The achievement made by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is one by way of both hardware and design to capitalise upon this. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR's level of immersion is simply fantastic, and while Bethesda Softworks could well have gone the route of DOOM VFR and created a shorter spin-off experience, developing a brand new The Elder Scrolls instalment specifically for VR would have taken many years and far too much in the way of resources for what is still a nascent audience. As it stands some may find the price point of the videogame a bitter pill to swallow, but for those who dreamed of a truly immersive role-playing experience, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is simply the best opportunity available today.

4Players.de 8.5
It doesn't look as crisp or detailed as last years' Special Edition on PS4. But with the newly added immersion, especially if you invest the time to get into the Move controls, this is one of the best VR experiences out there - it definitely is the content richest. Skyrim hasn't been as intense and interesting since its premiere six years ego.

Virtual reality breathes new life into an already excellent campaign. While you'll have probably seen everything that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR has to offer before, you'll never have seen it quite like this: vast, varied, and like an actual living, breathing place. Bethesda's proven that blockbusters can make the transition to PlayStation VR – and on this evidence, it's something we'd like to see happen more often.

Upload VR 8/10
For a game that wasn't originally designed for VR at all and has been ported first to the least powerful of the big three VR platforms in the PSVR, Skyrim VR is nothing short of impressive. This really is the Skyrim that you know and love, but now you can enjoy it like never before with the immersive presence of a VR headset. With a large variety of control schemes to choose from and hundreds of hours of content, this is a game that all RPG fans should play as long as you can look past the sometimes glaring issues. And if you don't own a PSVR yet, luckily there's a new Skyrim VR bundle with your name on it.

Eurogamer Italy 8/10
Despite the defects described so far, Skyrim VR remains an experience to be experienced. A Triple A to be proudly attached to Resident Evil 7 (and in the future also to Doom, we hope) to show your friends what wonders this technology is capable of despite its young age. A small final bracket on the price. Although the game includes all the expansions that came out of the main adventure, perhaps the VR experience does not justify a "full-price" launch. To propose such a title at a slightly lower price would have been a good move to further fuel the virtual reality market in view of upcoming Christmas holidays

Gameinformer 5/10
Despite all my pessimism about this port, I am glad Skyrim VR exists. I have had good and bad experiences in virtual reality, but just about all of them have revolved around gimmicky toys designed to show off the potential of VR, without ever actually going the distance to being a fully fleshed out game. I like that Bethesda swung for the fences to try and deliver a full game in virtual reality. That is admirable, even if playing the game did give me a headache.

I would love to see more experiments like Skyrim VR and Resident Evil 7 in virtual reality, where fully featured games get ported to this still-young medium. This port is rough, but I'm still hopeful that there is a game out there that works both ways. For now, if you want to revisit Skyrim, your best bet is to boot up one of the editions you already own or grab it on Switch.

PS Site 9/10
The biggest and the richest in content VR title on the market. It's more a feeling of being in the game rather than a challenge (even the developer suggests a lower difficulty level), but for the second playthrough or just casual beginnings with the game – it's perfect!

Bethesda's task when converting Skyrim to Playstation VR was not a simple one, but we can now say that they've achieved their goal, creating a new and exciting version of the game we all know and love.

Digital Chumps 8/10
As a fatalistic inevitability, Skyrim VR performs as expected. As a new entry into a revered monument, it's hard to imagine a more effective conception. The inherent drawbacks of virtual reality bend the knee to the novelty of the medium and the awesome feeling of existing inside of its world. Skyrim VR is more than a product born from market opportunity. It's a chance to live inside of a blistering dream, pleasantly aloof of its frailty. Skyrim is as good as home, and the dream of invulnerability only ends when you literally take the mask off. Under this lens, it's tough to imagine a game that better communicates the power of virtual reality.
http://digitalchumps.com/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-vr/

Road to VR.7.7
'Skyrim VR' challenges the notion that games not made for VR can't be effectively ported. It isn't perfect by any means, but the game brings a level of world depth and vastness of content that's unmatched anywhere else in VR to date, bringing a certain type of immersion that other VR titles lack. Heavy reliance on menus and sub-par visual fidelity hurt immersion and in-the-moment gameplay, but the game is propped up by the shear quantity of details, things to do, places to discover, and ways to play. If you can put up with Skyrim VR's port-y feeling, you've got a huge world to explore and a ton to do. In some ways, Skyrim VR offers strong hope for the future of VR—when a game of this scale is eventually built for the ground up for VR, it's going to knock your socks off.

