I agree with this, as long as it's not obvious denim material. Depends on the job of course but I wear skinny jeans that aren't actual blue denim with a tucked in collared shirt and look dressed upIf they're not stereotypically denim, I'd say go for it, especially if you have casual in your dress code.
If you value getting better looking jeans then it is totally worth it. As with everything you are paying for the details. Its the same with tech or anything else. Cheap jeans and expensive both keep your ass from showing, but the more you spend you get a better cut, better fabric, etc.
maybe it would help if people kinda visualised what outfits i'd be wearing with jeans? think:
except instead of a tiny skinny little thing i'm a bigger girl. same style/colour of jeans, though
hi! first ever post! i deal with the biggest first world problem: pants don't fucking fit me. i'm a woman who is super pear shaped. i'm a little overweight, i have a small waist, really wide hips, and big thighs. i look cute as hell in like, underwear or whatever! but for the life of me i literally cannot find pants that fit me. if it doesn't have an elastic waist, don't even think about it. if it's straight leg, it's too tight on my thighs. if it's not high waisted, it sits at my widest point and i can't even sit down. if i size up, it balloons around my waist even if it fits my thighs. if i size down, it fits my waist, but squeezes my hips and thighs. if i size just right, it's a combination of too loose and too tight. every day is a living nightmare, existence is suffering
i have one pair of pants that are comfortable and make me look all sucked in and nice: plain, black skinny jeans. coincidentally, i'm also starting a new job next week. the dress code is smart, casual, business attire. i've got stacks and stacks of cute blouses, blazers, collared shirts, whatever. but i don't have a pair of pants to match them with. i'm not a big skirt person either.
here is my question for you, era: is it appropriate to wear skinny jeans in a professional setting? a google search is giving me equal amounts of 'go for it' and 'don't even fucking think about it'. they're nice jeans, not really denim textured, but they're still obviously jeans. fwiw, i like to tuck in most of my shirts and wear some plain heels. good people of era, please help me!!
Jeans are not business casual. Ever.
But you can wear a button down/tie with jeans for a look if your workplace allows it, or for casual Friday or whatever.
But it's not business casual, and we don't need to redefine what business casual means just because some people can wear cargo shorts to work.
Like, this looks good to me. Jeans can put the casual in business casual.
Also haven't women always worn skinny ass jeans? I thought skinny jeans thing was the new thing for men in the last 10 years or so.
All the more reason OP should wait and see.In 2019 America they most certainly are. Business Casual is an ambiguous term that is defined by each company. The HR department should have a policy on exactly what works and what doesn't.
No, skinny jeans are not business casual, and as a woman you will be judged by your peers.
Lmao I love this response. No, skinny jeans are not business casual, and as a woman you will be judged by your peers.
BTW, people are saying the right skinny jeans can pass off as trousers, but that's less the case when you tuck your shirt in which you said you plan to do.

Jeans are absolutely business casual
Jeans and a button down with a tie? That's some midtown uniform if I ever heard one.
You can get stretch chinos. I 'd recommend having a look for some in a slim-fit (look for measurements based on your thigh-size), speaking as someone whose wardrobe contains a number of pairs of pants that are so loose at the waist they look like they'd fall straight off without a belt, yet are stuck in place due to being stretched over my thighs. I'm also Australian so I know that we have access to this textile technology, but unfortunately the only brands I can recommend are menswear.a few people have recommended chinos so far. i've tried lots of different pairs of chinos on, no bueno. the material is usually too thick and canvassy; they are WAY too tight around my thighs, if i can even pull them over my thighs at all. they also sit really low on my hips/stomach, so i can hardly sit down without them falling down, even with a belt. the only kind of pants i can wear, at a minimum, need to have a stretchy material throughout. hence why skinny jeans work for me: they stretch around my curves while being more snug on my smaller waist, while being thick enough to make sure i don't look like i'm spilling out of some leggings
