Marx did say we would need capitalism to transition to communism, but man they're really dragging this capitalism part out.
Marx didn't count on governments desperately propping up Capitalism with Neo-Liberalism. But even that will fail eventually.

The basis of socialism is just the idea that people should be able to work together as a community to help each other out. The goal is a stateless, classless society of equals and the entire movement has, from well before Marx up until now, been the study and practice of getting us there.
Marx's Capital is a good start if you don't mind lots and lots of pages of reading. The Manifesto might be a little bit easier on the eyes otherwise. If you want less pages of reading from a more anarchist perspective, the works of Peter Kropotkin are a different, but better start-- specifically, the Conquest of Bread. From there, you could go into the works of Murray Bookchin-- he's the one that I believe in the most as a shot for a complete society.

Matt and Virgil could launch a splinter podcast and lose a good deal of the Chapo baggage (most of which I think is totally manufactured and silly, other than some of the Amber stuff). Matt's solo history podcasts and appearances on The Antifada are especially rad.

I thought it was OK until the wage and exploitation question, then it became an overt hunt for the gotcha moment. I think it is good that they press him on gun issue and it is also good that they press him. Also glad to know he is not an Amazon Prime member...
edit: somehow managed to read the Steyer interview they did as well - the format is similar, it is a very uniteresting interview so scroll to the end when the NYT folks get mighty angry at the end when Steyer calls NYT a fancy newspaper for fancy people, lol.

There was a documentary about this a made a few years ago, but I don't think it's available online unfortunately. What's worth stressing about the whole thing imo, beyond Menzies' sympathising to fascism, was the role of basically what is now known as "sovereign risk" in some arguments against the strike. Australia couldn't withhold the shipment because it would be breaking a contract, and that's a violation of how markets should work.