Hobby Consolas 8/10
Skyrim is the game we´ve been waiting for in PSVR. It´s long, epic and fully inmersive. Six year after its original release, we still love the story and setting, although this version is not as polished as Special Edition for PS4 PRO (in native 4K resolution) or Skyrim for Nintendo Switch.

Bethesda has managed to bring Skyrim to VR successfully. It takes a while to get use to this type of game in VR, but once it clicks, you'll find an amazing way to rediscover a great and very special game.

PlayStation LifeStyle 9/10
Every time I put on the VR headset, I'm reminded of just how incredible virtual reality is. A similar awe catches hold of me with games like Skyrim. It's still hard to comprehend that Skyrim, a game from 2011 not originally designed for virtual reality, is now PlayStation VR's killer app. Marrying these two ideas seemed like an impossible feat, but Bethesda pulled it off. Skyrim VR is anything but a simple port to virtual reality. It is lovingly crafted with care and attention to make one of the biggest and most memorable VR experiences since the platform first launched. Skyrim VR isn't just a must-experience for PSVR owners; it's a reason to buy the headset.

GameReactor 8/10
Overall we walked into Skyrim VR sceptical as to how Bethesda could recreate their RPG in the medium, one that's only seen what many have referred to as 'tech demos' in the past, but we came away stunned and surprised. The scale is all there, and the control schemes work a treat. Sure, the Move Controllers aren't great in terms of tracking sometimes, but the feeling of immersion is fantastic, especially when you get into your stride and start throwing out spells and attacks like you're actually there. The graphical tradeoff was worth it for us, and we can't wait to dive back into the world again.

Bought it, will be playing it tomorrow. Today I'm just relaxing playing Skyrim on the Switch and trying it out. I'm really impressed with how well Bethesda is doing with their ports. But I'm not impressed that a lot of the same old bugs exist. :/
Still wish I wasn't paying the price of a new game for the VR and Switch versions.

Finding reviews for Skyrim on PSVR is hard, not that many around :(

PS4 Experts 9.5/10
Playing Skyrim VR showed me the future of virtual reality. It reignited my love for PlayStation VR, and it brought me closer to a world that holds a special place in my heart. Yes, it still has some bugs, and on one occasion I noticed a frame rate drop that took me out of the moment, but these things aren't what I remember from my numerous hours in the game thus far.

No, what I remember is staring into the face of a dragon and living to tell the tale. I remember exploring the depths of dungeons as the undead attacked from all sides. I remember climbing the slopes of snow-covered mountains and communing with gods amongst men.

Skyrim VR is not only the best game on PlayStation VR and a reason to buy the headset on its own, but it's also a crowning achievement for virtual reality as a whole.

I will be experiencing Skyrim for the first time (yes we exist!) in VR. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Last game in the series I played was Daggerfall too.

VR is a flop with mainstream gamers thanks to a ridiculous price tag and poor selection of games, so it's not surprising at all.
At least Sony is making some headway with it's cheaper price and bundling Skyrim alongside it.

It's only going to get cheaper and more cost-effective over time. I'm just a little nervous because there haven't been any new PSVR announcements for a while, I suspect a slew for next month. But I really hope we get a ton of big titles supporting the device in the coming year.

Hopefully that changes this holiday season. It seems like Sony is making a bug push with various bundles and price cuts.
honestly, it would have to be $199 before the mainstream buys into it. They don't see it as a new platform, but as an accessory.

Having played this at a demo it was damn cool, only wish 2 things.

1) I had used move controllers
2) the move controllers were actually Touch Controllers.

Why a lot of outlets didn't review it yet? no early codes or no interest from these outlets?

I sympathize with VR enthusiasts. I loved the Wii U, and it was really sad watching it flop so hard. Hopefully VR can have a Switch-like turnaround. I've never tried it, but would like it to reach mainstream pricing and accessibility, and achieve better quality. Maybe this Skyrim version can help. I'd love a VR metroid prime.

This plays way better than I expected for psvr. I can't believe I spent $100 on Skyrim in 2017, but here we are. I've been using moves so far but will try the ds4 to see how that feels for a bit.

I hope some bigger outlets bother to give it a review, looking up at the night sky from a mountain top is incredibly impressive.

I'm glad it turned out pretty well and wonder how Fallout 4 VR is going to be next month. I'll likely get both on my Vive, but I think I'll wait for some reviews on Fallout first.

