Mauve is better but still not great, would be similar to HDDVDs. As boring as it will be, I think some for of Blue is their best bet since it ties into their branding.

I agree that they're getting schooled ATM in terms of the different trajectories to launch. From their sake I hope it isn't because they're making last minute changes to their console and their launch plans. They've already gone earlier than last time so the February 2013 comparison is largely irrelevant. I would have expected more information than by now after they themselves initiated the next gen conversation with Wired so much earlier.

That particular typeface is fanmade and inspired by the PS4 logo. It's not the actual typeface used by Sony. If the PS5 logo is derived from a inhouse typeface at Sony, I expect that typeface to have a very limited set of characters.
I highly doubt this is the official PS5 logo. This seems to be just a placeholder until the PS meeting.

I would say it's not the finalized version of the logo. It lacks, for legal reasons, the ® symbol both for the PlayStation mark and PS5. But sure, I could see more work being done on the logo, especially on the 5.
They did announce it as 'our new logo' or whatever. It was definitely announced as the main part of the CES reveal, with some oomph. I doubt it's a placeholder.

The 5's corner is a bit too sharp compared to other symbols and it clashes at first glance.

Because the series X reveal was underwhelming in information. The only concrete information we got was the look of the console, Phil drip fed some info afterwards, but as reveals go, it was more of a teaser than a reveal.

Info on the next consoles have come at such a slow drip, there's still almost nothing to discuss beyond that they exist. I really hope we get full, comprehensive reveals relatively soon.
