] -> best fitting attack Eri or switch to more appropriate character - > special song attack Sae -> normal attack ichiban... That's a killer combo that brings devastation to most enemy groups i encountered xD

I have best armor items for Ichiban and Sae , high chainmail and no-instadeath charm for both since together they can revive the others .
You know-whom is best with a MP cost reducing item and high level chainmail since he doesn't have much MP and his spray bullets attack costs a lot :/

Finished the game at 77 hours. Completed all the side quests. What a great game. Lived up to the expectation.

Gameplay:
The biggest change of the series and arguably the best change of the series. Did not expect how much variety and depth turn-based system brought to the game.
- The job system is amazing. Each job is unique and the skills are ridiculous and fun.
- 4 person party brings so much more depth to the game. Unlike the style change in previous games where the styles are kind of different but also similar. 4 person party means 4 totally different and hilarious job/class.
- Ichiban's crazy imagination means more enemy variety. It will be really tough to go back to previous games when all the enemies are kind of the same.
- Turn based means you can no longer spam Toughness ZZ and cheese the fights. Actual strategy is required. Especially if you did not grind and is under leveled.
- SUMMONS ! ! ! The best part of this game. They are so funny and ridiculous.

Story:
It's a solid introduction for Ichiban. Definitely setup his character and story going forward. Ichiban and his friends create a great dynamic in both the story and side content.

Performance:
Ichiban's voice actor gave a top tier performance. Reminded me why he was so good as Nishiki in 0. Honestly, with how good Ichiban's VA is and legacy characters such as Kiryu and Majima, people would really miss out if they play DUB when the game comes out in English.

Side Quests:
The side quests are pretty fun. However, the big side activities are not as good as 0 or Kiwami 2. Still enjoyable though.

The "Mirror man" character felt like a bail out. Otherwise, the ending was pretty good. Still liked 6's story more overall.

Removing Tojo and Omi is a great way for Ichiban to have his own adventures in future games without being tied to Kiryu's past. This also means we might get Majima as a protagonist again. He definitely needs a proper send-off that is on par with 0.

Kiryu's storyline also gave hints of a potential return? The way they characterized Kiryu left the impression that he will return one last time and clear his name to finally retire. Definitely can see them doing a Kasuga/Kiryu two protagonists game in the future.

I'm only at chapter 10 but agree with almost all those points - but I definitely think the big side stuff in this is better than Kiwami 2 easily, and up there with 0 (though to be fair, I find Cabaret Club slightly over rated, I actually prefer the FOTNS version myself). Plus that gives you Eri who absolutely rocks!

Summons definitely rock, I love using them even if I don't even need to, they are just really funny to watch and genuinely very well designed in terms of attacks.

And yeah, plot/performance wise for the VA work with Ichiban especially is top tier, Namba I think deserves a shout out as well. Old man Arakawa is bloody brilliant as well.

I'm at the same point (well, just cleared chapter 10) and everyone is somewhere between 35-40. Your a bit under leveled, but to be fair up to now the game doesn't really demand anything from you.

At your stage, the best way to level up is to hit the dungeon. In the dungeon after the first floor and save point, you'll be able to stumble across a couple of hobo characters - the ones that one take 1 damage no matter the move you do. The idea is to use a multi hitting attack (and you've just gotten someone very capable at doing a multi hit gun attack) to take them out quick - they run away after a short time. Beating that fight gives you a ton of EXP and Job XP. From there you can head to the previous floor and then back again for them to respawn, find a decent loop and you'll be leveling up quickly in no time. Just keep in mind if your planing on finishing the dungeon, the boss is level 40 and really vulnerable to electric attacks.

I had Kasuga at level 67, with all other characters ranging from 60-65. Each character had their main job at max level (30).

I highly recommend tacking the battle arena as soon as you unlock it, as the bosses at the end of that chapter (12) are level 50.

My next task is levelling each to 75 or so, and maybe level a few other jobs as I am lacking in elemental moves

Dungeons and battle arenas promote you quickly. Iirc i went from 35 to 45 in chapter 12 with the battle arena (had a hard time with the "boss" though, but i made it through), my clear save is at level 59. I tend not to overlevel myself to keep the challenge high, i privileged job XP with items, i prefer skills to base stats.
Post game i climbed huge bumps in main XP, pursuing some hero fights and the final dungeon.

How difficult is the platinum? Are there any chapter specific ones?

If it is easy, I might go back to the game and try to get it while leveling up some other job/class.

The longest part is getting executive hero state 300 points. You have to do a bit of grinding for it.
Otherwise most of the others fell quite easily.
There is no online-related achievement.
I don t platinum my games, but I have one for it.

I didn't really feel there is that much grinding to this one to be honest. I'm way past 300 points at the moment and have a ton more missions to do, and 5 more chapters to do them in! I think most people can easily hit the number just by doing a few every chapter or so. Even the "beat 10 of each enemy" isn't all that tough closer to the end of the game when you get bigger mobs show up.

Speaking of which, I've hit chapter 11, and about 2 chapters to late, we now have a difficulty increase for random encounters. Now I can actually use my good gear and summons a little more freely as some of these dudes actually pose a threat! Did another dungeon run to get Zhao/Cho up to a decent level, almost everyone is mid 40s lvl wise. I think I'll leave it there for now until I hit Sotenbori. Time to hit the casino and do a few more of the side stories...

Job classes is this like FFV?