Well yeah, I agree it has a brighter future, but I was just relating a similar feeling of a product you love underperforming. Many enthusiasts had realistic outlooks, but some thought VR would take the world by storm extremely quickly.

Looking forward to playing this when it inevitably makes its way to the Vive. Sounds like the Move controllers are, yet again, the weak link on an otherwise great version of the game.

Where are you reading this? From the impressions, the Moves are seemingly the preferred control scheme of choice and they seem to add much more into the immersion.

Kotaku not really a review though
Leaping into Skyrim with a VR headset on feels a bit like placing an LSD sweetart under your tongue before a concert. The result is a whirlwind of sound and visual splendor, but after a while you also need to just sit down and chill for a bit. From the very start of the game, everything feels larger. The sky spans outwards, spiders and bears feel genuinely massive, and dragons go from a ho-hum affair into something astounding and broad. The game's opening sequence, in which the ancient dragon Alduin sacks the village of Helgen, disorientates and excites in the best possible ways. I've never experienced anything quite like a massive dragon, to scale, breathing fire in my face.
Skyrim remains a gorgeous region to explore in VR. It's not as alien or interesting as Morrowind or painterly as Oblivion's Cyrodiil, but whether wandering open fields or scaling high mountains, the game world is an absolute joy. Weather effects such as snowy winds or rain feel a hell of a lot more real when they're swirling past your face. Monsters are a much more immediate threat when they're snapping and slashing right in front of you. The VR experience expands on Skyrim's sense of adventure. It feels like a genuine journey.

Combat is confusing at first; it's hard to get your bearings when an Imperial soldier is smacking you upside the head with her hammer, but it eventually falls into place. If you just want to smack folks with a massive sword, you'll find that being right in the action gives your swipes more weight. Archery also comes to life in ways the standard game never managed. Sneaking around and looking exactly where you need to aim before loosing your arrow is tense.

Shocking treatment of what is a top tier VR experience, rivals RE7 as being a must buy.

Look at the user feedback on opencritic, Era, Reddit and you'll see that it's everything you would want for a VR game and the moves work really well.

VR reviews in general are hard to find. Only a handful of small sites reviewing something like From other Suns too. Which is like the begginings of a dream come true game to me (FTL, co-op, in VR).

Ah, Heather was using a PS4 controller for movement. That makes more sense that she'd get naseauted easier. Strafing or sliding movement not based on guided direction from hand or view can really throw you off if you don't have the stomach for it.

So there's no stamina in VR? Wolland said that bigger, wider faster swings did more damage (I'm assuming like power swings). But floppy sword fighting is no good. It'll be cool to see what kind of mechanics games bring in going forward to make these experiences more authentic and less "wavey". Guns obviously work best right now, which is why Fallout 4 VR will be interesting. Although when I last played it at PAX the sites did not line up at all outside the 10mm which was really dissapointing.

Timed exclusive. I don't think they said how long. But I'd imagine 6 to 12 months. PC gets Fallout 4 VR. Probably a win win for Bethesda. That way they weren't releasing two Big VR releases on top of eachother and getting some exclusivity cash on top.

I do agree though that limiting to one platform these important establishment titles for VR is really bad form.

BMR not a a review
Sitting in that familiar cart after starting a new game, I realized that I was actually turning my head back and forth to watch the other passengers as they had a discussion which I've basically memorized by now, rather than using the right thumbstick to move my character's head. Instantly more engrossing than it ever had been. Once I actually took control of my character, it was a bit of an adjustment. Because there haven't been many (or really any) open world VR games of this scale, running around the environment freely made my head spin at first. But after hacking, slashing, jumping and sprinting my way through the intro mission, I felt comfortable with the controls.
Although the movement takes some getting used to, I actually found that I could aim with the game's bows far better using my sight as the reticle than I ever could with the thumbstick in the standard version of Skyrim. And as for those little immersive touches I alluded to above, having to physically look at an object or a container or a corpse in order to interact with them drew me in that much more. I've only spent a few hours with the game so far, but for the first time in ages, I can see myself getting back into Skyrim in a big way.

I'm really happy this exists for people who are a fan of Skyrim, but sadly I couldn't really get into it when I played the Special Edition last year on PS4. I'm certainly not willing to pay full price again for this but perhaps I will try it out again when it's cheap.

I hope this increases adoption of the PSVR. I also hope more developers make vr versions of old classic games. Seems like something that could be really beneficial for everyone.
