As a Jamaican....nah we tend to lean left...usually because a lot of us experience Poverty until we can change that in a generation or two. But most of the Jamaicans off the island have family still on the island in some sort of Poverty so we in theory can empathize a bit better.
Aren't you from the U.K.? I'm from north London myself and yeah, good luck finding any Jamaican conservatives (or any other PoC conservatives. Most aren't..)

My gf is from the US and her family are from Jamiaca. A few of them vote republican. Apparently it's sort of common. Especially amongst those who are fairly religious.

I'm from Toronto. But Jamaicans have had just a big influence here as they have across the pond.

She dropped out

A Republican candidate seeking to challenge Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) dropped out of the congressional GOP primary race late Monday.

"I am very grateful to the constituents in NY-14 and citizens from across this great nation for their support and words of encouragement," Scherie Murray, a Jamaican immigrant and businesswoman, said in a statement.

"As long as avowed socialists are legislators, you can rest assured I will use my platform to advocate for the kitchen table issues of the toughest, hardest working New Yorkers. This is not the end for Scherie Murray because I will continue to work hard," she added.

Murray suspended her campaign just days after she had filed a lawsuit against a contractor for allegedly making errors while tasked with getting signatures on Murray's behalf.

The federal lawsuit alleges, among other mistakes, that the vendor used a registered Democrat to be the "subscribing witness" for Murray's petition, which violates state law that requires the subscribing witness be a Republican in order to get on the GOP primary ballot, the New York Daily News reported.

That's a pretty fucked up law. She has the right to be mad at the vendor. Of course, if she actually had a chance of winning she should have been able to gather those signatures herself.

Wasn't ever really that concerned about AOC losing her seat. Omar on the other hand could be in for a fight.

I live in AOC's district.

...who was this?

The anti-AOC candidate who's been trying to going ham with ads and shit around here is Michelle Cabreras, I think?

I expect (and hope) AOC will crush her challengers in the primary. This Republican never had a chance in the general anyway. Still one other Republican running, I believe (a retired cop iirc).

Regardless of stance, people want to run to represent others. Should democrats never try to challenge / change traditional R strongholds? Where is the line? When it's down to +5? How do you think an area goes from +29 to +5?
she also ran a terrible anti-labor campaign against a popular socialist candidate in an overwhelmingly democratic district. Even disregarding the numbers she was wasting everybody's time in a working class urban district.

Omar is only in danger of losing her seat in a primary battle, and it's still unlikely to happen (this year, anyway). Every gross, racist/xenophobic rumor about her could turn out to be 100% true and she'd still win the seat by 30 points over any Republican.

Like just to put this in context, in 2018 she won her seat in the general election with 78% of the vote. Her Republican opponent only got 22%.

So this means AOC is running unopposed now right? I don't think anyone else is going for the GOP nomination, and while I do remember someone challenging AOC in the primary they're likely a non-factor.

Her primary challenger has a lot of big $$ support from the usual corporate Dem suspects.

Remember when conservatives tried to use this against her? Like, someone legitimately thought this would ruin her or at least bring her reputation down. Absolutely insane.
Conservatives tried to discredit Obama for ordering Dijon mustard on his sandwich at a restaurant. When you don't stand for anything that benefits the average person of the country, it's all you have.

I wouldn't say fucked up but it is wrong. Sure in theory you want to avoid tampering by the rival party but there are simply better ways to influence people, it's not hard for a political party to vet candidates, and these parties frequently use RINO's and DINO's to a degree that if you are really concerned about loyalty to the party this isn't a serious litmus test for it.

AOCs biggest challenger is the Corporate boot scum lickin Republican disguised as a Democrat. CorpoDems want all non-white people to be both woke AND broke, I hope her campaign fails hard.

This person won't beat her either.

The main problem, aside from the fact that AOC supports/represents modern progressive positions in a way that people can understand...is that people actually like her in NYC. People would be better off trying to pirate some of her positions and working within the system elsewhere in the 5 boroughs, rather than trying to challenger her in her district, lol.
