Oh sure, but it was an eye opening experience since , ya know, I imagine no matter how great Johann's german shepherd fursuit was, he was still going to a camp.
lmao, I actually know a local furry named Johann who has a german shepherd fursuit. He cosplayed as dogmeat but as a vault dweller last Pax East :P

Somewhere
This one time I was at a comic book convention, and I was browsing the artist alley. I came across a table with an unassuming older woman with grey hair, glasses, and a floral patterned dress on. I think she was selling paintings of teapots and housewares with some macrame and other similar items. There was a black portfolio-sized binder on her table, and I thought "cool, let's check out whatever pressed flowers are in here or whatever". Nope, it was tons of drawings of like Chester the cheetah, and Tony the tiger buttfucking each other in the most graphic, explicit way you could possibly imagine. Not terrible drawings either. I had a nice chat with her and she was a lovely person. Couldn't have been happier for me to stop by. Furries are just people like anyone else. They alright. You probably do some weird shit too.

If you check attendance by country, you'll see that there's already 50 people going to Germany this year. And Italy is one of the more secluded communities in general, they don't tend to venture too far outside of Italian places from what I've experienced both in the fandom and in other communities. I've lived a while in Italy a few years back, so I involved myself a bit there, though I've not been active in Italian places for a while now.

Plus this from GAF's Bayonetta 3 announcement thread:
Feels good man. I'd rather have this than the constant mental gymnastics they pulled if you look to the other site's thread about this. Seriously, it made me cringe.
Makes me think he's not particularly fond of ResetEra.

What, exactly, is involved in this play? :P

I am a fan of moshing though so if this is a thing at fur conventions, kudos to all of you lol.

Tbh it’s exactly what you make of it. It’s a part of bdsm play typically but doesn’t really have to involve degradation or anything humiliating like that. It’s more of a headspace thing. It honestly doesn’t even have to be nsfw half the time (I’m a pup on that spectrum coincidentally). I would google the Oh Joy Sex Toy comic on the topic (a webcomic series that is highly educational on different fetishes and kinks).

As for moshes. Well that’s the term for when a bunch of pups get on a set a mats and kind of just act like pups, relax, play with balls, etc. It’s a sort of intimate space (or can be) without any sex.

I think they are nuts, but harmless. Are there any psychological studies regarding this?
Is being a furry considered a mental health issue?

On this: absolutely yes and of course. I have many kinks and participate myself in parties that might be considered extreme from a sexual perspective.
The main difference is that it's private, only select people outside my SO know about it, and I don't parade about it publicly.
That's why I think many people, including myself, find furries a little weird, and that's why I think the main attraction on the subject from them it's a way to 1) drastically differentiate themselves from the norm to get noticed, 2) make easier for people like them to recognize them.
Which is not a wrong or a bad thing of course, it's basic human nature really, but the extreme extent it goes to sometimes results in off-putting behaviour and the opposite wanted result.
I'm no psychologist to be clear, but the events that bring people to become a furry have always extremely fascinated me.
I would like to know from the people here who are furries, were you always attracted by humanized animals before, when you were younger? Is it just for fun, or is a person dressed as a furry sexually more attractive than someone who isn't?

The thing is, to the vast majority of furries, the sexual part is only a part at most. For all furries, it's enjoyment out of anthropomorphic characters that makes them furries. Yes, there's sexual aspects, just like with any other subculture (you wouldn't believe the amount of sexual fan fiction between Captain Kirk and Spock that exists...), but they're not the main one.
Furries who are openly using furry avatars or the likes usually also are using simply art of their character, or some cute anthropomorphic character they're a fan of, or what have you. Yes, there's people who use fetishized stuff, but... I've also seen fetish avatars from non-furry people. Like, I remember a game forum that had a user who was realllllly into the blueberries from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, kept using avatars of them, and would bring up blueberries at basically any opportunity.
And that's not even delving into the depths of anime fans with their waifus.

