This is one of Microsoft's biggest wildcards. They have a lot of talented developers who are seemingly making the jump from AA to AAA development. It'll be interesting to see how they stick the landing.

I hate steampunk aesthetics and themes, they give me anxiety, it's the only "punk" that makes me feel that way. Dieselpunk and cyberpunk are fine.

This would be SWEET! Hoping this turns out to be something cool. We also know from recent job postings that the game is a first person AAA RPG with melee combat options.

Steampunk bugs me because it feels like it doesn't have the actual punk feel of cyberpunk and instead glorifies industrialization and imperialism, rather than criticizing them.

That said, I'm down for seeing what inXile has to offer with it.

Was bio shock infinite steampunk? I think their commentary on the feudal capitalism in the cloud city wasn't positive

I saw those images and dishonored came to my mind.

I know It doesn't have nothing to do with dishonored, but It made me realize how nice It would be an isometric RPG made by Inxile in the dishonored universe, with all the gadgets, weapons and powers.

Could Dishonored be considered as Steampunk? If so I think they did a great job pulling off the punk feel

I have a hard time seeing a Steampunk game acheive mass appeal, but I suppose it's not a genre that's ever been given a fair shot. If it's a passion project for them and they have the support to make it high quality it should stand out from the competition at least

Didn't know about their new office, good for them. Having a high quality, modern and spacious working space changes everything. It's a huge game changer in the creative and technical field of video game development

Even if thats the case here, brian fargo is an industry legend who has always been limited by the budget/potential sales problems that influence every developer, so im sure he wants to be able to make whatever the hell he wants now that he has the full backing of microsoft behind him and as much budget/time as he needs.

After Wasteland 3, they can go for a game in the Putt Putt universe and I'll be there day 1. These images look great. It's not going to be an easy wait.

God I hope you're right OP. Between Fallout/The Outer World's/Wasteland, and Elder Scrolls/Fable/Avowed, I was a bit concerned we were only going to be seeing varying shades of post-apocalyptic and medievil high fantasy from MS RPG wheelhouse. Steampunk is such an untapped genre, especially in the AAA space.

Where ever Fargo goes, I go. He's a legend. Interesting theme - but seems pretty greenfield if they really want to push the idea.

Can't wait. Nice digs too, shame a out COVID though.

After Wasteland 3 I can't wait to see whatever comes next, this will be amazing, plus, Steampunk is a great theme to go after within Xbox Games, since post apocalypse is already covered by Fallout and Wasteland, Fantasy by Elder Scrolls and Avowed and futuristic by Outer Worlds and Starfield.
Also I did listen to a ton of interviews with Fargo just recently and it definitely seems like he's very happy to just be focusing on games, whereas before he had to focus a lot more on getting inXile their next paycheck, hopefully he stays around a lot more

But Eora (PoE/avowed) isn't a high fantasy setting, it's like the age of discovery (with magic). Pillars 2 was about pirates!

Personally, Steampunk is not a aesthetic that enthusiasm me. But I suppose it depends on the implementation.

PoE should definitely be considered high fantasy. Own world, own gods, heavy use of magic, variety of races,...

Apparently this game has the biggest budget of any RPG currently under development by Xbox and we know they're using Unreal 5 too.

Very exciting. A developer with real pedigree too.
