Don't take canon so seriously. It's all made up. I remember awhile back Pablo said that canon is not about precise detail but general events. Yea he qualified it by saying it's only his opinion, but it's still an approach taken by someone that works in the Lucasfilm Story Group. Star Wars is a fairytale for dreaming and inspiring. Galaxy's Edge just takes that to the next level by letting you directly into that universe.

Because Smuggler's Run is interactive, the ride takes as long as how good your team is. If you're paired up with good people who can understand true pilot controls and have fast reflexes, the ride takes a good 10 minutes at least. It's teams of 6: 2 pilots, 2 gunners & 2 engineers.

This is not true. It's mostly on rails.

Your ride may last as long as it takes for the carousel to bring you to the exit hall, you may perform well enough to get done quickly (aka, not taking Hyperdrive damage and seeing the asteroid field) - or a group may be really slow loading in or out and cause you to be stalled at the end (extended Hondo talking to you about your performance)... but it's a pretty consistent 4 minutes

Ah got it. Granted, I was an engineer so it felt a bit longer than 4 minutes heh. That said, we took no hyperdrive damage and made it through the asteroid field. Our credit amount was pretty good for the most part.

Was still a good experience since my friend and I were in a good team.

Just heard on the Ringer that the Millennium Falcon group experience sucks if your pilot is a kid and all the adults are stuck as engineers.
Not sure why they would make it like that. There should be an easy mode or else there are going to be fights if the pilot sucks.

Waiting 2 hours out of a 3 hour reservation and the pilot being some kind of critical video game position.

Part of my general issue with the park is it just seems to be weirdly bolting-on canon like this. Why is there a group of people selling/building lightsabers? Why is Yoda talking to them? If we're going to bring Yoda into this, wouldn't it have been cooler to see him as a force ghost? I'm not sure if I want Rise of Skywalker to somehow explain or justify this stuff.....or if that would just feel kinda hokey and cheap.

I wouldn't be surprised though if some things in the park are being held back right now because they would be Rise of Skywalker spoilers. I suspect that Rise of the Resistance ties in heavily to the next film, which is why it's not yet open either.
Yeah, like why are these non-Force Sensitives so adept at building and selling lightsabers to Force Sensitives who should intuitively know how to put together a lightsaber? The lore is screwy and can't be reconciled. And, if they are selling lightsabers, like selling it lore-wise, why the fuck would Yoda speak to some assholes who bought a saber instead of building one themself?

Hmm, interesting thoughts! Well, if you need official Black Spire/Batuu canon, it exists and is being written! Here you go:

Reading the preview synopsis of the future issues, sounds like it deals with potentially finding Holocrons (and maybe lightsabers) on Jedha and bringing them to Batuu as relics to sell?

That and there is a Star Wars book called, Thrawn:Alliances that covers Darth Vader/Anakin and Thrawns time on Batuu based on a mysterious disturbance in the Force surrounding the planet. I'm only a few chapters in so I can't comment on what's found there.

Basically the mark is to let them know you have already ridden it once before. So say I ride it once and get a mark. I then try to go back 10 minutes before my time slot is over and the line is 30 minutes long. They wouldn't let me in.

If I did not have a mark, they would let me in.
You can see the wait time for Smuggler's Run in the official Disney App but they also offer single rider aside from just standby. They do mark your wristband as soon as you enter the ride but my friend and I were happy to go on just the 1 time today. The mark simply indicates that you've been on the ride.

Ahh, gotcha. Well, I think my question was more along the lines of - If I make it into the Smugglers Run ride at 3 hours and some change left, if I pass my 4 hour mark while I'm in line, before I get to ride, will I be escorted out by asshole stormtroopers? Haha

You kinda have to suspend disbelief concerning lore for any amusement park attraction, which is why Lucasfilm's "everything is canon now" attitude just sorta breaks things here.

It really just feels like somebody at Disney just saw the wand ceremony at Wizarding World and demanded that they do something like that with lightsabers. Which is why I'm not really sure if I even want the films to try and explain/justify this......because at that point the creative team on the movies is having to make weird compromises just to help sell amusement park tickets and merchandise.

I mean, what's the point people are trying to make here? At the end of the day, whatever the official canon/lore stance is, I feel like we can safely feel that an amusement park isn't canon. Everyone wants to have Ollivander find them a wand match, everyone wants to build a lightsaber. There are no wizards or Jedi. They let you do that at an amusement park because it's cool. That's kind of wholly where it begins and ends. Why are people upset by this?

As a note, I'm not suggesting that you're complaining about this with the above post.

A good pilot is not critical. People need to relax about 'winning' the game as you can't lose (just like they need to just accept they may not be pilot!). Besides, the kids experience is more important so just have fun with it. I did have one bad pilot girl, but it was still very fun crashing and all yelling directions, and then afterwards we just joked with her that after that we'd never hire her again.

