In an interview with Parade Magazine, Weaver -- who portrayed musician Dana Barrett, Peter Venkman's love interest, in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II -- confirmed that she will return for Reitman's film, which has previously been described as a sequel to the original films and not a reboot or continuation of the previous 2016 reboot.
According to Parade, Weaver wouldn't reveal any details about the movie except to confirm that she will play Dana and not a new character. “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver said.

EDIT - Upon reading the article, I'm not sure where the confirmation that Murray is actually for sure in this movie is? Guess we'll find out tomorrow during Ghostbusters Fan Fest.

Eh, not a huge fan of this. I feel like the interesting appeal of this version was that it wasn't going to be GB3, while still being in continuity with the first two films. New characters, new setups, no baggage.

Bringing back the old crew just feels like a rehash. Especially with only three of them.

Time for all the incel idiots to start writing blog posts about Answer the Call being wiped from existence or some nonsense.

Edit: Yes, I'm bitter at people claiming that Answer the Call was somehow the worst Ghostbusters-related thing ever when the franchise already got a miserable sequel in 1989.

The old characters aren’t going to be the protagonists. The kids are.

Ghostbusters 2 was pretty awful. It messed up everything the first did so well.
I thought it was just as good as the first. It loses something from being derivative with the same framwork, but gains from having much better villains. Janosz and Vigo were superb, Scoleri brothers was the best scene in BOTH films imo

Sure, but you know that Murray & Akroyd are going to be the main selling point of this movie now. This stood to be a more interesting film if they either weren't involved, or only appeared in a surprise cameo.

It's the Star Wars sequel trilogy problem. Just by bringing back the original characters, you're taking focus from the new cast & limiting their growth.

I really like the idea that Rick Moranis is the only cast member that they haven't got a bag of money big enough for.

It’s probably just going to be cameos anyway.

Oh my god... someone gets GB2 the way I do. I love you.
