I get why they took the EGS deal, but because they did, they, and you, are going to have to understand that it's part of the conversation.
no.

i was a huge fan of this game when it was announced as I'm a huge fan of factorio. I was pumping it up on twitter and interacting with their devs and everything. EGS turned a 100% guaranteed purchase to a near 0% chance of purchase.

I am still super angry they did it. so hooray to them. instead of getting a 70% cut on $30 they now get an 88% cut on $0.
So wouldn't it be more effective to have a discussion based around it rather than in a unrelated topic (announcing it's early access)? The thread may even be more popular. It just feels like derailing. For example going in a thread of a game that's steam store only (counting any key resellers since it's still locked to steam). "I never want a steam exclusive game again, their customer service never answer my tickets. Horrible experience."

FWIW -

So take that as you will.

Assuming that AB is the daddy, why haven't they fired the people responsible of the AMA in THQ Nordic Gmbh? Or forced Gmbh to take action against them? Since those people are still working there, I assume in a way AB also supports 8chan, or doesn't think what they did was bad. So my decision still stands.

From what I saw in Streams, it is more like 90% Subnautica and 10% Factorio.
Factory buildings and material crafting depth seem to be lacking.
Not sure how it will work late game with big builds and no bird-view.

my guess is, they'll give you access to a drone/camera that lets you manage your base from above. or something. i cannot see how one can reasonably manage all the logistics from a first person perspective, unless they scale it way down.

i'd say its more than 10% Factorio, you do have a lot of supply chain stuff, but its a much slower process to scale, and crafting is pretty tedious as you have to have the materials on your person. I'm not sure why they don't just give you a global inventory and be done with it.

And that's perfectly fine. I posted that for a little more context in the matter regarding THQn but it's perfectly acceptable if you wish to not support THQn, it's superiors, or it's subsidiaries in any way over the 8chan mess.

I agree that THQnAB's silence about all this is extremely damning.

I added something similar to the OP, if anyone decides to not support it for whatever reason they have it's perfectly valid and no one is asking them to change their mind.

Not defending the dudes, but this issue has been already talked on other threads. The company can't just fire the dudes right away because european laws about work does not allow that kind of sudden firings, that's why the late responses and "we are investigating the matter". It's not ideal, of course, but that's how different laws work on different places.

Anyway, just explaining the situation, you are free to take your stand on the matter and that should be respected.

Interesting idea. Pity it has the THQ stink on it. Store exclusive is always going to be a negative to me too no matter which it's exclusive to.

Might buy once it's not Epic exclusive anymore and goes on sale. Don't want to support these devs after contributing on making PC shittier place for everyone by accepting exclusive deals.

Alpha and open beta player here, game got a good foundation. I am going to wait for awhile for it to cook as I got bored pretty fast and went back to the other games in the genre.

Satisfactory looks great, but I really can't support any games involved in shitty exclusivity deals on pc. Not buying it, and I hope plenty of other people are voting with their wallets against this decision as well.

If it ever comes to Steam, I'll be all over this. From what I have watched, this game looks like it could be something special.

Nice looking game. A shame that there's a 0% chance of me buying anything from the Epic spyware shop. Tim Sweeney has lost the plot and I'm not touching his store or any games from devs associated with it.

Pretty interested in this, but I also never really played enough Factorio, so I might just go back to that? Because I'd rather just have a factory building thing than Factory + Survival that this sounds like.

Ha! My first thought as well. I suspect the hate train is too strong around here for this to get much traction.

Legitimate and genuine concerns about an anti-consumer store is not a hate train imo. I do not want to give money to a company who is actively harming the PC market and engaging in snooping and lies, it's bad in the long term for consumers.

The game looks good but I won't be purchasing it because of EGS and it's not because I just want all my games on Steam, I couldn't care less where I purchase my games quite frankly.

It's a shame though because the game looks really interesting, I watched a preview on Youtube of it and I don't often purchase early access but I think I would with this if I had the choice of where to buy it.

Looks interesting. The THQ Nordic thing + no Linux version or GoG release = no buy from me, but good luck to them and I hope you all enjoy it.

Had a blast after playing for like 4 hours yesterday. I'm curious about performance after a huge base is built and when you're playing with friends. It's super addicting though and it has a somewhat unique twist from the typical "survival" game you see. Overall it feels pretty polished for an early access launch, which is refreshing. Can't wait to see what the updates/roadmap looks like.

No one else has been playing this?! Got super addicted last Saturday morning and ended up playing way more than I thought. Got to the point of unlocking oil and had to reconsider the whole base. There's something rewarding/daunting about starting over that these games seem to help facilitate.

I added so much to my base and there's no real hint of performance degradation. There's a few stutters here and there but I'm wondering if it's something to do with the online portion of the game.

I really wanted to play (big fan of Factorio and both Sanctum games), but not being able to buy gift copies for my friends is a dealbreaker.

