You know the drill. 4chan, anonymous leaker, grain of salt, yada yada yada.

This all sounds pretty plausible and detailed which is why I'm posting. Most people don't even know that SRV has been announced and in active development for two-three years now. It's a very particular game to make a fake leak over. Koch Media said it's getting officially unveiled this year so I wouldn't be surprised if it shows at the PS5 Showcase in a few days.

STORY SETUP
  • Continuation of Saints Row 3's plot. Saints Row 4 and Gat Out of Hell got retconned as a crazy in-universe TV show.
  • The plot is about how the Saints become an evil corporate empire similar to Ultor. You are playing as a new protagonist with a new cast to support you as you go against the old Saints cast. Main antagonists are old Saints, but also other gangs. One of them was a motorcycle gang called the Wolf pack. There are some story related choices you can make. For example, you can ally with a gang to go against the Saints.
  • All the old Saints are there except Gat who is kept dead, which is mentioned as part of the reason why the Saints became soulless corporate bullies.
  • The old boss (player character from previous games) now wears a cool looking mask that makes their voice muffled and tactical body armor, so their look is open to interpretation.
  • The game is set in modern Stilwater (the OG city from 1 & 2), but it's been massively expanded. It has way more countryside and new islands.
  • Tone is a middle ground between 1, 2 and 3.
  • There are no superpowers.
  • Game has a thing going on where it feels like you're seeing the old Saints from the perspective of an average NPC. Extreme versions of their SR3 selves basically. Old Saints never cared about hurting innocent people which pays a big role in building the Saints as this evil gang.

GAMEPLAY
  • Character customization is similar to Saints Row 2
  • You can wear clothing pieces in multiple ways.
  • Sliders are there for each body part this time, so you can go all the way in creating weird monstrosities.
  • Dick censorship is changed and this time, it's a black bar that has swinging physics (note from me: Volition actually wanted to do this with SR3 but couldn't because of coding issues and time constraints. Nice to see the real next-gen addition make its way in.)
  • Weapon customization isn't linear anymore like it was in Saints Row 4. You can put on different scopes and camos and switch between ammo types.
  • 4 Player co-op, with difficulty scaling to number of players.
  • Multiplayer will be 32 player freeroam gang warfare with activities like Deathmatch activating dynamically in the world. So you can drive around the map and then get a pop up from the game that invites you and the rest of the players to participate in Deathmatch. If your gang wins Deathmatch, you'll gain small territory as part of a bigger region in this particular lobby. This won't be global, so each lobby will have different territories controlled by different gangs.
  • No destructable environments but physics felt a lot better. For example, ragdolls weren't floaty anymore like in Saints Row 4 and driving felt close to GTA V.
GRAPHICS
  • It's like Saints Row 3 Remastered, but better. Not cartoony at all. No destructable environemnts but physics felt a lot better. For example, ragdolls weren't floaty anymore like in Saints Row 4 and driving felt close to GTA V.
MISC
  • In a playable early state, Volition have invited tons of people from the Saints Row community and some YouTube influencers to check it out who are all under NDA.
  • They might show some trailers this year, but it's coming out in late 2021, or even 2022.

If you want a point of reference, here's how SR3 Remastered looks at 4K.

I love that one of the bulletpoints is about dick censorship tech.

I do love what these leaked notes are saying - better physics system, I hope better driving mechanics, more of a Saints Row 1/2 vibe than 3! Four player co-op would be insane! I love the idea of a new cast going against a corporate version of the Old Saints. Hype and faith restored!

This is in line with what Deep Silver's parent company, Embracer Group, communicated to shareholders: no "AAA" game (product with >$30m budget) in the current fiscal year, ending 31 March 2021, but two "AAA" games in the following year, ending 31 March 2022.
In other words, Holiday 2021 - with room to delay the game to Q1 2022 - would make sense.

Saints Row V delayed to 2021-2022, Dead Island 2 possibly delayed too

Definitely hitting that timeframe. I reckon if we don't get an official unveiling this year then early next year is the play.

So basically a darker Saints Row 2 but still feels like Saints. Also, killing the Saints is gonna hard hard to stomach since we grew up liking them, you have to turn them into real assholes.

I do have to say, retconning SR4 and GofH as some in-universe TV show is kind of genius.

Saints row 4 went too completely out of left field so I'm glad it's getting retconned, bring on the Saints

I really really love Saints Row 1 and 2. I started to lose my love with 3... and then it went down hill. I hope this one can recapture my love for the series.

I understand them wanting to pull back from the extreme lengths of SR4, but I hope they keep the crazier action elements of SR3. The last thing Saints Row needs is to be a generic open world third person shooter.

I loved SR4 but I'm glad it's being retconned. I hope the tone has a nice middle ground between 2 and 3.

I liked Saints Row IV but I don't mind the setup if this is true. Great way to shake things up that isn't just an escalation of what Third and IV did. We'll see if it pans out.

A Saints Row going back to it's roots is what I wanted ever since they added super powers and it went over the edge.

Look, at this point I’m will to take whatever Volition is willing to give me for SRV.

The new direction sounds great, though.

Hoping that no superpowers is true. I disliked the direction they were going in. Dialing some of that back sounds great.

Just 4 player co-op is something I have wanted for a long time in Saints Row.
Give it to me!!

Interesting, if true. Man, I fucking love Saints Row, equally. They are all incredible games (each with it's own unique problems)

Considering how "progressive" SRIV was in comparison to the other games (and every GTA game ever) I really fucking hope they stick with that and don't try and pull any "edgy" bullshit.

Going back to SRTT in the remaster with it's constant framing of Sexual Slavery and Human Trafficking as a joke was pretty rough.

And anyone who disliked SRIV was wrong and I refuse to listen any other opinions.

I kinda find Saints Row 3 cartoony to be honest and I really hope this game sticks to be VERY close to that. If it just looks like GTAV that'll be a lil dissapointing to me - I dug the that look compared to hi def realism instead of stylistic.

Sounds like ass. Saints are familia, you can't do 'em dirty like that.

If it's real, it smacks of Volition being pressured to retcon everything that leads to the Agents of Mayhem timeline. I was looking forward to seeing the Saints
possibly taking over a futuristic alien planet that looks not unlike Agents of Mayhem's Seoul with Jezebel and Jane Austen as the new homies
but this just sounds awful.

Sounds good, but I am sad that the characters I liked so much would basically be your enemies now.

Story doesn't sound that great, kind of wished they'd carried on with the story after 4 and gone down the time travel route.

Saints Row 3 and 4's co-op campaign were so good, need more another SR to scratch that itch.
I've played over 100 hours of online co-op in Saints Row 2.
Not nearly as much in SR 3 + 4, but those times would have been so much more if two of my buddies could have joined in.
Man so much fun me and another friend had. Probably one of the best moments I've had with co-op.
