Scarlett Johansson admits her comments on trans roles was tone-deaf. Continues to support and "believe" Woody Allen.

I don't know what tone-deaf means in this regard? Is that supposed to be an apology. Just say you fucked up and you were wrong, won't happen again.

Anyway. It was trending this morning. Lock if old.

It's something I guess.

I get why someone wouldn't want to think poorly of someone they have a good relationship with but Allen's past is pretty well known at this point.

This was her statement about the trans gender role

“In hindsight, I mishandled that situation. I was not sensitive, my initial reaction to it. I wasn’t totally aware of how the trans community felt about those three actors playing—and how they felt in general about cis actors playing—transgender people. I wasn’t aware of that conversation—I was uneducated. So I learned a lot through that process. I misjudged that…. It was a hard time. It was like a whirlwind. I felt terribly about it. To feel like you’re kind of tone-deaf to something is not a good feeling.”

But she's given herself two options there. Either:

She thinks that Dylan Farrow's a liar and Woody Allen's innocent.

Or

She believes her but still wants to be friends with a sex offender.

The Hollywood establishment still love Woody right? I guess she doesn't want to rock the boat and anything she says now instead of just playing dumb to begin with will go down like a lead balloon.

What the hell is it with Woody that makes people want to stick by him? I remember back in the 90's when Howard Stern would have Stuttering John go around and ask celebrities what they thought of Woody and OJ, and rarely ever would anyone say anything negative about either of them.

Oh, my my my--I simply forgot she's not a politician! She is *incapable* of lying about how she feels.

It's a word used heavily by alt-right shitbags when talking down to "snowflakes."
Oh, I know it can be used that way. But it's also used genuinely, and I'm pretty sure this is such an example. The alt-right typically accuses people of being "triggered"; describing something as serious as the Woody Allen situation as "triggering" makes perfect sense.

Shoutout to her for admitting her trans comments were tone deaf.

She takes another L for supporting Woody Allen tho. You know who that man is. Stop fronting.

The thing is that for as much as I think her statements here are idiotic this is one of the few times in modern pop culture where I think it's being used in a halfway-reasonable manner. Palling around with sex pests like Allen and acting like nothing is wrong is absolutely a trigger for people with rape and sexual assault traumas, because many people saw their own abusers being treated the same ways by others.

Unless you think there are absolutely no defensible arguments whatsoever in favor of his innocence in the most egregious accusations against him, it’s hardly weird that his friends and coworkers would stand by him.

listening to a few podcasts and stuff about actors talking about movies in general (not Allen specifically) I think theres a certain chunk of Hollywood actors who grew up watching Woody Allen movies and maybe got into acting because of them, and had a dream of working with him on a movie. I guess similar to Alfred Hitchcock, Kubrick, or modern era Christopher Nolan, Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, etc. So attacking him is not that much different, in their minds, to attacking their career aspirations and dreams.

I've never seen a Woody Allen movie, they always looked way too talky / boring / elitist / New York-y to me but I can understand how people who loved the craft of movies/directing/acting might worship him, similar to how me and my friends worshiped Patrick Stewart or George Lucas for being sci fi icons.

“Triggering” is a bad word? There’s nothing in her statement making it seemed like she used it in a deceitful way. This isn’t the same thing as Trump’s son naming his book “Triggering.” We know what he means.

You can just say "upsetting" or "alarming" or any other dozens of words

She can privately defend Allen if she wants but I don’t really see why she continues to be so public about it. It isn’t helping her at all. I’m glad she’s having some self-reflection on other things at least.

She's acting woke.

She understands the concept, can imitate certain mannerisms, and say some of the words in the correct sequence, but it's like watching her play an international assassin. It's bullshit, and it won't ever not be bullshit despite how much Hollywood wants to sell us on the fantasy.

“I’m not a politician, and I can’t lie about the way I feel about things,” she says. “I don’t have that. It’s just not a part of my personality. I don’t want to have to edit myself, or temper what I think or say. I can’t live that way. It’s just not me. And also I think that when you have that kind of integrity, it’s going to probably rub people, some people, the wrong way. And that’s kind of par for the course, I guess.”

Yeah that's ugh...... That's real brave of you to frame everything this way. She's not sorry for shit guys
