Cave sale on Steam for the Cave Matsuri: https://steamcommunity.com/games/464450/announcements/detail/3274556289204908785

It's time for Cave's annual festival, the Cave Matsuri, held in Akihabara, so we're having a sale to celebrate!

You can read all about Cave Matsuri on the official site here: https://promo.cave.co.jp/event/matsuri2018/special

And there's plenty of things happening to read about:

A live stream of Dodonpachi Resurrection from the Akihabara Alienware Store on Friday 19th 18:30 to 20:30 (JST) broadcast here[www.twitch.tv].

M2 will be talking about their new Cave ports and ketsui will be available for play on the PlayStation4 (with special gifts too!)!

There's also merchandise, such as ketsui 15th anniversary items[promo.cave.co.jp], and a bag covered in Cave game logos[promo.cave.co.jp].

^ Yeah, it was annoying before. ZeroRanger is one of my most anticipated games of the year. I love the spritework and color palette. I'm also looking forward to the above Ninja Soldier.

It seems that Flyhigh Express announced in their last streaming that the incoming 'Fairune Collection' coming to Switch will include the two original games, a new prequel with the name of 'Fairune Origin', and the most interesting thing in the package... 'Fairune Blast', a shmup spinoff of the series.

All of that said, good luck finding any footage of the game, in theory it appeared in this streaming. But I have no patience to find the exact minute.

And man, 'ZeroRanger' looks impressive. I'm also into the hype train with this game.

Nice! I love Psyvariar. Psyvariar 2: the will to fabricate was the first title to get me into practicing shmups and it ended up being my first 1 credit clear (including being able to unlock bonus stage gluon).

I'll definitely be nabbing this to check out the new mode

It should be noted that this is the second 'Psyvariar' title announced for Nintendo Switch, with the other one being 'Psyvariar Restoration'.

The good thing of 'Psyvariar Restoration' is that it's developed by City Connection, they are specialists in updating classic games with a new modern flavor. They previously released in Switch the new version of 'Penguin Wars' and 'Soldam: Drop, Connect, Erase', both are amazing titles with great production values and a great design.

The bad thing is that it already exists a game with the same name, 'Psyvariar Restoration', released for mobiles, and the game looks horrible.

We still need to see screenshots of the Switch version of this new 'Psyvariar' game. But giving that City Connection is behind this release, I hope to see a highly upgraded and remastered version of the phone game.

I'll get it wherever but I really do hope we see M2's game on Steam. Seems like an obvious new field for them.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations, went with Dragon Blaze but will eventually get most of them (you cant trick me sol divide i have heard how booty you are). Still debating on grabbing the M2 ports on my xbox as opposed to waiting for Steam. I also have a very strong itch for some R-Type right now that may need scratching.

'Zed Blade' starts in the easy side. But its latest level is something. The most devilish level that I have found in a shmup in a long time.

I credit-fed the game to see all of the levels, and man, there is no way that I can complete this last level in my entire life.

Now I'm starting to understand the legend surrounding NMK's games as some of the hardest attempts in the genre :)

I will probably try to do a 1CC run by reducing a couple of levels the difficulty.

I continue my story of suffering with 'Zed Blade' this month.

I have learned how to create save states in the Hamster releases, that is the most unintuitive thing because you are forced to return to the main selection menu of the rom to load the state, something that is not specified in the user manual, and good luck not deleting your save state if you try to use the option to restart the game, or for a mistake you upload a high score, but whatever...

I'm trying to complete the game in the Normal mode, by not losing a single life and by only using the bombs in the most extreme situations. Giving that there are so many fire options and combinations, in some parts and depending on your selection of weapons at the start of the game, you are forced to use the bombs. I'm looking at you, rock barriers in the level 4.

And I'm trying to only use two save states in each level. Once at the start of the level, other before every boss.

I'm currently in the level 5 boss.

And I need to say that NMK was a company managed by psychopaths.

There is a point in which they decide that if you have too many lives, you may have a wrong impression of the game being too easy, fucking bastards.

So they included a rank system, with two different balances.

If you have 2 lives left, the game will use a normal and well balanced layout.

But if you have 3 or more lives, they will introduce new elements to try to drain your lives in the most demented ways.

Can you see this only empty space to dodge a curtain of bullets? You are fucked up, once you take this path, they will introduce a ship coming from nowhere shooting unavoidable bullets in this empty space that looked like the safest path.

Because the hit box in your ship is fucking gigantic.

And the end, the best way to complete the game with a 1CC is simply studying the most fucked up parts in its design, and using the bombs in these parts.

The game is generous giving you extra lives and extra bombs, so with a good management of your bombs and live stock plus tons of memorization, I can see a 1CC something achievable.

But this game is also a showcase of how much these classic arcade shmups were designed under the idea of taking your coins, contrary to the console exclusive shmup releases with perfect, challenging and never-unfair balances such as 'Eliminate Down'.

There are no hard and fast rules of course, just that to me the experience is much closer to something like Berzerk. The pacing, room-by-room structure, and "shoot where you're facing" control scheme.

Just announced at the Cave Matsuri 2018 stage show:

New mode announced for PS4 Ketsui called "IKD 2007 Special" Mode, which appears to be possible DLC. Changes include only 1 loop for the real final boss. I didn't quite catch the other differences from the arcade version.

Gadgets unveiled include: Score, player info, Real-time multiplier information, Damage percentage meter, Bullet Counter, and Boss timer. Stage map, music info, and they teased that another gadget will be revealed in the future.

As far as the soundtracks go, they announced the Matsumoto Daisuke BGM Arrange version.

No release date yet, but there will be a physical version.

Love ketsui and will sadly get it for the new mode (plus it being m2), but I really wish it were something that hasn't had a recent port

I already own the ps3 version and region locked 360 version :/

Yeah, I'm only getting Ketsui PS4 because I never got it on PS3 or 360. It's actually a very disappointing choice for the ShotTriggers line. Have said this before but really wish they had gone with another Raizing title like Batrider or Bakraid or a Cave game which never got a home port like the original ESPRaDe. Hopefully the next ShotTriggers release will be either a release which never had a home port or at least one that hasn't been ported in many years. Also hope their next choice doesn't take as long to get a release date as Ketsui, feels like it's been almost a year since they announced it.

Yep. If the Shottriggers line were more slapdash like Hamster's stuff (they do good work, don't get me wrong) then I'd be cool with the wide net approach and including ports of things that are already easily accessible, but given that this line has a good amount of effort put into the titles and has a more curated feel, (90s) arcade exclusives should definitely get priority, IMO. Or at least more obscure/inaccessible Cave games.

I'd like to see a line that focuses on emulating/porting/remaking old Japanese computer shmups, but that's a niche in a niche in a niche.