That feature is coming, but for now if your friend has a PayPal account, you can gift him money on PayPal for him to use on the Epic Store, that's one solution among others.

I never played Factorio, I discovered Satisfactory during the Alpha Weekend, I really liked it, so I bought the Early Access. I'm really enjoying it, it's a bit of a spaghetti mess for now but it will get better :D

Very excited for what this game can become. I got Alpha access and played the game for 7 hours straight.

Yeah, I'm not going to PayPal money to three of my friends just to play a game.

You should definitely check out Factorio though. Starting with a spaghetti mess and then destroying everything just to build it up from the ground is half the fun. Especially if you're playing with the whole bob's and angel's mod package.

This game will be huge with streamers I think.
I think it will too, but largely because Epic is paying streamers to promote games. That's their answer to sales, the "visibility".

The game itself does look neat, but from the looks of things I'd be better off playing anything from Factorio, to Subnautica, to TerraTech, at least in the meantime. The Early Access Store exclusivity is a blessing in disguise for the eventual release on Steam, it will at least have some feature-completeness going for it.

So, I came in here hoping people would be comparing it to similar games.

Factorio is closest? While not exactly the same, I also enjoyed Frostpunk a ton.

Are there any other recommendations?

I've put in close to 15 hours so far in two separate worlds - the only thing holding this game back for me is all of the bugs. When it works it's great.

Factorio is still the king. Or you can try that old use to be a minecraft mod but is a game fortresscraft evolved. Though I didn't get far in it, but that is 3D and has liquids/gas.

I've been playing this a decent amount the last few weeks. I've got oil power, and am about to automate computers/heavy frames. I'm generally having a real nice time. It certainly scratches the same itch as Factorio, but the thing that draws me back to this is that I really really like the ability to work vertically by stacking stuff, and getting to walk around everything at ground level and see all the resources flowing is super satisfying to me. Seeing my big line of products going back to my warehouse is super nice.

And doing stuff like venturing super far away into the wilds to get a resource and then carving a path back to your base is a nice fun diversion of adventure to have in the game.

I do think the start of the game is a little annoying when you can't have your power automated. You can automate the production of the biofuel, but still need to manually place them in the burners. That kind of stinks. Once you get coal automatically working, it's much much chiller.

They are adding conveyor elevators in the "experimental" patch today and that's super exciting. I have done some horrible things getting conveyors up to the second level of something. Also a bunch of other neat stuff!

Figure I bump this one more time before giving up on discussing this game here, lol. There's a new experimental patch that adds Nuclear Power, and then stuff for making Aluminum products, level 5 belts, and level 3 miners. Lots of stuff with new levels of steps required in a production chain.

Seeing the setup required for Nuclear Power has me really excited to get it all set up and that there's still a ton left for me to do in the game. I'm just about to have super computers automated in game, so the next update adding several new, rather complicated, production lines to the game is really nice.

Managing the radiated stuff seems like an interesting new wrinkle. I could see it being annoying because there will be radiation both from the buildings where uranium things are getting made and from the belts the products are traveling on, but I at least like it as a new thing to make setting stuff up harder. Also it won't bother me that much, since I've always got to have my full line set up before I start the resources flowing. Also having to store nuclear waste is a neat idea. It doesn't look like it comes out fast enough to be a true bother, but you will need to have somewhere to put it.

Seeing this thread for the first time, but THQ Nordic AB is responsible for THQ Nordic Gmbh's antics. THQN AB and its owner Lars Wingefors made a half-baked apology but did not fire anyone responsible for the 8chan fiasco. They're complicit, and it's hilarious seeing Coffee Stain try to suggest they're with the "good" THQN.

It's very good. Admitted, I didn't max out the tech when I was playing, but that's because I wanted to save something for the full release. I really enjoyed how the world is in no hurry, so you can set a factory building something as efficiently as possible or just let it chug away while you head out exploring. It's got a surprisingly large hand-built world and mapping it out means that, when the time comes, you know where the more esoteric resources are. Of course, "exploring" also means "I'm taking a ton of resources and building my way to the top of a rocky spire just to see what's up there".

And then when you get several tech layers in and look around you realize that everything you built was scaled for much smaller production and needs to be razed and reconfigured from scratch, and while not technically "fun" the sense of, yes, satisfaction you get when the machines are efficiently humming along at last is absolutely worth it.

So yeah, great game. :)

Isn't talking about the EGS deal derailing threads?

Game looks neat. I wish I had someone to play with.

I'm around 100 hours and I've completed the current implemented tech tree and still love it a lot. So now I'm just burgeoning up the lower parts of my production line. Taking a long time to set up some complicated system, but then being able to let it run and have that thing taking care of feels so nice.

Also, the trains specifically feel so rad to watch pull into your stations and unload. I just love it whenever I see it as I'm off doing something else.

Hahaha, that is a great trailer. I think I finally need to jump in on this game. Wonder how soon that Steam switch will be?
