Not sure if new info but noticed this after the update on the Nintendo (NCL) recruitment page. Stats for Japan only-

No of Employees - 2,271
Avg age - 38.6
Avg length of employment - 13.5 yrs
Avg work day - 7hrs, 45mins
Avg annual salary - $80,000

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/jobs/recruit/requirements/index.html

Also Mario is running for president in 2020. Forgot that part.

That's some retention, though to be expected for Japan. Salary is solid though not really competitive with similar American tech firms. Wonder how NOA compares...

Considering the high turnover on game studios around the around, this is very impressive.

Is there a list of other companies statistics so we can compare them? I know this looks to be better than many studios but I would like to see a comparison.

I dunno why I just imagined being an employee in the company, and slacking off by playing my Switch mid-shift. Something about playing a Switch at Nintendo is real funny

Those are some really nice numbers there. Nintendo must be a dream to work for if retention is that high. They apparently don't even do crunch, either.

Nintendo showing the industry how its done. You dont have to be heartless and greedy to be successful in a capitalist market.

Under 2500 employees is tiny. Nintendo runs a very tight and efficient ship and that's good for profit. But it's also clear why when people say stuff like the Wii U's OS was poor ... no shit, they don't have a giant staff with OS building experience.

I'd be more curious to know the median than the average.

There is a lot of room for skew when it comes to things like salary and work hours.

It's really hard to find some of them as they are usually only for holding companies so average age and salary is very high. The only numbers I thought looked accurate were for Capcom:

Average salary: 5.62 million yen (50k USD)
Average age: 36.6
Average length of employment: 9.8 years
Number of employees: 2,426

Source

Note that the average salary in Osaka (where the HQ is) is 5.23 million yen and median is 4.8 million yen.

honest question: do they work Monday to Friday? I always thought Nintendo was hard on crunch, so it's surprisig to see the 7.5 hours/day thing.

Nintendo really does seem like the oddball when it comes to going against Japanese business culture. Below average workdays and high pay.

Japanese companies tend to have these stats posted, with more facts, during the hiring season to attract fresh collage grads. Nintendo seems to always be looking for good translators though if you got those skills. Seems like their bar however is pretty dang high.

But lol if ya'll think a Japanese company actually has these hours. They might say it on paper, but I don't think Nintendo is the magic exception to Japan's insane work hours (though it might be on the better end). Its not a big secret that over time and unreported working time are big issues.

Pretty skeptical on those workday hours based on secondhand information, but it would be nice if it were true.

About the hours, isn't one of the issues with work culture over there that companies have normal length workdays officially, and all the crazy unhealthy hours people work in practice is more due to social norms than actual policy and aren't normally reported by employees?

Honestly though. Under 8hrsa day on average seems incredible especially for a software company.
Erm, pretty sure this is normal* for all over the world, outside of the US maybe.

Also note that these are probably contract hours, doesn't say anything about how long they're really working. Your contract ends at five, but if senpai works to 10, you're shit outta luck.

*average is actually pretty high if you factor in part time, which Nintendo will have little of.

That's what I'd heard. I'm surprised people are taking the hours worked figure being reported at face value. Do people think Nintendo don't crunch?
