I'm amazed that *this* is the issue some in his party are suddenly ready to stop carrying water for Trump over.

They may understand the significance of allowing the POTUS to just use emergency powers for anything. If a Dem takes office in 2020 you know damn well they will do the same for health care or whatever and the GOP will not be able to stop it.

They'll do everything in their power to reduce or eliminate Presidential powers in November/December/January leading up to a Democrat taking over as President. It's in their playbook as of late, see: Democrat governors taking over in Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina after last year's elections. Not all of them went through, but they damn sure tried (and succeeded in some cases).

they can't. they don't have enough in the Senate, and the Dems have the House.
