I think the point is to dismantle the notion that they're identical. Bernie's fine with people voting for Warren based on many other factors.
Gonna be interesting to see him reconcile this comment with his book sales making him a millionaire in a single election cycle.

I actually would like to see him say that he's a Democratic Socialist loud and proud. It would be interesting if in differentiating himself like this, the journalist/interviewer followed up and asked him to say what he is so voters can get on board clearly.

I don't get this talking point. He's raising taxes on himself and others.

Existing within a system that you are criticizing is hypocritical. It is known.
That doesn't make you less of a capitalist and Warren also supports raising taxes on the wealthy.

Because shes largely running on the same platform? Those plans arent exactly capitalist.
They aren't really synonymous and yes, he's a Social Democrat (like Warren), regardless of what label he self-ascribes.

Think of it this way, it's such a common sentiment that it became important enough for the interviewer to ask this question to Bernie.
BTW, the media always asks this question to Bernie. It's just the first time he's actually answered it instead of dodging it.
Bernie's a capitalist too. Unless he has a policy of ending private markets and property I'm unaware of.

Yes. She could spin this as a positive and talk about how a properly regulated capitalist structure would work and push against the socialist label and the baggage it has here (though she'd still be considered dangerous for Wall Street and tech monopolists.

Socialism has become such a muddied term in America that it has lost it's actual meaning. The right has been so successful at changing the meaning of the word that even the left have adopted it's new meaning.

Notice how the last one is left field and doesn't relate to the first three?
That's going to alienate most people and drive them toward Warren. I'd wager that the majority of the voting public would favor a progressive capitalist over a socialist.
That quote not only doesn't actually define anything or expand on what he means, he just goes back to his standard soundbite while basically letting Warren be labeled as someone who is able to bring in a more diverse primary base.
