Hello Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae fan(s)! If you're new to the genres, here is a video that will explain everything you need to know about the differences:

Now that we have that out of the way, let's listen to some great music. Share your favorite bands and tracks. In a previous thread I made on the subject I liked to post recent albums that have come out to share all the great stuff that still comes out. Ska didn't totally die in the 90's. For sure. All styles are welcome. I usually listen to more traditional style stuff, but I still love the third wave stuff too. Would be great to have some people who keep up with those new releases to post here too.

I was actually at a Lightyear gig last Saturday, which was like all Lightyear gigs a brilliant evening.

Lightyear were one of my favourite ska-punk bands from the early 2000s and they were always very good live. They've recently started touring again (with less nudity but more panto horse than I remember) and they're also talking about a new album and trying to fund a documentary on the UK punk scene of their era through pledge music.

Unfortunately, they never got the fame they earned. They were one of the first bands signed to Fueled by Ramen (Paramore, The Front Bottoms) but they never made it. They split up long ago, reunited for a couple of shows a few years back. This is a live video from their last show before their break up. I've skipped the first half of the show because they started with their newest record which is mainly pure punkrock (it's great but this is a ska thread ;). They are often described as Operation Ivy meets Weezer and I think that fits them perfectly:

Thanks for sharing. I dig it. Just listening to their album Chris Gentlemens Hairdresser and Railway Book Shop right now. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for their new album if put on out.

Love The Impossibles. Anthology was a favorite me and my friends. Was lucky to see them live at The Globe in Milwaukee in the early 2000s. They put on a great show. Would love to see a new album from them.

Also, I've gotten into listening to the Asian Man Records Catalog on Apple Music since I found one of their old comps (Mailorder for the Masses) on there. Stuff like All Against Authority, The Chinkees, and Link 80.

Yeah, I heard that one. I wish it was a bit longer, but I loved their cover of "Green Hill Zone." I might try and make it my ringtone. Probably to finally replace my ska cover of "Cruel Angel Thesis."

Mailorder for the Masses was one of the CDs I listened to on a loop for almost an entire Summer after I bought it for $1 at Warped Tour in 2002. So that album has some serious nostalgia for me. I do need to listen to more Mailorder is Fun though.

I still feel bad that I haven't really got into a new ska band in so long, but I was glad that I still really liked the Less Than Jake EP that came out earlier this year. They're still my favorite band after all these years.

Yeah, it feels like there haven't been too many new ska bands lately. But I'm thankful Less than Jake is still touring and stuff. Ska really is dead.

Ska's not dead. There's still a lot of great stuff coming out. It can definitely be in a pain in the ass to keep with the new stuff though. The Interrupters are a great newer band to keep an eye on. They have two great albums out.

Well I think I found Kill Lincoln from your recommendations and I really like their Good Riddance EP so I would like to thank you for that. I think one of my big problems with the newer ska bands is not liking the vocals. I would like either something soulful like Glen in The Slackers or Obi from Westbound Train or The Aggrolites. Otherwise, I would like something more pop punk. I do want to find newer bands though. I've seen almost every old ska band by now that I like except Slapstick and Mephiskapheles. I finally got to see Goldfinger and The Specials for the first time this summer which was cool.

thelongestj I also got to see The Specials this year supported by The Selecter and The Beat. Great gig, I was actually surprised how good they all were as some bands I've seen after their heyday haven't held up as well.

Mrs. Skanotto changed their name to Burn It Up, and all their music is on their bandcamp: Burn It Up (Mrs. Skanotto) - Bandcamp

311 released a new album "Mosaic" this summer. I haven't kept up with this band much, but I don't remember them having an album with this much reggae influence, so I figured it would fit well in this thread. I really enjoy this album and recommend giving it a listen.

"What Do You Know About Ska Punk?" recently released a compilation with a whopping 169 ska-punk songs from 169 different artists.
The whole shebang is on bandcamp right here: What Do You Know About Ska Punk? Vol. 2

I have yet to listen to the whole thing, but so far "Last Edition - Last Orders" and "Political Party Crashers - Bombs Explode" have turned me on to them as bands.

Listened to all of the What Do You Know About Ska Punk Vol. 2 and there was some really good stuff in there. Here's three albums I've been enjoying from bands on the compilation.

Slamboni - 150. Probably my favorite band from the compilation. Definitely going to keep an eye what these guys put out in the future.

Plenty of other albums I need to get to. Some other bands I really liked are The Royal Architects, The Hoverrounds, Spred the Dub, The Inverters, The Phonosonics and many more. Definitely a good comp to check out. There's a lot of crappy songs too, but that's to be expected when you have 169 of them.

As for the the Reggae-Steady-Ska.com list, I think I may have found one of my favorite new bands.