One of my favourite moments is the last jump to light speed, coming out of lightspeed they put you right in front of a spire. 3/4 pilots I had crashed into it because they were relaxing :p

It's not that I am super-precious about the lore and things that are in the park, but am generally concerned about how decisions made purely for the benefit of the Galaxy's Edge will ultimately affect other Star Wars media. Because they went ass-backwards and built the park and then tried canonize its content (rather than adapting existing films/material that were already accepted canon), it makes any atttempt to include it in canon media feel stupid and hokey. The very first panel of that Galaxy's Edge comic book is literally product placement for the Ronto Wrap sandwich sold in the park. The rest of it of is not quite as bad but it's hard not to get the feeling that it's intended more as promotional material than legitimate narrative.

If no attempt is made to shoehorn Baatu or its elements into the films, I'm generally okay with some of the liberties taken in the park. I already kinda don't consider the tertiary Star Wars projects as canon, even though they technically are.

Its all coming down to episode IX to determine whether it is or not for me.

At 11:24 in the following video there are a couple guys with Anakin/Rey lightsabers that can change color on the fly. Is this a feature of the official lightsabers? Or do they just have some weird custom job made by a third party? I would probably be more likely to buy a Legacy saber if that's actually one of their features.

Those look like and seem to be mentioned in the video as custom made graflex style sabers. Looks like neopixel LED strip blades with color changing, saber lock and blaster deflect effects. Prices are pretty high and can range anywhere between $400-$1000+ but they are significantly higher quality than official sabers and can do cool stuff like this:

I would bet my kids lives that baatu is atleast mentioned in the next movie. No way is disney missing out on a chance for synergy like that.

Oh I'm sure they will find a way to mention Batuu or work in in as an Easter Egg. Hell, the characters may even visit the planet.

It's more stuff like the lightsaber-builders that I would prefer left out of the proper films. Even the Galaxy's Edge comic treats sabers with more reverence than the park does -- it's a big deal for Doc Ondar to come into possession of a single lightsaber. They're definitely objects of great rarity and mystery, and I suspect they will try to keep it that way outside the actual park.

They'd been ruined by making them nothing special, even by melee weapon standards, since ROTS...earlier if you count the old EU.

What is wrong with the milks?

And more to the point, how could they screw up the milks? It seems like a no-brainer to just put some food coloring in soy or dairy milk.

My only real problem with the milk is they just had to go plant-based, and due to nut allergies being so severe now, went with Coconut. Which my kid is allergic to.

Yay. :/

Got to go Yesterday, was a blast! Really impressive the amount of detail and I got hugged by Chewbacca so it was all worth it.

The Cantina was prob the most disappointing part, but the lightsaber building was fantastic so it made up for it.

Also, green milk is better. (Both are definitely Meh tho, I wont be craving them like I do butterbeer at Harry Potter land).

Do we think the lore of this park has any effect on the films? Like, the lightsaber build shop implies that a bunch of new Jedi are rising every day.

I wouldn't think so, but who knows. Also if the builders aren't Force sensitive, how can they hear Master Yoda?
When I built my Saber I asked about that, and it was implied that they are just selling it illegally, not neccassarily that actual Jedi are buying them. I told him I don't know how to use a Saber, but I just want one and he said that's typical and that nobody can really wield one.

But how do they hear Master Yoda. Or is it all a meta-meta griff. In that these riff-raff on this outpost are pretending to sell real sabers, but are actually just pieces of plastic, to Jedi-fanboys/girls and use spoofed recordings of Master Yoda to make it seem like they are in-tune with the Force. But, in reality, they are just trying to con idiots in the galaxy to buy fake sabers?

Is that the actual meta-canon? Because I accept nothing else as true now.

Hahahaha, yea pretty much.

Everything you do is 100% canon, your saber isn't even real its just a plastic stick with a light in it. It's all a ruse! I'd love that.

You can buy Imperial Officer Rank Badges.

S48pYkJ.jpg

And in keeping with Star Wars tradition, the actual badges don't make sense. Grand Moff and Moff have the same combination!

CUXrKbO.jpg

(And yes, that's a comlink in the boxes in the background, and yes the comlink has Bluetooth)

Im pretty sure I've been able to find all 10 of them through pictures online, not 100% sure on all the prices. You can see most if not all of them in pics here:
http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2019/...den-of-antiquities-in-star-wars-galaxys-edge/
  1. Rey/Luke ANH+ESB/Anakin ($110)
  2. Luke's RotJ ($130)
  3. Obi-Wan's ($110)
  4. Darth Vader's ($110)
  5. Kylo Ren's ($150)
  6. Darth Maul's ($130)
  7. Jedi Temple Guard (I think? Haven't seen the actual name they gave it)
  8. Mace Windu (I assume $110, havent seen the price tag for it online)
  9. Asajj Ventress ($130)
  10. Ashoko Tano's ($200 for dual lightsaber)
I think most of the $130 ones come with an extra piece, either for connecting the blade (like Luke's RotJ one seen in a video) or for connecting the lightsabers together (like Maul's or Asajj's I'm pretty sure)

