DQ is much more than just Erdrick. It's the aesthetic, the Akira Toriyama designs, the world, it's monsters, the slimes, and even the music (like it or not). A DQ rep would bring all of that. It's a 32 year old franchise and THE RPG franchise in Japan. It deserves a spot even if imtheir MCs are bland skates but I'd argue they're not blander than Link is who's also a serial mute with no discernible personality (at least not more than Erdrick).
Right now this only concerns Joker and Erdrick, but if the Joker/Erdrick 5chan rumor (that mentioned Mementos) is 100% legit, it also gives a bit of validity to the Steve/Doom Guy/Hayabusa rumor that preceeded it (due to them both mentioning Anlucia and Luminary as Erdrick alts). I'm sure the latter will still end up being false though.

Byleth would be really cool in Smash. You get to play as a professor who can use a Sword, Axe, Lance, and maybe more.

To be fair according to Sakurai that's how Cloud got into Smash. A bunch of Final Fantasy characters were voted in the ballot and Sakurai decided to put one in with Cloud as the rep because he was the most requested FF character out of all of them.
A shame that Sakurai didn't choose? I just want to be sure since it could be interpreted as you wishing that John Carmack should have made the choices.
When you haven't gotten a unique character since Melee it can make you a little bitter.
