I really, really, really need this in my life. Final Fantasy VI is fantastic and it deserves more love than Square has given it.

No, it needs to look like Xenogears.

And I'll only accept Octopath style if it lacks telekinetic fighting.

Eh, FF6 deserves the FF7R treatment even more than FF7 imo.

But if that cannot happen, I'll take an octopath style remake

Absolutely fucking not. That's not a remake. FFVI deserves better than being made into low-detail retro-porn.

Thts what I want, but of course a better version of octopath's sytle. Its a great starting point for what I really wouldnt mind being used for a few more games.

It absolutely should look Octopath Traveler. That game was basically a tech demo for those amazing visuals and in my opinion was the best and only good thing about Octo besides the music and maybe the battle system if it wasn't so slow.

A 3d remake with the production values of VII Remake would probably be better though.

I hate "so we're all in agreement" cuz you're just baiting people to come and disagree with you

But yes I do agree Octopath's style would be the best choice to mix both retro and a more modern style in a way that audiences were largely receptive to while being budget minded, a FFVI remake is not going to be selling like the top entries

i'd prefer a fully-3d remake tbh
Look at the mobile remakes, the 3D remakes and FFVIIR, you aren't getting a desirable result from SE out of that lol

No. That wouldn't be much more than a graphical uplift, but FFVI deserves more. Handle it like the FFVII remake.

Then don't remake it. Octopath's inconsistent, clunky visual style is garbage and it wouldn't improve the game at all.

If you're not willing to actually improve a game with a remake, just leave it alone.

In all honesty IDGAF as long as the dialogue has good looking portraits, and as long as there's CG cutscenes sprinkled throughout. I would say "I wish SE remade V and VI on the 3DS" but I hated 4 DS so I dunno lol

Actually, scratch that. Those sprites are just ugly, not charming. If you're gonna go that route, cleaner sprites please.

ACTUALLY, make it PS1 style with pre-rendered backgrounds and decent looking character models.

Why are you talking like you'd be happy with anything they do, you fucking hate everything lmao. There is literally nothing they could do to make you happy.

Remakes don't actually destroy the original game, they can remake it and you can just not play it. This is a pretty reasonable middle ground for a style that most people really like. A big budget remake is never happening.

The best thing to hope for is something on the level of Trials of Mana if they were to go the full 3D route. At least that is faithful to the source material with the town layouts and even class upgrades being unique to the concept art rather than just simple texture recolours.

But if an FF6 remake did happen, I'd much prefer something closer to Octopaths mixture of 2D sprite work layered over 3D backgrounds.

Worse case scenario is they'll just port the mobile / steam version directly and call it a day.

I don't know if there's a point in remaking it if you're going to make it look like that.

Yes absolutely. Also remake FF8 and 9 that way so it doesn't take three decades to get their remakes done.

I hate the Octopath Traveler look.

Like, how do you make a game with sprites, and design it to ruin the scaling of the sprites in every single frame? Not to mention the ugly late 2000s yellow filter applied to any scene that isn't snowy.

Nah...FFVI is too good to be constrained with sprite. Octopath style should be for the more simple entries in the series, like FFI - III and V.

A 3D remake would take them 60 years to release and they'd probably just ruin it by changing heaps about it, with TEH ACTIONZ!!1 gameplay and making Carbuncle look stupid.

So nar to that.

I think what most people really want at this venture is just the game unmolested on modern consoles.

so let's do FFV in the Bravely Default 2 style instead

I don't hate everything. I just hate a visual style that looks like paper cutouts running around on top of a shadowbox. FFVI deserves more than being remade in an art style that was meant to try and HOMAGE ITS OWN FUCKING GRAPHICS.

If you're not going to treat it with the respect it deserves, leave it alone.

Absolutely not. I personally dislike Octopath's look. Much prefer if they just remake it like FFIV on PSP in terms of art style.

Nah, he is right. Remaking FFVI in that way would be a hell step backwards. FFV or VI should get something way better than O.T. I love O.T. style but I rather something more ambitious.

Ehh, no thanks. It was a nice novelty the first time around with Octopath Traveler, but I can't say it's something I'd like to see spread to FFVI.
FFVI deserves WAY better. Like, FFVIIr better. Shit, FFVI deserves that treatment a lot more than VII does, IMO.
Or hell, whatever the next-gen consoles will be capable of better.

Trials of Mana looks great but SE's track record outside of it is really rough, plus I'm not sure the art style translates as well. It's probably the next best thing.

You do hate everything lol, don't pretend you're not the most negative person around. You're ragging on a visual style that was praised right now.

Yeah no shit it deserves the world, but VI isn't getting a VIIR level remake so get that out of your head. That's not feasible. This is an SE with a generally terrible track record when it comes to remakes and remasters. A straight port is better than most of what they'll offer.

It's almost like it's an artistic style designed to jerk off people's nostalgia for the SNES era so of course nostalgic people will receive it fondly.

Just ignore the fact that FFVI's tile art looks better than Octopath does, and is actually visually consistent to boot.

Octopath gave me a headache looking at it. The fucking filters and effects are terrible which sucks because the actual art is quite nice.

I don't get why the developers don't actually bother animating characters jumping in front of enemies to attack anymore. They just swing in the air and somehow the enemies get hit. This happens in Octopath, Bravely and I think World of FF. Imagine if Cloud using Omnislash just stands there wailing his sword around instead of actually going out there and physically slash the enemy around.

Uhuh, so you take Octopath's style - which most people like - mixed with VI's art - which is even better- and you get what? An incredible looking result? Better than what's in the OP?

Absolutely would look great. Everybody saying no needs to 1.) understand that VI will never get the full remake treatment and 2.) keep their mouths shut if VI drops with some crappy filter or other changes that don't look as pleasing.

OT has a great art style and VI would look incredible with it.

No.

Octopath Traveler is designed to be inspired by games like FFVI, like a throwback game. Bringing FFVI back in a new iteration likely wouldn't fly with how the company handles FF remakes, as they're often made pushing the game forward, not backwards.

You'd get something more like the Bravely games than Octopath if they were to remake it.
