Retail sales for Ps4 are at 1.5m in Japan. Honestly it selling 900k digitally there is a much bigger stretch than the xbone version alone being over 1million digitally globally.

It could be that pubg dropped a lot, but it did kept the pace coming from 3 million to 4 million, we are still in the 10day window since they announced 4 million, pubg would have to drop higher than 40% since hitting 4 million. I dunno if that's realistic or not thought. Pubg seems like GTA or Minecraft, those type of games that always keep selling well.

  3. Keep in mind, MHW is PS4 exclusive in Asia, not just Japan.

But yeah, I think X1 sales are ~1M.

Im getting the sense that a few people in this thread are scrambling to move the goal post. Regardless im really glad to hear its doing well, i bought it, but it wasnt for me personally, i could see where it would get addictive for some though.

Would be interested in knowing why you didn't warm to it, i was where you are up until this morning, its starting to come together after 5 hours of playing, thought it was needlessly bloated at first with scrappy combat but i can see the naunces now, reacting to them is immensely satisfying.

The MM issues? No they have not been fixed.
A lot of Xbox users still have issues with MM and answering sos in general.

Just look at their latest patch notes that came with patch afew days ago. They’re still working on it...

    Officially, maybe.

Still getting tons of issues personally. There's like a 50/50 chance that responding to an SOS will actually work.

Fixed as much as MCC was (maybe a little hyperbolic, just a little). I still can't launch the game and be set into a group like the game wants to start. I still have to rely on flares and joining a friend's match.

Matchmaking has been working (almost) perfectly for me since the second week (I’ve got 80hrs on my save now and every hunt is matchmade/SOS flare) but I don’t wanna take away from those having issues. Seems some still are.

Note that if you’re trying to join an SOS flare and it fails it’s more often than not just been filled by others by the time you click on it. They should probably give a better error than ‘joining failed’ but I often join a solo person and within seconds all four places are taken. I notice that the ‘fails’ I get are almost always with the really popular hunts and when I search again they’ve gone from the list (as they’ve been filled presumably). Ones that everyone is trying to match in to. Sometimes takes me a couple of goes but I always find one to join.

Retail PS4 sales are a hair under 1.6M in Japan, and the game was supply constrained week 1 which would lead to more digital sales. So that's ~800K digital, not 900K. Plus it was already rumored in the MC thread that MHW sold 2.4M including digital in Japan.

A 50% increase from digital sales is not far-fetched, especially for a game that is so small in size, is this popular, and that was again supply constrained.

And again, PS4 took 72% of sales in MS's second strongest market, the UK. The rest of EUR, PS4 probably holds a much higher share of sales.

In the US it will be closer to 50/50, but PS4 will probably still have a >50% share of sales.

So no, I disagree that 800K digital in Japan is more far-fetched than the XB1 version being over 1M digitally, considering I don't think MHW sold much more than 1M digital+retail combined on XB1.

Even if we went with a safe number and say 2M sales in Japan, that leaves 4M. Now let's give XB1 a favorable 40% of the remaining 4M (when it is likely to be much lower than that)... that's 1.6M retail+digital. That would have to be a pretty damn high digital split to be over 1M, in an already unlikely scenario.

Again, I think MHW XB1 sales are 1.1-1.2M retail+digital globally, which is still good considering the large majority of those sales are probably in the US. And it is typically not a game that XB fans will buy.

PUBG was likely huge at launch, plus in December MS was giving it away free with XB1X purchase.
The game was plagued with bad press due to performance issues and bugs, so a steep decline in popularity is not surprising to me.

That's not to say that PUBG isn't popular today... it was just selling at an insane rate early on. It's not surprising that things have cooled down, especially when it already has a very large install base on PC, and development of the PC version is quite a bit ahead.

I'd probably say its about a 75% chance of getting into an sos. Is it close to 100% on ps4? Honest question.

Ps4 took 72% of the retail sales, which also counts bundles.

And xbone is known to have a higher digital to retail rate compared to Ps4.

Again, retail. The whole point of this thread is to discuss physical sales and MHW outsold Pubg which like I said has 100% of the sales as digital.

So no, I disagree that 800K digital in Japan is more far-fetched than the XB1 version being over 1M digitally, considering I don't think MHW sold much more than 1M digital+retail combined on XB1.[/quote]
And I disagree that a digital share way higher (IIRC Sony in their fiscal reports said just now Ps4 achieved a 30% rate for digital sales, and that was because digital sales had a big increase over 2016) than average is likely in Japan of all places.

Also, the game didn't launched on retail on xbone in Asia, so it's yet another reason to more people to buy digitally there.

