Meanwhile in Atlanta... lol. Mariners winning for a change. Good idea. Every team should do this.

bet a stupid number of people will get the first shot (convenient) and skip the second (less convenient) if they go moderna.

So now you can't even go to a ballgame without being reminded of a deadly pandemic at every turn. This is nuts.

People are getting vaccines just fine on their own time. Can we please have some places set aside where we can get a respite from being constantly reminded of depressing world events?

Washington state still has a mask mandate, and King County where Seattle is, is likely getting bumped down a phase later today due to our increased Covid infection and hospitalization rates. You have to wear a mask at the game, and only 9,000 people (which will likely be decreased today) are allowed to attend in distanced pods of six people or less.

You want to go out in public in the Seattle area and do stuff? You're gonna be reminded of our current reality. You want an escape from the reminders of the pandemic? Stay home where you don't have to wear a mask.

It's a clever idea, though I'm pretty concerned this suggests a bunch of the people showing up to sports matches won't be vaccinated yet. Doesn't matter they just got their shot if the game turns into a super-spreader event.

They're already coming to the games, there is nothing preventing them from buying a ticket, so giving people more easy options doesn't hurt.

True, it's not like they chose between this and rapid testing at the gate. It's definitely better than nothing, and it sounds like they're still taking pretty strict distancing measures and keeping the numbers low.

The Philadelphia Inquirer was reporting on how it wasn't as popular in Milwaukee as officials there thought it might be, in part because most people already had the vaccine (and so in Philly they probably aren't going to start doing it at Flyers and Sixers games): https://www.inquirer.com/health/cor...e-phillies-sixers-flyers-gritty-20210503.html. Apparently they only gave 71 vaccines in Milwaukee. Still, every vaccine matters.

This is really cool. Put the vaccines in front of people where they want to be anyway.

Eventually we're going to have to play out incentivize people to get vaccinated but this is a great start.

Great, that's the best outcome then. Make the vaccine available basically everywhere to the few stragglers, but let it be a moot point already for the vast majority. Up the social pressure and don't give anyone who wants to re-enter society a flimsy excuse to drag their feet.

Imagine having to sit through an entire baseball game just to get vaccinated. Hardly worth it.

Ok in all seriousness that's a pretty good idea. Not a fan of baseball (obviously), but if it helps get people to get vaccinated all the power to them.

THat's amazing.

I was thinking that NASCAR races would also really be effective, a population that is probably more vaccine skeptical than the average, and one that has hundreds of thousands of people there on a given race weekend. They're open air, pretty safe, and usually have huge concourse areas. An ideal spot for J&J. Imagine if you did something like... if you come in on Saturday and get your J&J dose, then you get a voucher for $10/off your sunday race ticket.

Read a tweet thread yesterday about this doctor who had doses left, like 100 extra doses, that had to be tossed or dealt with, and after exhausting all avenues through doctors offices, arranged to go to a local gas station and convenience store and sat there giving vaccinations to anybody who walked in the door and wanted them, got something like 25 or 30 people according to this thread. Which... suggests we're not doing enough to get to some communities. Like, these folks are willing enough to get a vaccine at a convenience store so they're definitely not vaccine skeptical or hesitant, but getting to a clinic, mass-vax site, doctors office, etc., is enough of a hurdle.

Apparently there were 83 given out at the Sounders game (the Seattle soccer team which plays across the street from the Mariners). Agreed that every bit helps.

Mets and Yankees are too, plus a free ticket!

The New York Mets and New York Yankees will offer free ticket vouchers for hundreds of fans who get vaccinated at their respective stadiums, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) announced Wednesday.

Cuomo also said that, starting May 19, the two MLB teams will divide their stadiums into separate sections for vaccinated and unvaccinated fans. Vaccinated fans can sit close to each other in sections at up to 100 percent capacity, as was the case before the coronavirus pandemic, while unvaccinated fans will have to maintain six feet of distancing in sections of no more than 33 percent capacity.