The drawn art can be absolutely amazing but the fursuits are too ridiculous to take seriously...

The ones who do it for sexual reasons I understand. I don't share the fetish, but I'd never kink shame. People who do it just to socialize are sort of goofy, and should consider more productive hobbies. To each their own, however.
Yeah, shame on me for wanting to meet cool people and draw stuff that makes me happy. I should only be here for the sex.

Puppy play is merely a subset of BDSM stuff. It takes the D part of it to the level that the submissive part wants to be treated by the dominant one like a dog. That he's undeserving of being treated like a human. At least that's how far as I know.

Ah, thanks guys. That helps make sense of it for me. Honestly, I really never had a clue about this subset of BDSM culture so your responses have been pretty enlightening.

I'll check that webcomic out when I get home. If I clear my friend's web history, he'll start asking too many questions and assume I was naughty lol.

Oh. That seems like a much friendlier and relaxing mosh than I'm used to. :)

Kink shaming isn't cool
I wasn't kink shaming. As I said, I am completely ignorant about it. Sorry if you inferred that was what I was doing.

Bruh, go to your local leather bar on pup night, they're the sweetest people you'll ever meet.
How do I find this? Search pup nights at bars in San Diego on google... also seems like this is probably a thing that requires being a wingman for a 1st time.

Furries creep me out. It doesn't help that the artwork is so terrible and generic.

If they were just people dressing like animals that looked more like animals, it would probably seem a lot more normal to me, but instead most have this generic hypereffeminate look to them.

That's funny coming from someone literally named after a game in which you play as a wolf-man.

And I mean, not everything is effeminate.

I think my grandfather would be rolling over in his grave knowing he got grenade shrapnel in his ass during Iwo Jima so the beneficiaries of his sacrifice can dress & act like zoo animals seventy years later.

I don't even know where to begin with this.

I can't believe this is your first post.

Cosplay is cosplay, however, I do feel this particular type is looked down upon more often than the others.

I don't see how this is all that different as the hardcore cosplayers with games, anime, and others are just as "dedicated".

This is a joke based on the meme right?

As for me: I don’t really think anything of it one way or the other. Not for me but doesn’t seem much different than people dressing up in many other costumes.

Let people get their jollies the way they want. They aren't hurting anybody.

Also, maybe I'm crazy but it feels like furries are ridiculed slightly less recently than they were, say, 5 years ago.

Most major cities have their own pup group. While the even calendar isn't accurate (neither is my local one), I'd be surprised it there isn't at least 1-2 events a month by that group specifically focused on pup play. San Diego seems like a major area for kink groups.

Not going to lie, a lot of people are coming off as incredibly insecure right now. I mean, if you're not into it, you're not into it, no big deal. But when you're making this big show saying "oh god I'd never associate with these people, because I'm a normal person who only likes normal things! Can't you see what a normal, well-adjusted person I am?" Just... geez, you don't have to try and compensate for anything. Damn. Furries are people, just like any other member of any fandom. You could find just as many anime fans, comic fans, Steven Universe fans, MCU fans, whatever, that are probably just as creepy, if not more so, than the worst furry. That's just the nature of any fandom frequently populated by people who use the internet a lot. Some are gonna be chill dudes who contribute cool stuff like art and such. Some are going to be creeps. They're people in general, and you really shouldn't be generalizing people.

Just gonna throw that I get the feeling if you made this thread, but changed the OP from "furries" to "anime fans", this thread wouldn't make it past one page. Just sayin'.

You'd be surprised. I know it's kinda taboo to talk about this. But there was a thread on the old site titled 'What is the deal with awful people online and anime avatars?' which got like 16 pages before it got locked up. Quite a huge number of members here were originally coming from there.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

To be quite honest, I'm puzzled at the amount of comments along the lines of "as long as they're not hurting anyone". As if furries are known for hurting people or something. People are just weirdly defensive about this.