Dungeon's are essentially this games long fights, they still take place in normal Yakuza related environments. But some can be revisited for XP. You still have 100% human enemies in these. Well, that's not 100% true, but you'll see what I mean ;) You don't fight demons or monsters or anything but if you've played previous Yakuza games you'll know what to expect. Really the only thing that changes is that there is a much wider variety of enemy design and attacks compared to previous games.

I never played FFV so can't comment, but jobs give you unique appearances for the characters in battle and unique move sets for each class as well which come in really handy when trying to deal with some enemies that have specific resistances or weaknesses.

Because the game combat change to turn-based and general changes as more JRPG, the game's pacing does feel a bit different than previous games, at least in my experience. It feels a lot harder to just progress only main story without doing any sort of side activities or other stuff compared to before. Your gears make a huge difference in combat difficulty now, which isn't a surprise I guess.
I am not complaining though since I am having a blast.

Yeah, I've seen people try main lining the story and running into issues later in the game. But on the other hand, my slow run has meant I'm hilariously over powered with some awesome gear! Between needing the cash you get from the business side content and getting some ace summons, materials and unlocking certain shops etc. doing side stuff, its a game that definitely rewards those who dive into the game deep rather than just running toward the next red dot on the map.

When will this get a English localisation?

Grinding is not needed at all if you use buffs and well your jobs to do some strategy fights. I did the chapter 10 boss fight even under level 23 for example. Game has a tons of options for replay imo.

Reception so far has been good to great. Some people would like to beat em up style back, but most people say that this one changes things up in a great way. For me it's really really fun, but I also love JRPGs so there is that too. It's funny to see Persona 5 Scramble being more action rpg like and Yakuza 7 being more turn based RPG...like both of them want to try something inbetween to mix things up which works great in both cases. I guess English version will come out in August/September like always :)

Reception has been positive from what I've seen. Though I know some will still not enjoy the combat switch (which is understandable) but I feel it works well within the game story and design. There are things I'd like to see improved for sure, but I hope the next Ichiban game sticks with this combat and just refines it (its what the team do best after all)
I mean, aside from the combat its business as usual - awesome content, side stories, story, characters etc.

Not really. There's some characters from previous games that turn up, but I can tell you the first 11 chapters have basically 0 mentions to the past games at all. Granted some past characters do turn up, but from what I understand, its not really reliant on playing all 7 previous mainline games first.

From my OP

Q: Where is Kiryu?
A: Play Yakuza 6. Ichi is the new main character at the moment. It's a fresh start for the series.

Certain things are from past games but they are not important and just a "Ahhh that is this dude" moments. You could finish 1-6 in under 100 hours (without doing any side activites or not many) so there is that too if you want to experience the past story which is great. 0 is by far the largest of those games.

You mean 5 right? Because from a story or content perspective, 5 is larger and takes longer to finish whether you just mainline the plot or 100% it. 0 is the next longest no doubt, but I can clear 0 way quicker than 5 in the several runs I've done on both.

I'm a bit ofa completionist so I wouldn't be able to help myself in getting most of the side stuff done or at least doing 50%. I have never platinumed these games however, beat FOTN recently and it was ok but definitely not as good as the Yakuza games. I was just a fan of the anime movie.

Currently playing Judgment and enjoying it but it's gonna be a long game. Only reached chapter 2 and chapter 1 was really long. I like it but it seems to have less RPG elements than even Yakuza. There's no equip screen for example. Combat seems alright but overly complicated with the wall running attacks.
The detective stuff is ok but a bit bland. It's solid for sure and looks very nice. Story doesn't really interest me a great deal so far thoifh

5 took me 10!! hours less than 0s story and I even did all of Harukas battles. :) 5 is really short imo if you just do the main stories. It's funny how howlongtobeat has 5 at the top with 41 which took me way less than that. Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are also 10 hour games for me for just the story, but I am also someone that reads quicker and skip to the next textbox immediately except for bigger cutscenes which I see the first time. Just wanting to say that streamlining them all (I did 0-6 in less than a month with only having two free weekends too) and I loved it. So it's definitly possible.

Well then don't even think about the old games and just play 7 when it releases because otherwise you won't ever get to 7 till the next year lol.

Judgement is great. You are only at the begining of the game so what do you expect? Those games take a bit time to take off and Judgement is worth it absolutely. Also ignore the wall running and just fuck the mobs up with crane style. Nothing else needed.

Strange, 5 always takes me way longer no matter how I play. Though I reckon that's down more to how I play (I tend to walk rather than run...) and 5 just had so much stuff to do even just in the main route.
Then again I rarely do story runs, I tend to do 100% runs, which take... a while! Well, except the original Yakuza (not Kiwami) which I can 100% in less than 20 hours.

Im most of the way there on the attributes, its another one of those things that you'll nail if you play a completionist run on the game as the mini game completion stuff gives you tons of extra points for that stuff. Can't wait to get to the side story eventually! I'll hopefully get some serious playtime on the game over the weekend.

I spent an extra 5 hours i think searching for lost people around and fighting "the tens" of people to reach it, because of course, the active batches i got were from enemy types that didn't want to appear because i just don't have luck, like the men with the folded belt in the korean district.
I lost also a lot of time trying to reach cheerful 10, because i didn't know the nigi nigi family was respawning ( i thought they were one offs) so i spent hours in batting center to get the 200 homeruns the other batting center stuff and achieving many others pity small things to increase cheerful 10 points at a time. A chore, when i learned about the nigi nigi respawn, i won in 15 minutes what i earned in many hours doing pity small repetitive things.