There are even popular user feedback to add Chinese language on the xbone version: https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/3...nguage-support-for-monster-hunter-wo#comments

I don't think 1.6 million is unlikely at all, the game is currently the best selling xbox game digitally and in all markets that we have data for. Do you honestly think 1.6 million for the best current selling game on the console is being overly positive?

Well, this thread says otherwise, xbox owners are buying the game, otherwise it wouldn't be the top selling :P

I also don't know if I agree with the majority of the sales being on the US, Unless the US represents for far more than 50% of xbone user base, this is clearly a game that has world wide appeal.

And yeah, Ps4 had exclusive bundles and marketing rights, but it does so with pretty much any AAA release and the sales are not usually that low. The reason why xbone game sales are overall with similar ratios compared to Ps4 is when you factor Japan, but excluding Japan from the equation xbone usually fares a lot better.

Here's the thing: Ms announced 3 million in january. After the X bundles were over, as well the holiday sales. And still the game sold another 1 million in less than two weeks later. Also on february 6th they released the bundle with S console.

And Monster Hunter World still topped it's sales, and we are still in the 15 day period since they announced 4 million sales. Any day on this week we might get the news that pubg is now at 5 million

Sorry but I fail to see your point here... Capcom's 6M MHW shipped report most likely includes bundles as well.

    Proof?

Even if that's the case, it doesn't change much for discussion.

No... the point of our discussion is I'm disputing your >1M digital XB1 sales post and nothing more.

For that to be true, XB1 sales would have to be AT LEAST ~2M, but that would mean that XB1 took 50% of MHW sales outside of Japan, but we all know that's not the case.

Considering this is a pretty dry period for software (and sales in general), it doesn't surprise me that a title selling (what I'm guessing to be) ~1.2M is topping the charts. 1.2M is still a lot for a game that released just a few weeks ago.

I never said that the game is not selling on XB1. I said that this is the type of game that Xbox owners typically don't buy. But since when is ~1.2M sold in a few weeks considered bad? Relative to PS4 it is low, but it is still high in its own right, especially on XB and this type of game. It shows how big MHW is and how much they expanded their audience.

Considering that Sony has marketing rights, that it is a type of game that typically sells more on PS, and the sales figures that we do have (Japan and the UK and Capcom's 6M figure) >1M digital on XB1 seems highly unlikely.

If Sony took 72% of sales in the UK, MS's second strongest market, what kind of picture do you see in the rest of EUR?

MS doesn't report sales figures anymore, but I have followed sales reports earlier on, taking note of sales estimates done by EA and other industries, NPD reports, Sony's actual sales figures etc., and earlier on, the US represented between 55-60% of all sales. I can't see that number changing much.

But I honestly don't know why you're disputing that point... it was a point to help your >1M digital sales claim. MHW sales are obviously heavily favored on PS in EUR and 100% of sales in Japan are PS4. For digital sales to be >1M on XB1, it would have to sell a lot in the US for that to be true.

MS's strongest markets are in the US and UK. We already have sales figures in the UK, but the US is unknown at this point.

  29. Wow, this is shocking in a good way. I would not have expected this kind of western success on any platform, particularly Xbox.

FWIW, I own all the consoles, but primarily use my Xbox. I initially dismissed this game, but when the great reviews came out I decided to give MH a 2nd look. I'm skeptical I'll love it, but I'm interested. I'm working though my backlog right now, but I'm sure I'll pick it up once there's a good sale.

Just wanted to update this to say that, after a month, MHW is number 10 on the U.K. Xbox Top paid list. It’s ahead of FIFA (in the UK), Minecraft, Destiny 2 and Battlefront 2. Seems to be selling really, really fucking well on the console still.

I'm guessing at this point word of mouth is now selling the game to those that the initial advertising push missed or didn't convince. Like many I've seen people who don't play much outside of the yearly AAA releases like CoD, AC and so on digging into MHW and with some serious time investments.

The Destiny players on my friend list went to MHW. They did the same thing with The Division but that only last a few weeks, maybe a month before going back to Destiny, we'll see how much longer MHW can keep its claws into them.

Kinda worth noting that four of the things ahead of MHW in this week’s Top Paid chart are items currently in the sale. There are always things on sale so not super relevant but worth noting why Human Fall Flat is in the top ten and FIFA isn’t!

EDIT: MHW is currently number 3 in the US Top Paid Xbox chart Saint-14. PUBG number one, Fortnite Save The World number two (currently half off in the sale).

So after four weeks, MHW is still beating COD WW2, Destiny 2, FIFA, Madden, Minecraft, Overwatch etc. How long do we have to wait until we can say it's not just because it's new? That Xbox owners actually just really do buy Japanese games. Or, more specifically, let's not group games into 'where they were made' and just say that 'gamers like good games' no matter where they were made? Can the meme die yet?
