Anyone watching the debate tonight? I know it's just a circus of bullshit but they're at least usually a small window into the dynamics of the race at any given point.
I thought they might at least wait until the herd thinned out a bit.Being so constantly validated in my Political Prognostications is tiring (look out, Nate Silver), but I do take a small joy in not having been one of the people who desperately denied the reality that the Squad would be endorsing Sanders
And how do you feel if Bernie does get the nom ?Hey as long as they help in the general go for who you really support!
A more left democratic party the better.
Fine.
As long as you don't endorse Biden we good fam. There is no aisle. It's a ring, and I'm winning the title!

Because she went swinging.Curious why Klobuchar is getting so much media coverage for someone polling in the toilet. Easily the 2nd worst candidate in this whole thing after that sniveling worm Pete Buttigieg.

To be fair, we only need 5 up there. The rest need to go.
Fine.
He aligns with most of my political beliefs. I just don't want our party breaking apart and eating each other because Bernie/Warren have a difference of policy on like 10% of the things.
On either side of the aisle.
My 10% point was more that she and Sanders both agree the rich have too much power and need to be culled. They have a lot more in common than Bernie/Warren and Biden/Butti.To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that it's coming this soon. I'm not surprised about the circumstances though. It was always going to happen, and it was always going to be timed advantageously to boost him.
I don't think the party is in danger of ripping itself apart in terms of these two, but dismissing each of their theories of change as a "10% difference" is kinda missing the point. Sanders brings a people's movement and is forwardly antagonistic toward the plutocratic capitalist class (in addition to going further on individual issues number-for-number). Warren makes great efforts to remind everyone that she's not going to rock the boat too much to the point that she's contacting capitalists directly to assuage their fears about her (in addition to proudly wearing the badge of capitalism and joining in applauding Trump's ridiculous line about socialism).
Warren is an ally, and a really good senator. She's someone who gets my vote in the general. But she's not Sanders, and the difference is much more than "10%."
She went in swinging....or she went swinging?
All I can say is staplers were involved.

But yes she is a Soc Dem at best. And for me that's ok.
I get it. Which is why I have no problem with you guys/The Squad backing Bernie right now. Go with who you believe in! I have no quelms if Bernie wins.Just because people keep saying they're similar doesn't -really- mean they are.
Illusory truth effect goes full force in these conversations. We ought to know better.
EDIT: I'm sorry if it seems like I'm picking on you! It's really the opposite, I like you! ;3
I like to think of her as "Good enough to get us through her two successive terms. MAYBE not good enough to get us through global warming-- but if she's the nom and she loses, we are FUCKED." I think ultimately climate catastrophe is... well, making the divisions here worse. A lot of us take it as an article of faith that socialism is kind of the next step to... not getting rolled by Earth's death, so it inflates the stakes.I get it. Which is why I have no problem with you guys/The Squad backing Bernie right now. Go with who you believe in! I have no quelms if Bernie wins.
Just don't fall down the hole of "She's Hillary/Regan 2.0". I say it because it needs to be repeated. No one is gonna confuse Sanders with anything other than Sanders. I've already seen some suggest she's just another neoliberal shill which...lol. She made the CFPB!
That's a big club my friend.I like to think of her as "Good enough to get us through her two successive terms. But a unified front against Trump is essential for preventing planetary death anyway. I'm down to vote for her as well. The only one I'd feel bad about voting for is Biden, and that's because at that point I'm pretty sure we'd have an obligation to instituting some kind of radical program. Luckily it looks like that won't come to pass.
Socialists.TheHunter "You guys".
WHOMST are you referring to as if we're different somehow? Explain yourself ( •̀ω•́ )σ
Real talk.Half of those posts in that thread are lowkey waiting for Bernie to suffer another heart attack. It's disgusting.
ERA - For social justice but against how you create social justice.
I feel like a lot of people would think everything was fine if there was just as much destitution and human suffering as today but it was more evenly divided between various groups(except you know class...).
I often think of Sheryl Sandberg and the whole lean in phenomenon and eventual backlash. It's the perfect example of people thinking "Great a woman is in charge, this is equality" and then eventually realising that It doesn't actually change anything if it's a heel on your neck instead of a boot.Liberalism is the deep-seated belief that human suffering and class stratification under capitalism is an acceptable evil if enough of the right demographics are in charge and put on a progressive face. Thousands of dead brown civilians halfway across the world bombed by drones don't count if the guy signing off on the drone strikes is a black Democrat.
The China discussion lately I think has made liberals confront an uncomfortable truth: the first world lifestyle only exists because of exploitation of labor (and colonization but that's largely unrelated to China from a western standpoint). Our cheap products are cheap because of glorified slave labor, and because of this China has accumulated massive capital and growth that allows it to be a world superpower. We've always kind of laughed it off with "haha we live in a society where people who make iPhones kill themselves" but I think only now are we confronting what I dub the endgame of capitalism.
Of course, instead of having real internal dialogue about the destructive nature of capitalism and how it has created a society that values unsustainable growth over freedom and safety, because that would be a terrifying thing to confront after being in denial your whole life, we're witnessing in real time a return to form of Cold War rhetoric and McCarthyism, don't trust your neighbor, deport Chinese expats, assume all depictions of Chinese culture in media is propaganda, etc. As a Jewish person in the diaspora who often feels put "to the test" on Israel, it's not a great thing to watch unfold.
We need automation yesterday - although if the bourgeois have complete control over it, like Stephen Hawking predicted, it's going to be less "we don't need to exploit the working class anymore" and more "we don't need the working class anymore, it's not our problem if they starve and die."
To be fair to the Americans, they haven't gone through Thatcher and now May to dispel the notion.I often think of Sheryl Sandberg and the whole lean in phenomenon and eventual backlash. Very, very true. I think we still haven't dispelled it entirely here either, I remember there being repeated digs at labour because all the leaders were women apart from Corbyn. To be fair to the Americans, they haven't gone through Thatcher and now May to dispel the notion.
"I could talk about the destruction the Republican Party has wrought. Children in cages. The stripping of LGBT rights. Trump's Treason. Mass shootings. The rationing of insulin.
I could, but it's those darn Bernie Bros! They're rabid and lost us the 2016 elections!"
The "Bernie Bros" in question:

Good God no. It'll be like Disney monopoly threads on cocaine.
Anyone want to try to tackle this thread?
Now we know who's really responsible for Bernie's recovery.
I swung the bat a few times. But it's very obvious that people either have no ability to think of an industry outside of Capitalism, or have their understanding of Socialism tinted by cold war propaganda.

There are people downplaying what Bernie has down throughout the years too. It's mad irritating reading these posts.AOC is a "leftist waifu" now, apparently.
This forum can be aggravating sometimes. AOC has been such a force for good and people still downplay her as if she's nothing.
A la nena me la dejan quieta o vamos a tener un problema, puñeta! 🇵🇷
