For example, in the "NARUTIMET" series, which was released mainly for the PlayStation system, Minato Namikaze's arm was "missing" in the original story, but was changed to "present" in the game. In the game, it was changed to "Yes. This is because the loss of limbs in characters that look human is prohibited by SIE, not CERO. Even if Minato Namikaze is a corpse resurrected by unholy reincarnation, if it looks human, it's out.

On the other hand, the most recent title "Dragon Ball Z KAKAROT" includes a scene where Amatsuhan's arm is cut off by Nappa. This was approved by SIE, and the reason was speculated to be "the difference in impressions between the works of Dragon Ball and Naruto" and "the changing times".

They published The Last Of Us Part II. This all seems directed at Japanese devs and it's hypocritical and controlling.

This from the company that not only released TLoU2 but also showed trailers publicly with some of the most grotesque violence ever scene in a game?

This is weird. Mutilation is something that CERO tends to have more issues. See: Resident Evil games being censored in Japan. Maybe Sony Japan is overcorrecting?

Umm, but that's not the case here:

As they mentioned, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, which was the latest game released by CC2, had amputation. So, it seems like SIE has changed their stance for some time.

Maybe for the game to have a lower parental rating?
Censoring certain things for this isn't new or mind blowing (not defending or anything).
EDIT: Btw this title rather generalizing when this is about a single developer with one game.

This is pretty bizarre of Sony Japan. Who is in what position to be in charge of these decisions?

Wait... haven't amputation stuff been a no go for a long while now in Japan? A lot of Dragon Ball games for years would never show Future Gohan losing his arm for example.

I feel like there's probably some important context missing here.

Same. Not only has Sony recently approved that kind of content in other games published on it's platforms and in Japan, but we currently only have this one instance without any other information at the moment.

If it turns out the character suffering the amputation though is underage or something like that then it might narrow things down.

Do they want some minimum rating for that game? I don't remember if dismemberments was a japan thing, Revengence got around it since everything was cyborgs in that. Maybe because it's gonna be a global release of a popular anime game they want to cover every rating in every country.

Nioh 1 and 2 specifically have no dismemberment in their Japanese releases but is there everywhere else.

was still in the japanese version though? I know JP RE2R version had some scenes censored, like 3R and 7. Dunno about the exact case of the gif though.
Resident Evil/ Biohazard games release in censored and uncensored variants (with the CERO Z). Wonder if it's due to retailers like the AO rating in the US

I was gonna say there is some context missing...but based on the examples being Anime games, thats really weird. Doesnt make alot of sense.
Issue seems to be that Sony isnt really open with what they expecting and gonna expect devs to go back to fixing based on their mood at any given time.

This is also ableist. Do they find people with missing limbs so grotesque that they cannot be depicted in video games? Like, seriously.

You can do that to every enemy in the game, sometimes strategically. So censoring limb detachment would be a lot of work.

Just skimmed the Japanese text and Google did a pretty good job on the translation, all things considered. In case anyone doesn't know NARUTIMET here refers to the Japanese title of the Ultimate Ninja (Storm) series which is called Narutimate in Japan.

Sony must have heard all those whataboutism arguments in regards to violence from all those pro-sexualization people.

I haven't played the Naruto game they are talking about but was it taken out in other counties as well? CC2 tries to stay accurate to the source when they can. The type of "zombie" Minato is in this instance is just a revived human really.