Yeah, I believe Mace Windu's lightsaber is $110 (every picture I've seen has its price plague missing), and I've seen pictures showing the Temple Guard one is too. For whatever reason, Doc Ondar's does not call it Jedi Temple Guard. To break it down by price:

$110
Obi-Wan (Episode I design)
Jedi Temple Guard
Rey (Same as Anakin's in Episode III, and Luke's in Episodes IV and V)
Darth Vader
Mace Windu

$130
Darth Maul (comes with a connecting piece so that two can be connected together)
Asajj Ventress (comes with a connecting piece so that two can be connected together)
Luke Skywalker (comes with a separate upper body for use with a blade)

$150
Kylo Ren (I think the increase in price might be due to it including the side blades, but I can't find anyone who's bought it)

$200
Ahsoka Tano (Two matching lightsabers)

And some more details:

All lightsabers hilts are metal. They have electronics for sound and effects, but will not work without a blade installed (I think). They run on three AAA batteries. They come in an included, stylish, plastic case. The button on the case has the logo of the organization most closely associated with the character with background color the same as an attached blade when lit. If anyone's wondering, here's what the logos are:

Obi-Wan - Jedi Order
Luke Skywalker - Rebel Alliance
Kylo Ren- First Order
Darth Maul - Sith Era
Temple Guard - Jedi Temple Guard
Asajj Ventress - Separatists
Ahsoka - Fulcrum (the spy title Ahsoka used in Star Wars Rebels)
Mace Windu - Jedi Order
Rey - Resistance (Essentially identical to the symbol for the Rebel Alliance)
Darth Vader - the Empire

Do annual pass discounts work for non-custom merch?

No discount on the saber hilts

I bought 4 Sabers and 1 $50 dollar blade, the discount was $5 total out

Friend bought 1 saber and 1 blade, discount was $5 total.

So I'm assuming only the blades are being discounted 10%

Weeks prior to launch some people in this thread (or another Galaxy's Edge thread) claimed that the canon explaination for Savi and Doc's shops is that they are actually selling replicas and cosplay items for in-universe Jedi fanboys. Going by the Galaxy's Edge comic book I don't think that's really what is intended, but maybe in the last issue Doc just decides that it is safer to sell amusing fakes than the real goods.

I kinda like the explanation that they're actually grifters trying to pass off replicas as the real thing, but I think that would kinda leave a bad taste in people's mouths. As reverent and solemn as that presentation at Savi's is, I don't think they'd follow it up with "You got punked!"

I've watched a ton of Galaxy's Edge videos so it all kinda bleeds together. My general takeaway from them has been that your Annual Pass isn't going to get you a lot of discounts in Galaxy's Edge. At least not on any of the big-ticket items.

Damn, if I lived near Disneyland I'd take a sick day to take advantage of this - this kind of shit is just unheard of these days. I live near WDW and I bet the rest of Hollywood Studios will get this effect for the first month of Galaxy's Edge - unfortunately, regular Hollywood Studios is just not as appealing as the other parks.

It's natural - people are going to hold off on Disney trips until they can go and do Galaxy's Edge. Disney is expensive.

If you don't have a reservation, you'll wait to go when you can actually get in. I imagine once they switch to the digital boarding group system, the park will be slammmmed.

I wish the custom lightsabers looked closer to those flyers than they do in real life.

Only the Peace and Justice one seems to be as shiny as it looks there, the other's metal all seem to be a bit duller. Not necessarily bad, I just personally really like the shiny metal look vs a more matte look.
It's one of the reasons I'm leaning toward getting the Legacy sabers more than the Custom ones.

The protect and defense one I especially wish was like it's printed picture with a shinier actual gold color rather than the yellow it looks like in real life photos.

Edit: Never mind! The guy had a disclaimer on his video that they DO work between each other, he just forgot to take out a plug in his Legacy lightsaber. Lol.

Here's a newer video reviewing the custom lightsabers, not the best quality video, but he does answer some questions I had.

For the Elemental Nature one, the whale bone and wood parts are actually a rubbery material, not plastic like i thought. I assume that's to help with grip.
And the rancor tooth is a hard plastic and it has some holes (cavities?) to allow the sound to pass through it.
Can we talk about how the rare black kyber crystal is going for $500 on ebay?

Geez. That's kinda crazy especially considering you can just do the phone flashlight trick to find it (you can see that it's not letting light through when you do that), but im sure the price will go down over time.
Doesn't really seem worth it since functionally it'll still just make your blade red.

They really should have done more variations, like slightly different shapes or hues for all the colors, not just red.
Making only one color have a very rare alt is just asking for abuse on the resale market.
I know there's the holocron stuff, but I'm not planning on getting one of those.
