If the EGS exclusive deals are what it takes for indie developers to flourish on all platforms (eventually), I'm all for it.

That's not what it takes. Every developer that Epic has been moneyhatting so far was already very successful with previous games.

This is just Epic crippling their existing competitors by moneyhatting the most popular games. Indies who need extra support the most won't get anything from Epic.

Indie developers should sell their games to as many people as possible. That is what they did with HLD. That worked out fine. What they are doing when they agree to exclusivity (on the EGS) is the exact opposite of that. They are withholding their game from a major part of their audience. They just take the presumably fat paycheck upfront and accept that their game is only enjoyed by a margin of the audience that it could have when it would be on all major platforms. Nothing flourishes through EGS exclusive deals. It's the opposite.

Not gonna lie, it's easier to just write the check and let them do their thing vs buy em up and try to have a full dev pipeline and all that jazz

Tencent kinda does it that way too (heavily invest but let them still rock independently)
When I mean in house I don't mean just full hands on, I mean it in the first way as well. As long as they are there since the beginning and actually funding it then honestly it's not a big deal. For example this game was just announced so if Epic is helping fund dev on it then it's not a big issue.

Looks really cool, and I was happy to have backed Hyper Light Drifter. Hopefully I can get it on PS4/5 at some point.

I feel a bit disgusted by having backed HLD on Kickstarter originally. I don't support indies for them to run and do anti-consumer shit like this at the first hint of success.

Crowdfunding is dead to me now and I've been quite active doing that over the years. Thanks EGS.

Midway through HLD, I was not expecting to like it as much as I did by the time I beat it. This looks great. Hoping for a console release because this move to 3D probably means my crappy laptop can't run it.

Solar Ash Kingdom?

More like Solar ASS Kingdom, am I right, fellas?

Seriously, though, this game looks super cool.

Epic's literally trying to starve every other PC service from games at this point.

Epic's not trying to compete. They're trying to put everyone out of business.

Not a fan of the 3D after the lovely 2D world of HLD but the world has that distinct Heart Machine neon-colored look&feel. Probably another great game in the making, but I can wait till they release it on Switch or Steam to play it.

God damn this looks great. Will play the second it's available on something I can actually play it on (i.e. console). I wish I could install Epic Game Store on PS4!

I hope the devs get a large cut of the Epic check. They don't deserve the shit they're going to get because their publisher agreed to exclusivity.
I wonder how much shit devs actually get for this at this point, outside of hives like this. It's starting to become pretty common so it would be interesting to know if the 23rd** game to announce they're exclusive to EGS is really getting a ton of shit about it. They're not the pioneers of this now.

**i don't know how many games have done this at this point, might even be more than my guess, lol.

Oh wow, big announcement. Day one purchase for me, loved Hyper Light Drifter and this has now rocketed to the top of my most desired list.

There's no way Heart Machine is getting a bunch of shit for this. Some, but not a bunch.

It's not like they announced Solar Ash Kingdom earlier and put up pages on Steam and GOG for it and then reneged on that.

This is rough for me because I bought HLD directly from them and was given a key that redeemed on Steam. So, they got all of my money and Valve got none on the transaction.

Now, that option is off the table. Bleh.

I recall at the time of making HLD that one of the main creators was having major heart issues. Glad to see he's well enough to continue making games and this is a day one if it ever comes to a console I own.

At least the announcement was from the start EGS. Still a shit move but it was not sitting on the Steam pages for a bit then the announcement comes. HLD did really well I am curious as to why the need to keep it on a single storefront.

Yeah graphics reminded me of other stuff, mainly Hob and Furi? I haven't played those though so it should still feel kinda new. Those Disasterpeace tunes though.. already sold me.

Looks interesting, I've been meaning to buy HLD for a while now. Maybe by the time I get it and finish it it'll be on Steam.

Got a lot of friends on this team; I think it looks great.

I understand the frustration regarding EGS, but it's probably only a timed exclusive and I'd be surprised if consoles weren't in the mix. You guys'll get to play it.

Hey team, if you're reading, looking forward to it ;)

Nah I'm good. I'm not supporting any games involved in these shitty exclusivity deals. I don't want moneyhatting promising games to become the norm on pc, so I won't support this with my money.

Pretty sure the devs don't care tho, since they probably got more money from Epic than I'm able to spend on games in my entire life.

Yeah, passionate developers definitely don't care if people play their games as long as they get money.

You're free to do whatever you want with your money, but please don't make assumptions about the supposed motivations of people you don't know.

I really liked HLD, but that trailer doesn't do it for me, kinda tired of this look that was never appealing to me in the first place. Wish it was HLD2 instead. Oh well.
