Yeah. After the ganados every game just got worse with the standard enemies and their design. Like Revelations and 7 literally had puddles of goo as enemies with some teeth and claws int here. Like they just copy pasted some parts of the final Birkin form and made them standalone monsters. RE6 and REV2 tried zombie-like enemies, but their movement, the tactics and threat level just made them cannon fodder at best.

This fanatical obsession with getting away from zombies is one of the worst aspects of post RE4. Better KI and good level design is key to make Zombies better, not adding tentacles and Nails in their designs.

Town adjacent to Silent Hill
Resident Evil doesn't need zombies. The series has enough creative people behind it to not have to lean on boring zombies as a crutch. I can't be the only one who's no longer surprised or intimidated by zombies in games. We know their rules and how they work, and that predictability and lack of mystique makes them as interesting as a cave full of Zubats. The Alien franchise is kind of in a similar boat to me. The xenomorph worked best when it was an unknown threat where you didn't know what it was and what it was capable of, but subsequent iterations in the franchise felt like going through the motions. Probably why Aliens decided to compensate for it in volume, and by moving away from the horror tone.

When I think about my time with Resident Evil, the most memorable moments were with the bombastic bosses, the dogs jumping through the window, the parasite bursting out of the villagers, the lickers, the stalker enemies like Bakers or Nemesis, etc. When I think of the worst parts, it's having to waiting for zombies to get back up, waiting for zombies to slowly walk to the right side of a hallway so you can slip past the other side, or playing that annoying "will this corpse get up as soon as I walk past it" song and dance when passing zombies on the floor. If Capcom said they were never doing zombies again, I wouldn't even miss 'em.

Go wild with the mutations. Human zombies are played out and not scary at all. If you want to have humans, at least make them faster and smarter.

I don`t really mind if RE8 won`t have classic Zombies in it although Capcom did a fantastic job recreating them in RE2.
But I hope the developers get rid of that supernatural, FEAR-Silent Hill-esque approach of RE7. Evil Within did that, Indie-Horror-games do it all the time and I don`t like that in RE`s more grounded univere (at least it was in 1 - CV).

The stereotypical zombie just isn't scary any more. They're very predictable and their moaning and groaning means their presence is known well in advance of actually interacting with them. I didn't feel tense or scared at all in RE2. RE7 was a different story, that was terrifying. I think RE8 should go back to first person and lean heavily on the sadomasicist, people with serious mental issues and unpredictable behavioural patterns. The baker family were fantastic and varied.

I think the presentation is key in inducing fear, first person is king here. Third person/fixed perspective may have worked back in the PS1 days but having third person perspective and a fully movable camera means you can look round a corner and up a the ceiling before ever putting yourself at risk. There is just no tension. The Tyrant was an inconvenience at best.

A main RE game should always be 3rd person with Zombies.

They can do first person with other type of monsters with spin offs.

I think I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't mind the molded again as long as they're expanded on. Just give us more types of enemies and change their looks somehow.

Whatever it is turn up the difficulty by making the outbreak in a town in England where firearms are scarce and mele weapons are in. I don't mind moulded or zombies, so long as it continues being horror.

Yes, Zombies, and no mutants animals or insects, but instead I want a claustrophobic body horror that really explores in scary detail how the bodies of the zombies work. Are there crawling zombie hands? Can a zombie head just lie on the ground but try and mash it's teeth at us? I want zombies that are a head, neck, a shoulder and one arm. That thing crawling towards me would be scary as fuck. I want to have to manage and worry about whether the humans around me are about to turn or not.

After 7 and the remake of 2 I trust them with whatever they want to do

I liked the mould monsters in 7, but idk if I just want them iterated on. If they can find a new kind of enemy or a new spin on zombies or whatever that is interesting then I'm all for it

I just don't want them to pigeonhole themselves into something just because they feel they need to. 7 was experimental in so many ways and ended up being the best game since 4, so I just hope they do what they think is right and don't try to be so slavish to the Resident Evil conventions

Also 7 is perfect as a first person game. I don't understand why people are so against it, especially when people say it translates so well to VR

Honestly, the putrefied human anatomy scares me more than anything, also it's the most fun to shoot at (remember, in videogames only), so yes, i think they should bring the zombies back.

T-Virus Zombies for regular enemies of bust. I'd rather they had just spun off all of the non-traditional zombie stuff like Los Plagas into its own series.

Maybe stick with them as the most common enemy but there should be more original monsters too.
The can add a new twist to the classic zombie trope to keep things fresh, like they did with crimson heads.
Like a new virus makes them randomly mutate or act different.

When it comes to zombie games, all I've ever wanted was a videogame version of 28 Days Later. The infected always scared the shit out of me way more than traditional zombies and London would be a cool setting for a game.

I don't think so but I'd like to see an equally-scary enemy like in RE2 remake. I think they need to continue to evolve, keep the first person view but lose the molded.

Whatever Capcom does, I'm sure it will be great. With RE7 and RE2, they've proved that they know how to make great games.

I didn't like the mold enemies at all so the only way is up if they ditch them.

