Midgar, With Love
"Pretty solid" is not good enough. This film needed a breakthrough performance -- something like Robert Downey in Iron Man or Chris Pratt in GotG.

If people come away from the movie saying "Yeah I guess that guy who played Han Solo was okay" then that's really not going to move the needle.

Fair, yeah.

Does anyone know if the Netflix deal ends on 12/31? Or does it continue in to 2019? This looks like it would hit Netflix in time for a couple weeks at the minimum.

Heard the 3D in this was terrible, so will wait for reviews on that, but in for 4K. i thought it was a fun movie and Aiden(or whatever) did a much better job than everyone was fearing, too bad we'll never see where it all leads with Darth Maul and the like.

And I liked Rogue One a lot, but Solo is a much funner movie for sure.

I didn't watch Solo, but I know it's not as shitty as tlj. I'll give it a shot that BluRay. Also, Rogue One is absolutely best Disney Wars film. I was very surprised at damn theater.

Lucasfilm's approach to this film is just bland, there is just not a lot for general audiences to latch on to.

Most of the humor doesn't work, the dramatic moments don't really work because the character relationships are barely setup. It's like someone made a checklist for what should be in a Han Solo movie and just filmed that.

I'd argue Wicket is more changed by the events of RotJ than Han Solo is by the events in this film.

It was pretty good, and unlike RO, I may rewatch it sometime. But like RO, I have no desire to own it.

But it's your story though *shrug*

Anyway a lot of people are going to have fun with this movie at home. For some reason Disney and/or the movie industry crammed theatrical releases earlier into the calendar this year. The movies coming out in August look like the fall movie season is starting super-early, and by mid-September when the weather change begins to pick up people will be in the mood for this one.

I really liked this movie. I'm surprised it performed the way it did as it's the best of the post-VII movies besides Rogue One. I actually enjoyed this way more than what Infinity War and the other summer blockbusters had to offer.

Ends at the end of 2018.

Once the streaming service launches next year I doubt you'll ever see new release Disney films on free tv again.

Join Director Ron Howard, Writers Jon and Lawrence Kasdan, and actors Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in a roundtable discussion on one of the most hotly-debated aspects of Solo: A Star Wars StoryTM. This one will assuredly "blow your motivator"!

Have you actually seen the movie?
I have yes. Things that didn't need to be explained or shown in the canon that were in the movie
  • How Han and Chewie met
  • Why he calls him Chewie
  • Why his last name is Solo
  • What the Kessel Run is and correcting the distance/time error
  • How he met Lando
  • How he got the Falcon
  • How he got his blaster pistol
I'm sure I'm forgetting more. I cringed so hard at all this, it was awful.

They took the concept behind the opening to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (explaining all the traits of the character through an adventure he went on while he was younger) and stretched it out to a 2 hour movie.

As a Starwars fan, I can't muster the energy to watch this. But I may when it's on one of my digital streaming services.

Cover is pretty good too! Not just the standard stacked floating heads.

Probably won't be picking this up. I never got Rogue One and I enjoyed that one more.

Really shouldn't be surprising it performed the way it did. Selling a Han Solo movie without Ford was always going to an uphill battle unless they had an inspiring bit of casting for the lead. Alden was fine in the role, but nothing to make the average audience member go Wow. Glover was an inspired choice for Lando, but he wasn't the man character.

Not gonna lie excited to watch it again. I don't think it's a great movie, but I love the outlaws western vibe

Rogue One had an interesting and heretofore untold back story behind one of the OT's major events.

Solo is basically "Hey guys, we filmed all that stuff you already heard about! And we explained the mystery of why Chewbacca is called 'Chewie'!"
Don't forget the mystery of how Han got his last name or the story of his blaster.

I liked Solo but you could throw all the same criticisms people had for Rogue One at Solo; I don't remember any of the characters names, most of the main characters didn't have an arc, it's inconsequential to the broader saga stories as a side story, being a prequel means we know many supporting characters would die anyways and we know the characters in the OT of course will be alive so there is no surprise where they end up, the lead was weak, unexplained and unnecessary to the plot cameo by a character from another film, distracting connections to other films and characters, etc. etc.

Solo was about as "Star Warsy" as you could get out a Star Wars movie, it's a shame that this movie didn't do well at the BO.

This was actually the first of the Disney era Star Wars movies I didn't see more than once only because I was so busy and because living in a small town with the lack of success for the movie it was gone pretty quick.

I guess the good news is that Disney no longer bothers with 3D releases?

Only in the states unfortunately, 3D still a thing overseas for now. I just got black panther from AmazonUK and it's one of the best 3D discs out there. Sucks to jump through hoops, but that's why I'm a pickier with 3D releases now.

Surprised some people here liked it. Movie was dull, its lead completely unbelievable -- I never once was able to trick myself into thinking that was Han (or Lando, even though Donald Glover was certainly closer to the mark than Aiden Aldrich was), and never justified its existence.

One day, in the distant future, I hope we get an extensive behind the scenes look at the movie's troubled production history, ala Alien 3, but probably not for many, many years.

Maybe if Charles De Lauzarika is still around, they can hire him to put it together.

It's only a matter of time until some in-depth article drops, it might take a decade, but it's too crazy of a situation for somebody not to eventually talk about.
