I never realized how horrid it really is. I don't watch it. It's on full volume in a place I can't avoid right now. The stuff they're spewing is insane. Calling Democrats "the party of infanticide". Saying "People have a choice between Comunism and Freedom.".

Is there a phone app to shut a TV off??!

UPDATE: Got fed up, walked over and changed channel.

I'm guessing this is playing at someone else's property... in which case you don't exactly have the right to their television unless you wanna start something with them. Your best bet is to figure out how to leave or bust out the headphones.

Don't pay you're power bill
One of these isn't an option. The other makes no sense.

It's a business...one I don't think I'll be doing future work/business with.

Only if your phone has an IR blaster.
Not 100% accurate.

OP Many smart TVs will have an app you can download and use your phone as a remote, it will connect via wifi however so you would probably need to original TV remote for initial setup. You might be lucky and whoever set up the TV allows devices to connect automatically however (this can be done on my Samsung).

Have you tried ignoring it and putting in earphones?

Never leave the house without earphones.

Someone often turns one of the breakroom TV's to it at work. It's self parody at this point, full stop. It's literally like a non-stop SNL skit about Fox News now.

Personally, I think it's dangerous. Especially so many people in this country are, frankly, almost inhumanely stupid and yet vote religiously.

My local gym always has a big screen playing fox right next to the refreshment center and I change that channel every chance I get. I figure it's a public TV and I'm a customer, might as well make me happy, right?

I once made a Buffalo Wild Wings change the channel from Fox News. There was some 14 year old kid in a suit talking smack about Democrats on the Glenn Beck show.

Tried this, didn't work :(.

Tried scanning with LG app. Tried through their WiFi too 😂🤔

Edit: I’ve been there, OP. Just get a few chuckles from it and tune it out the best you can. You’re not winning this battle.

It is funny how once you've been away from Fox for a while, coming back to it feels like you're watching one of those neo-fascist spoofs or something from South Park. It really is comical when viewed through a lens devoid of fear/paranoia. They've mastered the art of exploiting fear and human nature to get people tuned into the only "trustworthy" news source who will tell them exactly what they want to hear.

Change the channel. I do it all the time in waiting areas. You might get that one guy who gives you the old "I was watching that." You have a variety of options at that point.

"Not anymore you're not."
"It's all Obama's fault."
"It's Hilary's fault."
"Benghazi"
"Well now we're watching Teen Titan's Go"
"Sorry about that." (then don't change it back)
"You can't always get what you want." (Sing it for full effect)

or just say "oh, sorry!" but don't change it back

I am yet to understand why reasonable thinking Americans don't boycott all Fox related products. You'll see someone on this board and elsewhere decrying the absolute cultural and political toxicity of Fox News (rightfully so) and yet chatting it up in another thread about some Fox entertainment product. I have actively given up all participation in any property they own - for me this means a lot of sports I'd like to watch but oh well.

well it helps that most Fox properties are owned by Disney now. A slightly less evil company :)

So it's a TV on a break area at some office.

I have never been to a break area with TV anywhere where one can't change the channel (if others are not watching, common courtesy). That seems to be what the OP did, so this thread has run its short course.

Yeah my decision was changing it was going to have to happen. I don't like confrontation or causing problems, but then I have to remind myself I'm not some little dude, lol. Couple old guys and the people behind the counter just kind of stared at me for a minute, haha. Turned it till I got to ESPN.
Well the above is not 100% accurate then. Changing the channel without asking when other people are watching is kind of a dick move. I bet if you were polite and asked then people would be okay. ESPN/Sports is usually a safe choice along with random movie channels like TNT and Freeform.

At work I'm forced by the owner of our company to put Fox News on every TV. I had CNN going in my lab and one of the directors told me it was far left propaganda.

When I lived with my in-laws they kept it on in EVERY room, even when no one was in the room?! It was horrifying. I tried my best to tone it out. Of course this was before Trump was elected, I can't imagine what its like now.

You just can't escape that bullshit. It's everywhere where I used to live. So sad that's the default news channel