I will be fair and say that even if I prefer to see the awesome Zombies like the ones we saw in Resident Evil 2 Remake, story wise won't make sense.
These Evil Organizations had come so far to create new monstrosities suitable for Military Wars that they reach a point that their basic army units are humanoid mutans that can use guns with ease, have a very fair intelligent, follow orders blindly and even if they get hurt while fighting combat, the possibility to go mutated and continue fight even more agressive is very high [in other words, the J'avo].
Plus we have the family from Resident Evil 7. This prove the experiments just become even more successful that just a simple host can freely control mutants that have their previous intelligent and being even more dangerous when their reach their final form.
So I need to ask: What next?
I would prefect the next step is indeed a real military force that act like real humans but in reality are just drones for a mutant creature. Then maybe have mutants using armor and weapons like Nemesis. I think the last time I saw something similar of what I thinking was T-ALOS.

No. I like the molded. Their design, their movement and sounds are creepy af. At the moment i play resident evil 7, directly after REmake 2. I am way more afraid of the molded then the zombies. Maybe just have a bit more different types of molded but all in all i really want a second game with that type of enemy.

Yes. They should never have deviated away from them imo. What resident evil was for me was an interactive John Romero movie. I don't mind the odd weird mutation here and there to spice things up. But I never liked the parasite stuff from RE4/5. Or even the goop monsters of RE7 particularly (although they were still better than angry Spaniards)

zombies, while maybe not the most threatening of enemies do serve their purpose as an obstacle. And in the slower paced, puzzle focused entries within the franchise, work perfectly well. I guess it all depends on what RE8 ends up being. Will it be a traditional feeling title with backtracking, puzzles, clues, etc? Or will it be action heavy, drop kicking zombies, with linear progression?

Zombies alone may not serve the latter too well. But if Capcom hopefully stick to the formula they currently have with REmake 2. Zombies are, imo, a necessity.

The Zombies in RE2 really didn't scare me. What DID scare me was the lickers, Mr X, the other major enemy, and the all around panic inducing feeling of resource management and level design.

Don't care what the monsters are. But please keep first person and the RE7/REmake 2 style of puzzles and level design.

The main thing I don't want is loads of enemies with guns, at that point I feel like I'm just playing a military shooter, the kind of thing I usually avoid. When RE4 got to the island and we were dealing with gatling guns it was a step too far for me.

Zombies or other genetic monstrosities are fine though, just avoid turning them into a giant blob with tentacles at the end. William should have been the first and last one of those.

Why not have them be one of many enemies? All the way back to RE1, the zombies only made up a small part of the roster anyways.

Yes, absolutely. Best part of RE is and always has been the classic zombie/others experience peppered with a few additional bio weapons. I would very much like to get back to familiar, plucky specialists fighting through localized apocalypses. No disrespect to 7 and I know it's in the same universe, but it didn't deliver any sort of tone or lore fix for me.

Zombies were a by product of the t virus right?

So really zombies are kind of redundant lore wise?

I don't mind what they do really but the molded are easily the most boring enemy type in RE.

Yes I want zombies like those in RE2 Remake, basically everything similar to it with improved mechanics like hiding behind objects etc etc.

I didn't play RE4 back in the day due to non zombies part of the game. I did play RE5 though but cuz it was more like 3rd person adventure which is a genre I like. I also like Wesker as the villain. His VO was always the best 😀

I find the zombies far scarier than any other RE monster. It's how they move and sway, making human like noises and groans. It's also that they look like dead bloody human.

In RE4 and 5 they lose that impact by becoming too normal looking, acting and sounding.

I find anything like slump monsters too abstract.

Zombies are the perfect fodder for a mix of something else.

Like a lemon twist on a cocktail

Why not both? I wouldn't mind kind of a mix bag of different types, keeps things interesting. One fault of RE 7 is you're just fighting molded the entire game minus the boss fights. Yeah there's a few variations of molded but they're all still the same type. And while they where decent enemy design they got old after a while. RE 2 has zombies, lickers, dogs, whatever those sewer blobs are. I like an assortment of enemies.

YES YES YESSSS!!!

I've been waiting for a mainline RE with Zombies since 3!

The tone of RE diminishes with these hive mind parasite infected humans. Nowhere near as satisfying as Zombies.

Also ditch the first person view, it wasn't good use of the brand.

3rd person + Zombies + Mansions/creepy lab.
First Person or bust.

3rd person is not scary unfortunately.

I think RE8 should be a restart for the franchise - "story wise"
Get rid off all the stupid shit in the previous games and start new. Don't have stupid goo monsters and Weskers and people turning into bone-bats.
I'm not saying "only zombies allowed!" but maybe get away from all the weird hybrids.
This is my feeling as well. Things got WAY off track as far as trying to tell a cohesive story. Now that they're doing these remakes, I think it's time to clean it up a little (a lot). I could see RE7 fitting in the REmake universe way better than in everything leading up to RE6.

I kind of would like to see Ganados again, except you're an unskilled everyman and not a badass like in the games you fought them

That could really change the dynamic with them

I get the idea in therory, but for me, fighting against the molded didn't feel much different between Ethan and a dude who can punch-smash 3 ton boulders when pushed.

Maybe a mix between the two so the moulded look a bit more human that way there can be more of a visual distinction between them. I don't mind them as the main enemy it's just that RE7 didn't really have that many different kinds of enemies so after awhile they just got boring to fight.
