Well, if it's an exclusive extended gameplay demo, doesn't that imply that there'll also be a non-extended demo?

Possibly. Or they just added "extended" to make it sound more special. Given that E3 is about a month away and Square has a marketing deal with MS, I just find it highly unlikely that they'd debut a gameplay demo to the general public right now. Seems much more likely that the demo would be saved for the MS conference.

These people jumping to conclusions man, I don't get you. Did you actually believe it would completely go back to its roots while we're still in the trilogy? Clearly it's building on top of 2013 and Rise. We can hope the balance between action and exploration is still good and hopefully more time inside these tombs and temples.

Expecting anything else was only setting yourself up for a disappointment

Nobody was expecting anything, it's just sad to see different studios partaking a pissing contest on the corpse of one of the greatest characters in gaming. Imagine if, after Other M, Nintendo decided to double down and make all the following Metroids in the same vein of that game, just progressively worse.

I thought Rise of the Tomb Raider started off really well, but I wish the rest of the game had pushed the survival aspect of the game play more as it seemed to at the beginning.
Likewise on survival. Going by this trailer though maybe they're ditching the survival motif and going full guerrilla war fighter. The mud covering seems to be an actual gameplay thing too according to scans.

A normal life... which is something the games dont even really focus on.

She's all about honoring her father. Like seriously.
How are we supposed to care about her sacrifice. She clearly doesn't.

It certainly continues a trend in these games where the characters just say things and expect us to believe them. The script quality and line delivery also does them zero favours.

Man I am diggingLara'ss new look. Not so keen on her turning into the predator and I wish they just cut a load of the shoot bangs, this isn't ghost recon.
But it looks like they may be bringing back lost civilisations and mystical bullshit.

The gameplay is coming later today. We were always gonna get both. The CG trailer at 4pm CET and the gameplay sometime between 10-11pm CET during the Tribeca thingy. Microsoft just jumped the gun on the CG trailer it seems.

Who knows what her face looks like, from marketing to CGI to game play, they all look different. I wish they would settle on the Rise look and her more natural body type instead of skewing to the old super human perfection doll.

So now Tomb Raider is about stealth kills and torture porn? I mean, having played the past 2 games I know that it sounds like a rhetoric question, but I didn't think they'd advertise the new game showing those two things only.

I feel so angry I knew I shouldn't have bothered watching it, but damn it.

Ehm, it's been that way for a while.

It's awkward here because there's a lot of story that's happened in the comics. Not that any of that extra stuff is going to help fill out the actual games themselves.

I mean it's an impressive trailer but I would much prefer to see actual gameplay during this reveal, which they've been hyping for a couple of months.

Plus I really don't like the grimdark tone of these new Tomb Raider games. I miss the more lighthearted tone of the pre-2013 games rather than the relentlessly dark and violent vibe of these newer ones.

Will buy it for cheap depending on impressions after release. The reboot does nothing for me sadly.
But then again, with a new developer on board there might be a competent story this time around.

Are those Mayans? Are those ancient Mayans? Did she travel back in time or something? Why is she suddenly jungle Batman?

This has to be the leakiest game I've ever seen.

I liked that we got to see Lara use some of the new gameplay mechanics (mud, underwater, running on walls) but I'm a bit disappointed it was fully CG. Hopefully gameplay is uploaded in a few hours!

Yeah looks bad, glad I don't care for this franchise anymore. Man the old games and the first reboot were good.

I hate when games bring morality into these type of game. She's killed 100s of people, suddenly she's self-aware? Hated the same in Uncharted. Nate kills a tons of people but won't kill someone from the main cast, cause he too much of a hero.

Let's just take a moment to remember our loss:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIWLT0QVPzw

You were wonderful once. I'll miss you ... Goodbye.

Sublime. I mean, I'd like people to pause for a second and to contemplate that once this was the kind of music that players expected from a Tomb Raider game. They were games with beautiful, distinctive soundtracks, art direction, unmatched level design and a protagonist whose only equivalent in gaming is probably Samus, though Lara gradually became much more of a proper character. The writing was always charming, she was witty and self-confident, highly educated. A proper role model for possibly millions of people around the world.

Now she's just a depressed copycat.

Looks like they're trying to show us that you can engage multiple enemies at once with many different attacks. Interesting

Hoping for more Tomb Raiding and less gunplay. Played the last one on Gamepass and it is actually a solid game, if they did not have so much run and gun. Also looks stunning on 1X, so I expect this new one to look good also.

She fought undead samurai, a dead Japanese goddess and a witch before.

Right but that wasn't a whole city of a seemingly untouched ancient civilization full of a massive crowd of cheering masses. Like how is this supposed to be a thing that exists? The only explanation that makes any sense is that she's somehow a time traveler or something which is dumb as hell.

I already like this Lara better then the one we had in the last two games.... yes.... so digging the dark vibes and atmosphere.

Hope the day won't end before we see the gameplay demo.

Given the emphasis these games place on story it is really dumb to pawn off this stuff to the side.

There are lots of things that happen in the cutscenes of the games, very little of it is character development.

You compare it to how characters are handled in an uncharted game (regardless of ones opinions on the characters) and it is night and day.

Well, it seems that Lara has become a capable murderer.

... but CGI? In this time and age? C'mon.

I'm so done with Laura being a war machine.

It feels so forced and I hate it. And I hate how there's assholes with machine guns no matter where she goes too.

I wish they would go back to heavy adventure puzzles exploration and then some battles.

Uncharted 4 managed a nice balance with its pacing but I feel like tomb raider could have improved upon that instead of tripling down in mindless action. =(

They had villages and underground areas filled with undead soliders in Rise, an entire half of an island in the first filled with them. But yes, this is too far. Lol

Here we go again with the Lara is a mass murderer. Meanwhile Atreus in God of War cries over his first kill and goes on killing everything but doesnt get any criticism.
That's ... actually a good comparison and you're right.

I never got the hate that the recent Tomb Raiders get. I find them to be pretty damn good. I would say that it's one of the biggest influences on God of War, more so than any other Dark Souls, DOOM or Last of Us comparison I see.

Even in the first game the island had a magical barrier that prevented ships from leaving once they got too close and would also destroy rescue planes that got too close. This universe is as stylized as Uncharted where you don't really question the logistics.

The marketing team could go help with the level design or scripting, instead of focusing on making a cgi trailer

Yeah, the movie was much better in that regard. Lara pretty much has a breakdown after killing one person.

Surprised they haven't leaned more heavily on that, especially as Lara's face looks more like Alicia Vikander's now.
