Another terrible tragedy.

18th school shooting this year. "2nd Amendment, arm the teachers, make guns easier to carry so we can stop shooters wild west style."
"It's a mental health issue."
Cut funding for mental health treatment.
"Thoughts and prayers. Translation: I can't be bothered to put a thought towards a solution, but pray it doesn't involve taking my gun away."

Half of the population either doesn't give damn, or actively working towards making shit worse. What, realistically, can sane people do at this point? Or are we just fucked?
Move? No joke. Otherwise we just live with it as we've been doing. I mean of course we'll all keep voting and convincing our friends and family to vote and sharing on social media how bad guns and mass shootings are.

But then you realize that there's this enormous population you'll just never ever reach. After that you realize that no matter who you vote for they'll all be pro 2nd amendment just in differing degrees.

18 mass shootings in a month and a half to start the year. Fucking christ.
School shootings ≠ mass shootings. There is way more mass shootings

Also the 18 number includes suicides and incidents without physical injuries.

Not that I disagree, but I see these numbers strewn around without people really understanding them, it's an easy setup for organizations like the NRA to blame the media/left for dramatizing the numbers.

So the shooter's instagram has pictures of him wearing a MAGA hat with a scarf/handkerchief over his face.

Will media call this what it is? White supremacist terrorist?
They'll call him a politically active young American whose ideas and beliefs we should take a moment to consider.

As every one of these shootings happens and we see the same tired "thoughts and prayers" responses I lose a little bit of hope that anyone in the GOP will have the sense and decency to implement any one of the many simple ways to combat these horrible, unique tragedies. It just feels more and more hopeless as the total death toll to mass shootings steadily rises day after day yet nothing happens

There needs to be change, these needless tragedies are completely preventable

This one is close to home for me.

I live in Boca Raton and this happened around 30 minutes away from us.
My cousin who goes to school in coconut creek told me there was a kid at his school that had a picture of a dead body sent to him by his friend that went to that school... and he was sending it to kids at my cousins school.

What a tragic day. God help the families effected by this

Florida, USA
this makes me worried for copycats during the BP premiere. largest gathering of black people.

edit: as a Florida resident this is crazy. most of the time school shootings here are targeted cases with 1-4 deaths.

17 lives ended in a matter of seconds. Blood is on the hands of every gun nut in this garbage country, not that they care.
Weird logic. That is like saying everyone who was anti government is responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing because the perp was anti-government.

Or anyone who drives the same car as this kid is responsible.

The only one responsible is the kid that pulled the trigger and maybe the parents, the influences in the kids life, the lack of support for mental health issues in this country, etc...

Hey guys it's the schools fault it got shot up. It's too early to talk about gun control.

Are you kidding me? Schools should be worried about kidnapping and idiots fighting each other with fists. They shouldn't have to worry about one of their students having access to a gun and murdering/injuring dozens of students!
And not even that, there are already usually armed police at these schools.
God thinking about that is crazy. Most we had when I went to school was a scanner and that was mostly so they had an excuse to take your phone.

it's nothing like those things

I suggest at least 3 (vetted, trained,) armed guards at every public school K-12.

Trump is not going to do shit about gun control but I think this option would be better than doing nothing.

And the fact that he could get hold of a gun. Don't forget that part.

The people who push for and support a culture where guns are as easy to get as a bag of chips are also responsible.

I really hope not. And you know if this happens the GOP won't even be offering thoughts and prayers.

It's a mental health issue they say yet they made it easier for people with mental health issues to get guns.

it's a regular semiautomatic rifle. it isn't some super 100 bullets a second death machine. it's legal in every state. but nobody cares in this country, they'll sell anything to anyone, life is cheap and money is king.
True then that shouldn't be available widely. That said the bolded is so sadly true in this country.

i can't believe so many of these guys still use the "thoughts and prayers" line. like, they don't even care enough to change up the wording and pretend like they're being sincere. just no effort whatsoever.

And the incidents of beatings and killings at the hands of school guards will rise exponentially.

More cops isn't going to solve anything. And you know it'll be shit people with shit training who end up in those positions no matter how good intentions are.
